00:46 Afgarian, you know, a guy with a lot of experience
00:50 standing in front of him.
00:51 And he's only been put down one time.
00:54 Only been stopped one time.
00:55 How do you prepare and start a fight
00:57 knowing that your guy can go the distance
00:59 and doesn't go easy?
01:00 - Him being 31 years old, it just tells me
01:02 that he probably had a lot of amateur experience
01:05 in Armenia. - No doubt about it.
01:07 Yeah, they have a strong amateur system.
01:08 - Yes, they do.
01:09 So I imagine the game plan is just,
01:12 again, just to see what Monzo has.

01:24 - Yeah, something tells me that Monzo's key to victory
01:28 is getting close and just let your hands go.

01:41 So he's living up to the dancing part

01:46 But when he does plant his feet, he lets his hands go.

01:58 allowing Monzo to kind of get him up against the ropes.

04:18 But the accurate, clear power punching landed by Afgarian.

04:35 - Well, he's aggressive, but he's not being affected.

06:16 It's gotta be a bit deflating, I think, Abel,
06:22 for someone like Monzo who's throwing with volume.
06:25 Even when he does land,
06:26 it doesn't seem to really have any effect.
06:28 - I think in his career,
06:29 he's been one that's played this game before.

06:34 - Afgarian, I think, should be a little busier
06:37 when he's up against Monzo.
06:38 Even if it's just single shots,

06:41 just hoping to get the referee to interfere in this.

06:49 Afgarian, you know, power in both hands
06:51 and power from both stances,
06:52 both orthodox and self.

08:47 Sometimes when you got a real tough guy in front of you,
08:52 I think a steady jab has a way of--
08:56 Yeah, well, he'll set up your power.
09:01 He's doing a good job just with doing power shots
09:02 because this guy spurs up as much as he does.
09:07 But I think it could slow down his pressure,
09:11 and I'd like to see if he could wear him down
09:13 with a lot of jabs to the head,
09:15 and then start to walk down reportedly, so to speak.
09:19 He does a real good job, Afgarian,
09:21 of playing the matador,
09:23 but I would guess he's just as strong as Monzo
09:28 or he looks more athletic anyways.
09:30 I mean, he could do this for eight rounds,
09:34 but if you could force a stoppage,
09:36 I think that's a better way.
09:38 That's a bigger stake.
09:40 - I'd like to see him there,
09:41 he has enough to get up to somebody.
09:43 I'd like to see him get a shot.
09:45 - I think it's in the head.
09:48 - Yeah, look, I mean, the head is just
09:50 such an inviting target, it's just right there.
09:52 - It's been really inviting since I've done it last time.

09:57 It does look like Monzo's body is right there to be tagged.

11:57 he needs to go to the body and set up his head shots
11:59 a little more, and the referee will interfere in the fight.

14:02 at the same time.
14:04 - I mean, you know, cuffing with both hands.

14:09 That's--but, I mean, that's a sign of frustration,
14:11 doing stuff like that.

15:43 but he's got to do something, Abel.
15:45 The offense that he's landing,
15:46 it just comes down to being ineffective.
15:48 - He's completely out of class,
15:49 but I'd like to see Amgari, when he throws his head shots,
15:53 just move to the body.
15:54 He throws a right hook.
15:55 Give me a left hook to the body.
15:56 Give me a left hook, give me a right hook to the body.
15:58 I think that when you get hit with a good shot up on top,
16:01 you're exposed, your body's exposed,
16:03 and you're not ready for the body shot.
16:04 I think that'll take us through the next three rounds,
16:08 and then we can start with it.
16:10 - There's a body shot right there.
16:12 Left to the body after he landed two huge overhand rights.
16:17 The overhand rights aren't doing anything.
16:20 The body shots could.
16:22 Sharon Sands is basically warning the corner shots
16:25 looking at their guys,
16:26 and I think that's fair because we all know
16:29 he's lost the first four rounds,
16:31 so if he can't win this round--
16:34 - Let's just let the doctor take a quick look at you.
16:36 Just make sure.
16:37 - This is the ringside physician
16:39 who's going to explain to him
16:40 that he's getting too much punishment.
16:43 - You know, Monzo is lucid.
16:45 I think he's still with it,
16:46 but the bottom line is he can't take that punishment repeatedly
16:49 and not have any chance to throw anything back.
16:51 What he's doing is not really benefiting.
16:53 - Yeah, and it's getting to the point
16:55 where Varian has, you know, insurmountable lead,
16:57 and it doesn't look like Monzo has the power
17:00 to turn it around,
17:01 so why have him take these big shots
17:04 for four more rounds?
17:06 I would hope if Monzo eats a bunch of shots in this round
17:12 that the corner would just wave it off,
17:14 just keep him on his stool after this round.
17:18 But sadly, often the corners are as brave as the fighters,
17:22 and this guy is very brave,
17:23 and very brave fighters need to be safe to themselves.
17:27 - It's a tough position to be in, Coach,
17:28 when you think about it,
17:29 because the corner never wants to take away the fight
17:31 from their fighter,
17:32 but sometimes, you know, leveler heads have to prevent.
17:35 - I mean, it comes to a point in the second round
17:37 that he's not going to land that shot.
17:40 It's a sense of protecting himself.
17:44 [all shouting]
17:47 - Trying to work in the corner here is Monzo.
17:51 - He's got a good chance to take two.
17:55 - Played that same game, the referee warning.

18:02 - This is a great opportunity for Larry, too,
18:04 to practice some of the things
18:05 that they've been working on in the gym.
18:07 You've got a tough guy in front of you
18:08 that's going to take everything back again,
18:11 and practice. - Right.

18:17 - He brings it home for Monzo.

18:32 Again, Monzo just marching forward.
18:35 - I've got him very good at landing accurate power shots
18:39 from mid-range and in close,
18:41 very good at punching on the fly while he's moving.
18:45 - You can probably just see him try to back Monzo up
18:49 with a nice, stiff, straight jab,
18:52 either out of the southpaw or orthodox stance,
18:55 and land some straight shots as he's backing Monzo up.
19:00 Try to take that bang away from Monzo.

19:06 And I think he has the physical ability to do that.
19:11 I guess, you know, this is his style.

19:17 - Looking back at the fight with Monzo,
19:19 they don't seem to be too worried.
19:21 - They don't seem worried.
19:22 - Yeah, they don't seem concerned,
19:23 but I think they should be.
19:26 - Nice right hand from Garrett.

19:32 - I mean, it's a tough place for the referee,
19:36 'cause Monzo's in there swinging.
19:39 He's just taking a lot of punishment.

19:44 - And when he does, like, drop a saddle like this,
19:47 they miss or they're blocked,
19:49 and the punches they throw
19:50 don't seem to have any effect on Abgaon.

19:54 - I mean, he needs relentless aggression
19:56 by Manuel Monzo, but it's not effective.

19:59 - And the referee and the doctor are in a tough position.

20:09 it's gonna be a win or a knockdown

20:23 He's not gonna stop trying, Monzo,
20:25 but you'd like to think that maybe the corner's gonna say,

20:30 But they're still giving him instruction

20:47 - He's gonna be afforded the opportunity to fight on.

21:17 And we've seen thus far, he's been throwing great shots.

21:41 She was waiting for that opportunity,
21:43 and when Evgarian came forward
21:45 and backed this dude off balance,
21:47 that gave her the opportunity.
21:49 And I'm not mad at the stoppage.
21:51 I know Monzo's a proud warrior, and he is,
21:54 but I think it was the right call.
21:57 - And he'll fight again. I mean, the kid's a gamer.
22:00 He's gonna go out there, and he was riding
22:02 a beautiful win streak into this fight,
22:04 but tonight belongs to Narg Evgarian,
22:06 and referee, like you said,
22:08 was just waiting for the opportunity.
22:10 Evgarian gave it to her, and the stoppage is adjustable.
22:13 - Yeah, the thing is, TJ, is that Monzo
22:16 can make for really good fights
22:18 against a lesser-talented fighter.
22:20 It's just that Evgarian has this amateur background
22:23 and this fighting style, this boxing style,
22:26 that just basically neutralizes Monzo.
22:29 So this fight wasn't as entertaining
22:32 as I'm sure Monzo can be.
22:33 He can come back, put him in there with another bull,
22:36 another gamer, and we get a nice slugfest.
22:39 - Hey, Monzo was here to entertain.
22:40 He entertained everybody.
22:41 It takes two to tango. He was willing to do his part.
22:44 - He was game, and he deserves credit for that.
22:47 - He's gonna take it two in a row up here
22:49 as the crowd is appreciative of his work.
22:53 - As well they should be.
22:56 - But tonight belongs to Narg Evgarian,
22:59 picking up the 16th win.

23:06 But it wasn't without effort from Manuel Monzo.
23:10 - He's got nothing to be ashamed of.

23:24 He landed a couple right hands and then a big left hook,
23:27 snapped the head back of Monzo,
23:28 and as soon as Monzo's back touched the rope,
23:30 Sharon Sands, the referee, said,
23:32 "Okay, here's my opportunity."
23:35 And it's not like Monzo's really reeling,
23:37 like, 'cause he's out of it.
23:39 It's not like he's concussed or anything like that.
23:41 He's just, you know, he's being physically overwhelmed
23:44 for the first time in the fight.
23:45 And it's an opportunity to stop the fight
23:47 and spare him from undue punishment.
23:50 - It was really five-plus rounds of one-way action.
