00:00 Kendrick Lamar rolled out two new songs this week, and his latest one, "Humble,"
00:03 released as a video, is a showstopper and a heart-stopper with its unbelievable
00:09 lyrics, its unbelievable beats, and it's absolutely insane visuals, courtesy of
00:14 director Dave Myers and the Little Homies. The beat is killer, and I don't
00:18 know if I've seen a video recently with this many references in it. So pay
00:23 attention, because we're gonna go through some of them right now. Okay, the video
00:27 begins with a shot of Kendrick bowing his head in prayer as a pope. Some are
00:31 saying it's a reference to Jude Law's HBO series "Young Pope," which would be
00:34 weird enough, but it gets crazier. Kendrick in one shot stands in a black
00:38 turtleneck channeling either Tupac or Steve Jobs, depending on who you ask. He
00:42 restages "Last Supper" with actors representing Future, Big Sean, Migos, DJ
00:47 Khaled, or it could be Fat Joe. And between these two shots, he also
00:50 discusses how he hates the use of Photoshop on women's bodies in media,
00:54 basically calling out all things around power, money, and sex. But for me, it's not
00:59 complete unless someone references the Grey Poupon ad from the 80s. Oh wait, he
01:03 just did that! But it's not just the insane visuals of the video. The lyrics,
01:06 brilliant on their own also, call out Big Sean. No surprise here, because they've
01:12 been having some beef lately. For example, this lyric could be a reference to Big
01:15 Sean telling the rapper to "be humble" as it references his catchphrases.
01:21 Or this lyric about Kendrick being paged by Obama is read as him making fun
01:27 of Drake after a 2016 interview, where Obama said that while he loved Drake,
01:32 Obama saw Kendrick and Chance the Rapper as the true future of rap. So with a
01:38 video this crazy, of course the fans and everyone have a lot to say about it. This
01:42 user commented, "Kendrick further solidifying himself as the king." And this
01:45 fan says, "If the rest of the songs in the new album are anything like this, it may
01:49 be Kendrick's best." That might be the case, and if his new album, which comes out
01:53 April 7th and we don't know a lot about it, is anything like this, it's going to
01:58 be freaking unbelievable. And if you love this video, you also might enjoy some of
02:02 these amazing fan reactions too.
02:17 So look out for more of Kendrick soon, including a headlining act at Coachella
02:21 in April. So what did you think about the new music video? What's your favorite
02:25 moment? Let us know in the comments below. For more trends, go to whatstrending.com.
