00:00 Have you heard of Ember Days?
00:01 In the Western Church,
00:02 there's an ancient liturgical tradition
00:04 that revolves around the beginning of each four seasons.
00:08 And it consists of three days set aside
00:10 for fasting and prayer.
00:11 It's always the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday following
00:14 St. Lucie's Feast Day on December 13th,
00:17 the first Sunday in Lent, Pentecost or Whit Sunday,
00:21 and the exaltation of the Holy Cross,
00:23 which is September 14th.
00:24 And while the faithful aren't required
00:26 to observe these days of fasting and abstinence anymore,
00:29 it's still a really beautiful practice
00:31 and just helps the faithful get in touch
00:33 with the ancient churches' aggregarian roots.
00:36 But I am only scratching the surface here
00:38 on the history of Ember Days.
00:39 You can learn more by going to alatea.org
00:42 or just even go to Google and type in Ember Days Alatea.
00:46 It'll pop up for you.
00:48 Happy learning.
