00:02 - Hi, my name's Nick Drain.
00:06 I'm a PGA professional and master fitting specialist
00:08 here at the Titleist Performance Center at Woburn.
00:10 And today we're gonna talk about helping you
00:12 to stop slicing your driver.
00:14 The most common reason I see why golfers slice the golf ball
00:17 is because their setup is not quite correct.
00:20 If we can get you in the right setup
00:21 in terms of your alignments, your feet, hips, knees,
00:24 shoulders, and grip, we can then produce
00:27 the right golf swing to get the golf ball flying
00:29 at its optimum flight and distance.
00:31 So typically the slice is caused
00:33 by an over the top swing path with an open club face.
00:36 We'll talk about a few fundamentals
00:38 that are gonna help you to prevent you from doing this.
00:40 So the first one is gonna be our ball position.
00:43 So the ball position we want opposite our left heel.
00:46 The shaft and my left arm form one line.
00:50 My right shoulder then drops slightly lower than my left,
00:53 creating a nice angle there.
00:55 That's gonna allow me to deliver the golf club
00:57 with a positive angle at the tack
01:00 and swing the golf club out to the right.
01:02 One of the most common mistakes I see
01:04 is that as you can see my head is positioned
01:06 behind the golf ball.
01:07 A lot of the time where people slice the golf ball
01:09 and they cause that over the top club head path
01:11 is where they are too on top of the golf ball.
01:14 My shoulders are now pointing away to the left
01:17 and that causes the club to come across the golf ball
01:20 with an open face.
01:21 It's gonna start left and move right.
01:24 By staying behind it with my correct grip,
01:28 I'm gonna control the club face
01:30 and produce a nice high straight golf shot.
01:34 As well as following these fundamentals,
01:39 I'd always encourage you to get properly fit
01:40 for your driver by a qualified PGA professional
01:43 using a launch monitor if available.
01:46 Couple of additional things you can do
01:47 to help you preventing your slice.
01:49 At Titleist we use a SureFit Hossle.
01:51 Through that we can make different lie adjustments
01:53 to the driver that will help you with your start line.
01:55 Also we can then adjust the loft.
01:57 By adding a little bit of loft,
01:59 we can also close the club face.
02:00 That's also gonna help minimize your slice.
02:03 I'm now gonna demonstrate to you
02:04 the incorrect setup position.
02:06 So I've got a weak grip.
02:08 That's gonna cause the club face to be open.
02:11 I'm on top of the golf ball.
02:13 My shoulders are pointing to the left.
02:15 All these three attributes are gonna cause
02:16 that golf club to go out and across the golf ball
02:21 causing it to start left and curve to the right.
02:24 What we like to see is that proper setup position.
02:28 Ball opposite my left heel.
02:29 My head is now positioned behind the golf ball
02:31 looking this direction.
02:33 My correct grip, I say I've got the Vs of my thumb
02:36 and forefinger pointing up to my right shoulder.
02:39 And now I can make a nice turn behind the golf ball
02:42 and deliver it with a nice positive angle of attack
02:45 hitting it on the up, launching the ball
02:48 nice and straight and high for optimum distance
02:51 and direction.
