00:00 The story of the discovery of the truth and the search for the truth behind the big crime,
00:05 that's the story that will be discussed in the new program of GMA Public Affairs,
00:10 "Pinoy Crime Stories," this new true crime anthology show hosted by senior news correspondent, John Consulta.
00:19 And now, here's the person we will consult.
00:23 Here's the main suspect in this program.
00:26 Good morning, John. Welcome to Unang Hirit.
00:29 Yes, good morning, Igan.
00:31 Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be here in Unang Hirit.
00:36 You know, this is an exclusive interview.
00:39 John is very exclusive.
00:42 Congrats to the new program.
00:46 What was your reaction when you were there, in front of the camera, and you were about to prepare?
00:52 We were really mixed emotions, Igan.
00:54 We were excited and nervous, but we thought that God is there to give us strength.
01:02 Philippians 4.13 says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
01:06 And there was also the support of our award-winning team of GMA Public Affairs,
01:12 led by Sir Johnson Tam and Ian Simbulan,
01:15 who supported and dedicated 10 Pinoy Crime Stories from our cameramen,
01:22 our researchers, and SPs.
01:24 They provided world-class support for this show.
01:28 Let's go ahead and talk about the Pinoy Crime Stories.
01:31 What will we see, John?
01:34 Here, Igan, we can see the stories that are being talked about and the headlines of our news.
01:43 The problem here is that when the news is released,
01:46 the maximum is only 2 to 3 minutes, right?
01:48 But in Pinoy Crime Stories, we will be able to digest everything in 20 to 30 minutes.
01:53 All the details.
01:54 How did the crime happen?
01:56 How was this solved?
01:58 And most of all, I think the heart of Pinoy Crime Stories is how to give or arm the information of the Filipinos
02:06 to avoid becoming a victim of this kind of crime.
02:10 There you go.
02:11 John, you've been a reporter for 15 years.
02:13 You're usually assigned to the Crime Stories.
02:15 I know that.
02:16 You're usually assigned to the operations.
02:19 Tell us, how do these operations happen?
02:23 When you're assigned, of course, you're assigned.
02:26 But John is standing.
02:28 John?
02:30 You're right, Susan.
02:31 Actually, this is a full circle for me.
02:34 Because I was here in the first news, as a crime reporter.
02:39 Igan and I were really in the middle of it.
02:41 I was called to the report.
02:44 We were trying to do everything to expose all the angles.
02:48 But what we saw, our observation for the past 15 years, the theme has changed.
02:52 It's the look of the crime.
02:54 There are people who are using high-tech devices.
02:56 Scammers?
02:58 The NBI itself, we personally learned that, their attempts to conceal the identity of scammers.
03:06 That's why our investigators need to be more vigilant.
03:11 And use technology to fight these criminals.
03:13 As you said, Igan, there are criminals who are advanced.
03:17 So, we need our authorities to be advanced.
03:20 They should be more advanced.
03:22 So, what was the crime story that struck you?
03:25 Igan, in 2007, we went to Catanduanes.
03:29 Originally, our coverage should have been about a storm.
03:34 But the storm swept through and eventually dissipated.
03:40 We thought that the coverage was wasted and we would be done with it.
03:44 But, Igan, there was a case where someone approached our EMG van,
03:49 knocked on the door, and asked for help.
03:51 They asked if they could help their neighbor.
03:54 So, I thought, what's the problem?
03:57 It's okay if it's just another person.
04:00 But for some reason, I went down to the Capitol of Catanduanes and I met Bonita Baran.
04:06 Bonita Baran is the housekeeper who lives in Kansas City.
04:09 She was very well-respected.
04:11 Not only because of her bare skin, but also her face.
04:14 She looks like Elvira.
04:16 The most impressive thing about her, Igan, in Catanduanes,
04:19 is that she had a face that was painted.
04:21 Her eyes were blurred.
04:24 So, what happened here, Igan, is why she became memorable,
04:27 because this happened in the Senate hearing.
04:31 The suspects were imprisoned, her bosses.
04:35 The case reached the Supreme Court and was upheld.
04:38 And what's even better here is that,
04:40 during the time she was invited to Congress and the Senate,
04:44 during those times, the housekeeper was married to Bill.
04:48 Same year that she was passed and became the housekeeper.
04:53 So, the stories that we're covering,
04:56 eventually, they go back to things that we didn't expect to see.
05:00 Who would have thought that this coverage would go back to a crime reporting
05:05 that would eventually become a big issue in the country.
05:08 And the case of the housekeeper's rape is being repeated.
05:12 Tomorrow, Igan, is the pilot episode.
05:15 What cases should our fans look forward to in the Pinoy Crime Stories?
05:19 Yes, Igan, Susan, an 85-year-old woman,
05:24 the grandmother who was raped in her own house.
05:28 The twist here, Igan, is that in the investigation,
05:31 this is what you were saying earlier, the changes.
05:34 Technology used the original suspects to clean up the investigation.
05:39 To show that the victim's boy was the one who killed her.
05:44 Where was this?
05:45 In Paranaque.
05:46 But the suspect?
05:48 The suspect was the leading out of two houses.
05:51 So, how was this solved?
05:52 It was a conspiracy.
05:53 Yes, how was the truth revealed?
05:55 And this is more, Igan, this is exclusive.
05:58 We were able to talk to the boy who was imprisoned for two months.
06:03 That's the suspect.
06:04 Because he was wrongfully accused.
06:06 Because of the manipulation of the real suspects.
06:09 And here in the Pinoy Crime Stories,
06:12 we will know what happened to him inside the prison.
06:17 Invite them there so they can know the truth.
06:21 Yes, my dear viewers, thank you very much.
06:23 And here it is, there is no more delay.
06:26 Tomorrow, Saturday, 4.45, the Pinoy Crime Stories.
06:33 This is the new crime drama of the Filipinos.
06:37 So, we hope you will learn.
06:39 This Saturday, 4.45 p.m., only here on GMA.
06:43 Congratulations.
06:45 Thank you.
06:46 There, you will be baptized, there is a consultation.
06:49 Good luck tomorrow, Igan.
06:51 If it doesn't reach there, it can be on Monday.
06:55 But it's better if we have ham.
06:57 Where is that ham?
07:00 [laughter]
07:01 [BLANK_AUDIO]
