00:02 A nationwide manhunt is underway after this man,

00:07 a 21-year-old terror suspect named Daniel Khalif,

00:10 accused of leaving fake bombs at a military base,

00:13 escaped wearing a chef's uniform from Wandsworth Prison.

00:17 So how did he escape on Wednesday the 6th of September?

00:21 - At approximately 7.30 yesterday morning,

00:24 a vehicle which had made a delivery

00:26 to the prison's kitchen left HMP Wandsworth.

00:28 The prison was put into a state of lockdown

00:31 while staff attempted to determine

00:32 Daniel Khalif's whereabouts.

00:34 The vehicle was stopped and searched by police

00:36 after the alert was raised.

00:38 Strapping was found underneath the vehicle,

00:40 which appeared to indicate that Daniel Khalif

00:42 may have held onto the underside of it in order to escape.

00:45 - But this wasn't the first escape

00:47 from this Category B prison.

00:49 Security concerns were raised

00:50 after an inmate escaped five years ago,

00:53 which has put down to a serious security breach.

00:57 And it also turned out that more recent concerns

00:59 had been raised.

01:00 - A few months ago, Madam Deputy Speaker,

01:02 I raised the issue of low staffing levels

01:05 with the Justice Secretary because I had concerns.

01:07 Only seven prison officers turned up

01:09 for a night shift last December

01:11 to cover 1,500 inmates.

01:15 - Well, Mr. Khalif is thought to be a flight risk,

01:18 so extra security checks have been ramped up

01:21 at ports and airports across the nation,

01:24 causing cancellations and delays throughout the country.

01:27 Well, the Justice Secretary said

01:28 in the House of Commons today

01:30 that two reviews had urgently been launched

01:32 and one investigation.

01:34 And he finished his statement by saying this.

01:36 - Daniel Khalif will be found

01:38 and he will be made to face justice.
