And just like that, Honda’s Comfortable Runabout Vehicle has six generations. The all-new 2024 Honda CR-V finally arrives in the Philippine market, and there’s a hybrid variant available. Is this a sign that Honda Cars Philippines will slowly introduce electrification in its lineup?

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The latest CR-V comes in three variants, with prices ranging from P2,100,000 to P2,590,000. Aside from the hybrid powertrain, which exclusively powers the top-spec five-seater CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV variant, there’s also the option of a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine propelling the two seven-seater versions. And aside from Honda Sensing being standard across the range, this generation of the CR-V also introduces Honda Connect—which uses Internet connectivity to allow various safety, service monitoring, and remote control features to be accessed via a smartphone—to the Philippine market.

Click play on the video above for a quick preview of the all-new 2024 Honda CR-V, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

00:00 The CR-V is one of Honda's most important models not just in the Philippines but also
00:06 worldwide. See, Honda easily sells over half a million units of this every year with North
00:11 America being one of the biggest clients. But locally, there has been about 70,000 units since
00:17 1997 so this 6th generation model is a very important one indeed because it is one of many firsts.
00:24 [Music]
00:34 Now, the 6th generation CR-V is a bit of a departure compared to the last couple of
00:38 generations of the CR-V. See, the 3rd, the 4th, and the 5th gen sort of had an elongated front
00:44 and this time around, it's a little bit more flat-nosed but at the same time a bit bolder
00:50 as emphasized by this massive front grille and if you haven't noticed yet, this is the RS model and
00:56 it's also the first time Honda has applied that badge to this crossover. As you can see, it's got
01:02 a different grille pattern, got gloss black trimmings right here at the front and you're
01:06 gonna see more of them on the side and over at the back and interestingly, it has body-colored
01:12 cladding and that's not something most crossovers and SUVs have and we say it's a break from the
01:18 norm and it makes the CR-V look bigger than it actually is. As for other things about the RS,
01:25 of course, it's got black wheels and more black highlights towards the back end. As expected,
01:32 the all-new CR-V is longer, taller, and wider than the model it replaces and it also has a longer
01:37 wheelbase. Now, this time around, it's a bit simpler, cleaner, more minimalist, and a bit more
01:42 straight. Now, if you can see the character line that runs right up from the tip of the headlight
01:48 it actually connects to the tip of the taillight right back there and because it's longer and it's
01:54 got a longer wheelbase, we can expect more space over inside. It wouldn't be a CR-V if it didn't
02:01 have vertical taillights and the day they take these out, we're not going to call it a CR-V
02:05 anymore. It's always been part of this crossover's design since 1995. Over at the back, it's a bit of
02:12 an evolution of the fifth generation's look but it's a bit edgier this time around, sharper, more
02:18 aggressive, just like the theme at the front. Tailgate is a little bit more bulbous around here
02:24 in the center. At the rear, just that tad bit more rakish to give it a more dynamic look. And in case
02:30 you haven't noticed, it says "EH-EV" on it. Yes, this is the first Honda crossover with EHEV
02:38 technology and even if you take out the badge, you're going to notice this blue H logo right at
02:44 the back. So let me tell you a little bit more about EHEV here. So it's got a 2-liter Atkinson
02:50 cycle engine and it's got a pair of electric motors. Now the combined output of it is 205
02:57 horsepower and a maximum torque of about 335 newton meters. Now the Philippine-spec EHEV is
03:05 two-wheel drive and five-seater for now but Honda isn't mentioning any plans just yet but fingers
03:10 crossed they do offer an all-wheel drive down the line. And while we're here at the back, we might
03:16 as well take a look at the cargo area. Now the EHEV is the only model with a five-seater configuration
03:26 and from observation at least, the cargo floor is much longer than before. A little bit wider and
03:32 it's got some pockets here at the side. And well this is a Honda so they're kind of known for space
03:38 efficiency so that's to be expected that it does have a larger cargo area. Now we're gonna hop in
03:44 inside and take a poke around. Inside the all-new CR-V, it's a bit of an industrial design and we're
03:51 happy to report that there's fill buttons and dials in here. We're glad that Honda and most
03:57 Japanese manufacturers haven't resorted to putting all controls right in the screen which is a little
04:03 bit distracting to be frank about it. Now buttons, dials, and they're actually pretty nice to touch
04:09 and Honda would like to emphasize that the build quality and the feel has been further improved in
04:17 this generation. Now right now we're in the RS so it has a couple of RS exclusives of course. So
04:24 you got red stitching right up on the steering wheel and on the seats. You get a brushed aluminum
04:30 effect trim right here on the dashboard and if you look up here it's got a massive panoramic
04:37 sunroof. Oh it's also got sport pedals down there just to add to that sporty look. Now if you want
04:44 to know more about the features of the CR-V RS, you can check out our website and see our Everything
04:51 You Need to Know about the 6th Generation CR-V and you can read all about the specs there from
04:56 this top-of-the-line model all the way to the base. So what's this variant then? Well it is the
05:03 mid-spec VX Turbo all-wheel drive and it's this variant that's the only one with traction to all
05:09 four wheels. It is markedly different compared to the RS. It now actually gets black cladding down
05:15 there. Well a slightly less aggressive front end but still pretty stylish in my book and it's got
05:22 silver alloys as well. Now you may have noticed I said turbo somewhere there. That's because this
05:28 is powered by a 1.5-liter VTEC turbo engine and no it is not exactly the same engine as found in
05:36 the Civic. In fact, it shares more with the Accord. See this makes 188 horsepower and 240 Newton
05:44 meters of torque exactly the same figures as the discontinued Accord Turbo. So before you say that
05:50 the CR-V is a Civic wagon with extra ground clearance, it goes well beyond that. A lot of
05:56 engineering work went into this model whether it's the Turbo or the Hybrid. So this model might not
06:03 have the Hybrid powertrain but this particular variant and the entry-level model has a party
06:09 trick up its sleeve and it's actually three-row seating. So just in case you have to carry extra
06:15 passengers on a whim, at least you can carry more with these gas-powered CR-Vs. Last but not least
06:23 is this the V-Turbo, the entry-level model of the all-new CR-V lineup. Now I know it looks exactly
06:29 the same as the VX Turbo earlier although this one does have two-wheel drive only. Now the only
06:35 distinguishable differences between the V-Turbo and the VX Turbo is an all-wheel drive badge and
06:42 that's it. Really they're almost indistinguishable. So if you take out the all-wheel drive badge in
06:47 the VX Turbo model, you probably can't tell the difference. Like the VX Turbo all-wheel drive,
06:52 this also comes with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and it has exactly the same power output figures.
06:59 So 188 horsepower and 240 newton meters of torque. It is worth pointing out that both
07:04 turbo petrol models shift with a CVT or a continuously variable transmission while the
07:10 RS-EHEV comes with an e-CVT. So it's a different kind of CVT and it's more specialized for that
07:18 sort of powertrain and oh by the way this one also comes with three-row seating. Now prices you ask.
07:25 Well this one starts at 2.1 million pesos, the all-wheel drive at 2,280,000 pesos, and the RS
07:34 Hybrid at 2,490,000 pesos. Now I am aware that the pricing is sort of somewhere there with the larger
07:43 truck-based SUVs but really these crossovers and SUVs come with different target markets. But what
07:49 do you guys think compared to models like the RAV4 or the CX-5? What do you think of the all-new CR-V?
