00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.

00:08 We start today's news episode with a factoid that will make you say "huh, that's neat".

00:13 On Twitter, Trinity revealed that she and Bryan Myers both featured on Raw 1000, SmackDown

00:18 1000 and Impact 1000, the latter of which was taped this past Saturday.

00:23 Huh.

00:24 That's neat.

00:25 Anyway, today's top story revolves around LA Knight.

00:28 Yeah, as reports and rumours recently painted the picture of Knight re-signing with WWE

00:33 for a big ol' contract extension of 5 years, presumably for a lot more money.

00:37 However there's been some pushback to those claims, courtesy of Fightful Select.

00:41 They report that while, yes, Knight and WWE have been in contract negotiations, and while,

00:46 yes, Knight was offered a 5 year contract extension, it has not been signed yet, and

00:51 as of the time of reporting, Knight and WWE were reportedly far apart on money with no

00:56 deal being imminent.

00:58 Another angle to the contract negotiation reports and rumours in the past week is that

01:02 Knight's long-awaited push within WWE was being held off until Knight had re-signed

01:07 that contract.

01:08 However, Fightful Select's WWE sources have pushed back on this too, saying that a significant

01:13 number of wrestlers on the roster have deals coming up next year, and they're still receiving

01:18 pushes, and Knight's contract isn't due to expire until well into 2025.

01:23 So really, Knight hasn't been pushed as high as people want because they're waiting

01:27 for the right time still, so they say.

01:30 Wonder when that will be.

01:31 I mean granted, he's been featured a little bit more, but he is also in a feud with The

01:35 Miz, so you know, how much of a push is that really?

01:39 Now last night's Raw was quite the historic one, as the Endeavor/UFC/WWE deal is set to

01:44 be finalised today, meaning yesterday's episode was the last one where Vince McMahon

01:49 would have ultimate power over WWE.

01:52 Granted, he still will be mostly in control, perhaps more so than he has been in the last

01:56 year, but that final say over everything in the company doesn't actually come from him

02:01 anymore as of today.

02:03 So to commemorate the occasion, Raw had a bunch of last minute changes and rewrites.

02:07 This comes from Fightful Select, who say that plans for Raw and main event tapings were

02:11 changed several times over.

02:13 Specifically at one point, Cody Rhodes was lined up to open the show, but instead that

02:17 was changed to Jey Uso.

02:18 Zoe Stark vs Natalya was reportedly lined up for main event, but that was pulled, and

02:23 The Viking Raiders vs Shelter Benjamin and Cedric Alexander was moved to main event instead

02:27 of being on Raw.

02:28 There quite possibly could have been more, especially with plans changing several times

02:32 over, but that's all we know of right now.

02:35 And of course Raw ended with a shock return, which Luke will be reviewing here shortly,

02:39 but if you don't want to be spoiled, it's time to click away in 3, 2, CM Punk Returns

02:44 to WWE, just kidding, that was a little joke.

02:49 Nia Jax returned in the closing moments of Raw, attacking both Rhea Ripley and Raquel

02:54 Rodriguez.

02:55 Everyone's really pleased to see her.

02:58 Fightful Select is reporting that Jax had been re-signed to WWE for over a month, and

03:02 while there was speculation that the WWE/Endeavor/UFC deal had a part to play in her not coming back

03:07 to screen sooner, that had been denied.

03:09 Several in the company reportedly thought that Jax would return sooner than she did.

03:13 So Kairi Sane's on her way back to WWE, and suddenly Nia Jax returns.

03:17 Rot roll, Raggy.

03:18 Now over to Luke.

03:19 Before the Raw review, it's time for a Match of the Year candidate from everyone's favourite

03:24 Rexpert.

03:25 It's Mark Markerson.

03:28 Wrestling Expert.

03:29 Just trying to emphasise.

03:30 This week's Match of the Year candidate comes from Stardom's 5 star Grand Prix.

03:39 Now I'm barely offline, so I've seen a lot of the discourse around women's wrestling

03:43 and American shows, and let me tell you, if you want to see women's wrestling done well,

03:48 look at Japan.

03:49 Did you know, Luke, Eric Bischoff had such a reverence for Japanese women's wrestling

03:53 that he decided it wasn't even worth trying a women's division in WCW.

03:57 Now that is respect.

03:59 The Joshi scene features some of the very best athletic competition in the world, and

04:03 Stardom's 5 star Grand Prix is their answer to the fabled G1.

04:07 This year's field is stacked with Mariah May, Mayu Iwatani, I could go on.

04:12 But my match pick this week is actually from the non-Grand Prix portion of the card.

04:16 It's a tag team match between the team of May-Sara and Suzu Suzuki against the champions,

04:21 the Cosmic Angels.

04:23 Now in that line-up, you could expect the match would be very good, and certainly the

04:25 first half delivered with fast-paced action that was essentially an amuse-bouche for what

04:30 was to come in the closing stages, which was a full-on high-speed showcase.

04:34 Each woman proved why they deserve their spot in this series, but for me, I want to highlight

04:38 Suzuki for particular praise.

04:40 Every time she stepped in the ring, she made her presence known.

04:43 She's only 20 years old, and already she has this real superstar air around her.

04:47 They call her the Violent Prodigy, and she backs it up.

04:51 But on this night, with a flurry of offence and some incredibly creative fitting combinations,

04:55 it was the Cosmic Angels who were able to get the job done.

04:58 A fantastic advert if you ask me for Joshi, and I'm ecstatic to award this match 18

05:03 stars.

08:00 Imperium aren't just the best thing on Raw by a country mile, they're also the best

08:05 thing in WWE as a whole.

08:07 And that includes NXT, and Chad Gable and the rest of Alpha Academy are just as good,

08:14 if not better.

08:15 So how do you follow up last week's incredible main event?

08:18 Well you have a just as good, if not better in-ring segment to set up a rematch and a

08:25 banging trios match on this episode of Raw.

08:28 A rematch between Gable and Gunther is a great idea because the two are awesome together,

08:33 but the next time they meet there will be genuine jeopardy.

08:37 Look, let's be honest, no one really believed that Gunther was losing last week because

08:41 of the record and all that, but that's now passed.

08:44 He's gotten the record.

08:46 So now Chad beating him is entirely possible.

08:50 Chad and Gunther cut awesome promos on each other and brawled until Otis and Tommaso Ciampa

08:55 ran down to even the odds.

08:57 Sorry, I think I got that wrong.

08:59 I said Tommaso Ciampa, but he was doing the DIY stuff.

09:06 No, it was.

09:10 It was Tommaso Ciampa.

09:12 Drew McIntyre beat Xavier Woods in a very good match which was set up earlier in the

09:16 day when Woods suggested that Drew got angry with Kofi Kingston last week because Drew

09:20 won his WWE title in front of no fans, while Kofi did his in front of 82,000 fans.

09:26 Gee, I wonder why they said that specific number.

09:30 This match was so damn good, and it really made Woods feel like he was on the same level

09:35 as Drew McIntyre.

09:36 Cody Rhodes was supposed to cut an in-ring promo, but he was quickly interrupted by Dominik

09:40 Mysterio and JD McDonough, and Cody beat them both up with relative ease.

09:44 It has been nearly 40 days since Cody ended his long feud with Brock Lesnar.

09:50 That's well over a month, an entire PPV cycle, and despite being the top merch seller

09:55 at Payback - a show that he wasn't actually booked for a match on but still outsold - a

10:00 returning John Cena, despite that, WWE have nothing for Cody Rhodes.

10:07 Is it because he's going to Smackdown as part of this J-Trade, or is it more likely

10:13 because they just had no plans for him once they decided to not put the belt on him at

10:17 WrestleMania?

10:18 Either way, just putting Cody back into a program with Dom is really terrible and lazy

10:22 booking - do better, WWE.

10:25 It's Cody f***ing Rhodes.

10:26 Piper Niven is back, but that wasn't enough to help Chelsea Green beat Shayna Baszler

10:31 who killed poor Chelsea with a Piper's Pit.

10:33 So we start Baszler back up after the match and set up your next Women's Tag Title feud,

10:37 but if that partner doesn't work out for you, Shayna, I know someone who worked with

10:40 you rather well who will be back later on today.

10:43 Shinsuke Nakamura cut another video promo about Seth being a liar and manipulator, and

10:47 Seth responded by agreeing with him, and again wanted to have a match for the World Title

10:52 right here and right now, but Nakamura decided that he didn't want that and instead beat

10:57 up Ricochet again.

11:00 Becky Lynch and Tiffany Stratton signed a contract for their NXT match tonight, and

11:03 we got that excellent trios match of Imperium vs. Alpha Academy and Ciampa which was so,

11:10 so good.

11:11 If you watched just one thing from Raw this week, make sure it is this match.

11:21 The crowd were super hot for it, which only highlighted how mild they were for the main

11:26 event of Raquel Rodriguez vs. Rhea Ripley for the Women's World Championship.

11:30 Maybe it's because no one bites into Raquel beating Rhea, or maybe it's because we saw

11:35 these two people have a pretty lousy match just two weeks ago on PPV, but either way

11:41 this crowd were not all into this action, which in fairness was befitting the lack of

11:46 reaction.

11:47 The crowd did come alive for the final few moments, but Nia Jax made her return to WWE

11:52 by taking out Raquel to allow Rhea to get the win, and then beat up Ripley afterwards

11:56 too.

11:57 Nia Jax is back, and already in the title picture.

12:01 And you thought he was gone now that the Endeavor deal is done.

12:04 And that was the show.

12:05 Another totally fine edition of Raw carried by Imperium and Alpha Academy.

12:09 It just feels like so much of Raw is spinning its wheels with numerous repeated programs

12:15 and an incredible lack of direction for Cody Rhodes.

12:18 It's like it's on Raw Pete or something.

12:23 The J-Stuff continues to be interesting, and of course Imperium are awesome, but that's

12:26 about it.
