00:00 Hi, my name is Rae Knopik and I'm the Director of Quality Assurance and Sustainability at GREN
00:05 and I love to chat to people about how they can be more ethical and sustainable in their fashion.
00:12 And Rae, are there some fabrics that are more recyclable than others?
00:20 Yes, actually. So when we talk about recyclability, we really want single source
00:26 fabrics. So 100% cotton, 100% linen, 100% silk, even 100% polyester. It's when we start to mix
00:35 fabrics is when it becomes more difficult to recycle them.
00:38 And what would you say, just briefly, what is the way moving forward for fashion to become more
00:48 actually genuinely sustainable? We as consumers need to be consuming less. So that means on a
00:56 realistic scale, find your personal style, figure out what it is that you like to wear, and make
01:03 sure that everything in your closet fits you well, makes you feel great, and just generally showcases
01:09 who you are. That's the first step to consuming less because when you are confident in the clothes
01:14 that you already have, you don't need to go out and buy every new trend. My recommendation for
01:19 other young people and just people in general who want to reduce their clothing waste is honestly
01:25 either donate your clothes, buy less, obviously, think about your purchases, buy secondhand,
01:32 and through apps like Depop and Poshmark, you can find clothes that you really love,
01:39 often for pretty good prices as well, and clothes that will last.
