01:35 - Today we find out Merrick's identity as Barris Sendula.
01:41 - Barris Sendula. (laughing)
01:43 - I think we're gonna go to the world between worlds today.
01:46 - I fear we face a difficult choice.
01:49 - What choice is that?
01:50 - If we can't make the journey to find Ezra,
01:53 then no one should.
01:54 - Oh, you'll make that journey,
01:58 as the shareholders demand it.
01:59 - He'd be stranded out there.
02:01 - Better that, than allowing Thrawn's return
02:04 as heir to the empire.
02:06 - Oh, said it.
02:08 - Can I count on you?
02:09 You know you can.
02:14 - It's missing some weight.
02:17 I don't know what it is about the,
02:19 like I want it to be there,
02:20 it's just not there yet.
02:22 - Best get underway soon.
02:23 - Is that a note of fear in your voice?
02:25 - Experience.
02:28 - Experience.
02:30 - Flashback?
02:31 - Flashback?
02:33 - Give me a flashback, please.
02:35 (upbeat music)
02:37 - Music.
02:38 - Fallen Jedi.
02:40 - Okay, okay.
02:41 - What are we referring to?
02:43 - They usually have dual meanings, the-
02:45 - Dual fates?
02:46 - They usually have dual meanings.
02:47 - I mean, he's at least one of the fallen Jedi.
02:49 - Yes.
02:50 - Ahsoka is as well in her own experience.
02:52 - She doesn't quite identify as one.
02:53 - Oh, it's like poetry, it rhymes.
02:55 - Have you seen my e-cigarette, Ahsoka?
03:05 (laughing)
03:06 - You locked it down around here somewhere.
03:08 - Should I be?
03:08 - What?
03:11 - Worried.
03:12 - Worried.
03:13 - Nope.
03:15 - Talk to each other, guys.
03:19 - You know how much Ezra means to you.
03:21 - As it does to everyone
03:23 who didn't watch "Star Wars Rebels."
03:25 - Can't wait to see him.
03:26 - Sometimes we have to do what's right,
03:29 regardless of our personal feelings.
03:30 - Just like what Ezra said,
03:32 gotta make the hardest choices.
03:33 - How did I do that?
03:37 - Whoa, dang.
03:38 - Kick some ass.
03:40 - Yeah.
03:41 - Ugh.
03:41 - Droid on a droid fight.
03:43 - Why did I not know I needed this?
03:48 - Ow.
03:49 - Whoa.
03:50 - You gotta have more than just that one speaker.
03:52 - Yes.
03:55 - Smart.
03:59 - Mandalorian Jedi.
04:06 - I'll never see it coming.
04:13 - Great.
04:17 - Yeah, that was cool.
04:18 - Ooh.
04:20 - Nice.
04:21 - Yeah, honestly, who needs the Force?
04:23 - She's doing great.
04:24 - Look at that teamwork.
04:25 - Nice of you to show up, Du Yang.
04:31 - I need you to contact General Syndulla
04:33 as soon as you can.
04:34 - Of course.
04:35 - We need the Ghost Crew.
04:36 - Stay together.
04:38 You always did better that way, in my opinion.
04:41 - We better get moving.
04:46 - Oh.
04:47 - Together.
04:48 - I see what y'all did there.
04:52 - Like their uncle.
04:55 - Ugh.
04:57 - And Alfred.
04:58 - God, it just, no matter how old I am, it's so cool.
05:02 - Oh my God, look.
05:05 - It's the Ghost!
05:06 - Oh my gosh.
05:07 - Oh wow.
05:10 - Oh my God, Jason's gonna be with them.
05:12 - Mom, how come I have to do what I'm told
05:15 and you don't?
05:16 (laughs)
05:17 - Well, when you're a general,
05:18 you can disobey orders too, until then, buckle up.
05:21 - No.
05:22 - Yeah, buckle up, Private.
05:23 - Can we please pick up Zeb on the way?
05:26 - Nah, you gotta leave something for season two, man.
05:28 - Oh, no way, she's got the squad.
05:34 - Awesome.
05:35 - Thanks for joining the party, Carson.
05:39 - Carson's here!
05:41 - Once a Rebel, always a Rebel.
05:44 - On your signal, Phoenix Leader.
05:46 - All right, all right, all right, all right.
05:49 - You go.
05:50 - We're all in on three.
05:51 - Go, Space Cap.
05:53 - Zeb, Zeb, Zeb, Zeb's not here, man.
05:56 (laughs)
05:58 - They wouldn't just throw him in that way.
06:01 - Those were all really important characters
06:02 to the Rangers of the New Republic.
06:03 - Your calculations are off.
06:05 We will be lost to the depths of the void.
06:08 - Have faith.
06:08 - Faith?
06:11 I lost that a long time ago.
06:14 - When I fell from being a Jedi.
06:16 - I love seeing Bathomir just come to life.
06:21 - Witchcraft.
06:27 - Witchcraft.
06:29 - Actually, though.
06:31 - Oh, here you go.
06:34 - I think we're gonna get something really big
06:38 at the end of this.
06:39 - I've got a feeling you're right.
06:41 - I think we're gonna get something huge.
06:42 - They've given us a nice build up.
06:44 - Oh! - Oh, boy.
06:45 - I am Starkiller.
06:47 - And Ezra Bridger, and this now.
06:50 - Going somewhere?
06:51 - To dinner?
06:54 - To the world between worlds.
06:56 - Oh, revenge fight.
07:02 - I bet we're not gonna learn anything
07:03 about this guy's identity.
07:05 - He's just a random character.
07:07 - I would not put that past.
07:09 - There's an interesting-
07:10 - I'll put money on that theory.
07:11 - Even the way she's looking at them,
07:13 just, there's some kind of connection there.
07:18 - Be cool if they took the helmet off this episode.
07:22 - Live action Inquisitor fights.
07:29 - Dual-bladed lightsaber fight.
07:34 That's cool.
07:35 Haven't gotten one in a long time.
07:37 - It's interesting if it is Starkiller,
07:39 they share similar lightsaber forms for Mannequin.
07:42 - Come on.
07:43 - Come on, get your lightsaber out.
07:45 - Oof.
07:46 - So that's how you take a helmet off.
07:49 - You're out of the Creed again.
07:50 - Oh, good dodge.
07:51 - There we go. - We're in the waters again.
07:54 - Very up-close camera work on this.
08:02 - Yeah, right? - Very intimate.
08:03 - Again, Kevin Kleiner's music is amazing.
08:07 - He was made for the big screen.
08:10 - Yes, on Disney Plus.
08:12 (laughing)
08:14 - She's growling frustrated.
08:18 I love how that's sort of embraced
08:20 the samurai style with her.
08:21 - The music.
08:26 - Come on.
08:31 - All right, all right, all right.
08:36 - Oh, she's gonna get the perfect strike.
08:41 - Yeah.
08:42 - That perfect strike, come on.
08:44 - Come on, man.
08:45 - Whoa, this hypnotic.
08:46 - There it is.
08:49 - Whoa.
08:52 - We can't end it there.
08:53 - Nope, we will.
08:54 - Yeah.
08:55 - You can't hype fans like that.
08:57 - It's a cool mask and that's it, all right.
08:59 - Whoa, he's just shadow dust stuff, what was that?
09:06 - Wait, that looked like Dathomir magic.
09:09 - It might've been, yeah,
09:10 it could have been the embodiment of that.
09:12 - Wait, maybe it was Cain.
09:13 - Fascinating.
09:18 - Shit, shit, shit, shit.
09:20 - Oh, this is great.
09:24 - You will regret this decision.
09:27 - Come on, you had that day of training, Sabine.
09:30 - Protect the map until I send for you.
09:34 - Oh boy.
09:38 - So maybe Merrick was just some like vessel thingy
09:41 or there's just an alien that is gaseous.
09:43 - It's like the Seth MacFarlane character in "Hellboy 2".
09:46 - In "Tales of the Jedi", there was a,
09:48 when Ahsoka killed that Inquisitor,
09:49 there was a similar kind of deflation.
09:52 - Just concentrate.
09:53 - The fight I've been waiting for.
10:00 - Anakin spoke highly of you.
10:03 - You, Anakin, okay.
10:04 - Interesting.
10:07 - He never mentioned you.
10:09 - Everyone in the order knew Anakin Skywalker.
10:12 Few would live to see what he became.
10:14 - I'm so intrigued right now.
10:15 - Surely that must leave a mark.
10:16 Is that why you walked away, abandoned him?
10:21 - Oh boy, I'm loving the vibe of this.
10:25 - I'm not here to discuss my past.
10:29 - But you have shit to get over.
10:31 - The only reason I'm here is to secure the future.
10:35 - Common goal.
10:36 (silence)
10:38 - Another Star War.
10:42 - Thrall will.
10:43 It is an unfortunate evil, but speaks to a greater truth.
10:48 One must destroy in order to create.
10:52 - Get at them lightsabers.
10:59 You in these writing sessions?
11:04 - How inevitable.
11:06 (laughter)
11:07 - Snaps.
11:08 - Oh boy.
11:10 - Oh gosh.
11:15 - Such a beautiful hilt.
11:16 - God, they keep teasing my dick with information
11:25 about this guy.
11:26 (laughter)
11:29 - In foreplay.
11:29 (laughter)
11:32 - No one wants to strike first.
11:38 - Cobra Kai.
11:40 (laughter)
11:42 - Whatever people say about this show,
11:46 I love the Shogun approach to the lightsaber duels.
11:48 - There's a lot in this.
11:50 - Yeah, it's very striking.
11:51 - Definitely a stun double there, okay.
11:56 - Ooh.
11:58 - Ooh.
11:59 - Now that's acting.
12:01 - Menacing.
12:01 - I appreciate that he's playing a more western,
12:05 medieval style.
12:09 - She's very much has this finesse
12:12 and he's just aggressive.
12:13 (dramatic music)
12:16 - Woo hoo.
12:21 - Ah, take that.
12:24 (laughter)
12:25 - Not bad.
12:26 (dramatic music)
12:29 - Whoa.
12:31 - Awesome.
12:32 - That's some more acrobatic skills coming to play.
12:34 (dramatic music)
12:37 - Oh no.
12:41 (dramatic music)
12:44 - Become the Jedi.
12:47 (dramatic music)
12:50 - Oh boy.
12:53 - Oh god.
12:54 - He's gonna have to use the force.
12:55 - Yeah, it's gonna come out.
12:56 - Moment of stress.
12:58 - Come on.
12:59 - Made you flinch.
13:02 - That's embarrassing.
13:03 - You have no power.
13:05 (dramatic music)
13:08 (laughter)
13:10 - Nice.
13:11 (dramatic music)
13:12 - Kano would be very proud.
13:13 - Cool, cool.
13:14 - Mental masters is one of death and destruction.
13:17 (dramatic music)
13:20 - Ooh.
13:21 - Yeah, let that pain out Ahsoka.
13:24 (dramatic music)
13:26 - Ow.
13:29 - Oh yeah.
13:30 (screaming)
13:32 - And for my next illusion,
13:38 there's gonna be a moment where Sabine uses so much force.
13:40 - That was unwise.
13:42 (laughter)
13:45 - Now it's both our asses.
13:46 - Time for the Padawan.
13:47 (dramatic music)
13:50 - Oh shit.
13:52 - Oh sweet.
13:53 (dramatic music)
13:56 - Oh boy.
13:57 - Oh no.
13:58 - Ooh.
13:59 - Ooh.
14:00 - Jeez.
14:00 (laughter)
14:01 - Yes, let that anger out.
14:03 - Oh, it's dangerous.
14:04 - Painful.
14:05 - Give it to the dark side Ahsoka.
14:06 (dramatic music)
14:08 - Oh yeah.
14:10 - It didn't need to come to this.
14:11 - Stop.
14:12 - Just shoot him.
14:14 - Destroy it.
14:15 - She can't.
14:17 - Ah, dude.
14:18 - She has to find Ezra.
14:19 - Step away from her.
14:21 - Or the map gets it.
14:23 (gunshot)
14:24 - No.
14:24 - Ooh, dang.
14:26 (dramatic music)
14:30 - She's in the world between worlds.
14:31 (laughter)
14:32 - Again.
14:33 (gunshots)
14:36 - Oh, she's gonna go with him?
14:41 - Yes.
14:41 - Do as your master says.
14:43 Destroy it.
14:45 - Smart.
14:46 (dramatic music)
14:49 - What do you sense?
14:52 - I know you feel that Ezra Bridger
14:54 is the only family you have left.
14:56 - What about Hera?
15:00 - Your family died on Mandalore.
15:01 - Okay.
15:03 - Because your master didn't trust you.
15:06 - Oh, there it is.
15:08 That's where all that resentment comes in.
15:10 - You and I share a common goal.
15:12 To make this journey.
15:15 - Oh wow.
15:16 - Yeah.
15:17 - Come with me.
15:21 - He's so good at manipulating young women, huh?
15:23 (laughter)
15:25 - We could learn a lot from this guy.
15:26 - You will be reunited with your friend.
15:28 - Maybe you already have been.
15:32 - Promise you's been looking for it, but it feels so dark.
15:37 - Do it.
15:39 - Do it.
15:40 - There it is.
15:43 - Psych.
15:44 - Oh wow.
15:46 - Feel the thud of that.
15:49 - Yeah.
15:50 - Feel the weight of it like the ring
15:52 from Lord of the Rings.
15:54 - Cold metal.
15:55 - Oh my.
16:00 - Oh boy.
16:01 - Give her my word, and unlike her former master,
16:07 I shall keep mine.
16:08 - He's so much presence.
16:11 - Yeah, we really lost something special with him, didn't we?
16:13 - The hyperspace route has been established.
16:16 - It's honestly the best thing
16:17 to happen to Star Wars in years.
16:19 - We are down.
16:20 Can you send assistance over?
16:22 - Copy, we're already here.
16:23 - Dang.
16:25 - Let's go.
16:28 - What can you tell me?
16:29 - The enemy has built a massive hyperspace ring.
16:32 - It's on your mind.
16:34 - Why would she bring him?
16:35 (laughter)
16:36 - That's so dangerous.
16:37 - This does seem like a very inopportune time
16:40 to take your kid to work today.
16:42 - Return at once.
16:44 - Understood.
16:47 - The ghost is getting stuck there in the portal.
16:50 - Wolf.
16:52 - Oh no.
16:55 - No one will be following us.
17:01 - You regret every decision.
17:08 - Wow. - Sick, sick, sick, sick.
17:12 - Damn, that is gorgeous.
17:15 - Six incoming new Republic craft.
17:17 They are obstructing our path.
17:19 - Hera.
17:21 - Yeah, maybe she should.
17:25 (laughter)
17:28 - Ignore them.
17:28 Engage the hyperdrive.
17:31 - Oh boy.
17:34 We're all going for a ride.
17:39 I just wanna see this new world.
17:41 I'm so excited.
17:43 - What does a different galaxy look like?
17:45 - You know, something Star Wars designers
17:46 would come up with.
17:47 - Jump right through us.
17:51 Wow.
17:53 Yikes.
17:56 - Whammo.
18:00 - Sweet.
18:01 - Awful way to go.
18:03 - Oh damn.
18:04 - Wow.
18:05 - You harm one hair and curse with a beard.
18:08 (laughter)
18:10 (growling)
18:12 - I've got a bad feeling.
18:20 (laughter)
18:22 - Interesting time for-
18:26 - We all do.
18:26 - That line.
18:27 - He's more sensitive.
18:30 He's feeling, figuring it out.
18:32 - I wonder if when she grabbed it,
18:36 Pergil.
18:39 - It's a cool transition.
18:40 - They don't need the map.
18:42 - Oh, whoa.
18:45 - Whoa, is she actually in the world between worlds?
18:47 - I think she's in the world between worlds.
18:48 - Again?
18:49 - Oh, Anakin's gonna be here.
18:50 - I totally feel it too.
18:52 - I can feel his presence.
18:53 - I can feel Anakin.
18:54 - Oh wow.
19:01 - Oh.
19:05 - Oh yeah.
19:06 - It's the world between worlds.
19:07 - I called it.
19:08 (laughter)
19:09 - Let it be known this day.
19:11 - That's gorgeous.
19:14 - Yeah.
19:15 - She's like a backyard.
19:20 - Master?
19:26 - I didn't expect to see you so soon.
19:30 (laughter)
19:37 - What point in the timeline will he be?
19:40 Yes.
19:41 - Hell yeah.
19:47 - DeAnakin.
19:50 - Oh baby.
19:59 (laughter)
20:01 - How's it tuning in next week for you?
20:05 - Somebody pulled her in.
20:07 - Who?
20:08 - Maybe him.
20:09 - Or?
20:10 - Ezra Bridger pulled her in.
20:11 - Ezra Bridger?
20:12 - And so did Kanan Jarrus, and so did...
20:14 - Well, I mean, Ezra already did once.
20:16 - All right, let's talk about it, guys.
20:19 All right, Jon.
20:20 (laughter)
20:22 - This definitely ended off in a very intriguing place.
20:25 And yeah, I mean, I'm fascinated by how
20:29 these Star Wars shows move, and I have been
20:32 pretty well kind of grabbed by this thus far.
20:36 In the past couple of episodes, I have been sitting here
20:39 going, okay, this is very linear, straightforward,
20:42 action-oriented, I am ready for something to kick,
20:45 something to evolve, you know, the next chapter
20:48 of the story to begin.
20:49 And that seems evidently what is about to happen,
20:52 both spiritually and physically.
20:55 And I really do appreciate, it's interesting.
21:01 I'm excited for what's to come.
21:04 I really appreciate the fact that they are going
21:06 for something a bit more brooding, a bit more airy,
21:08 and a bit more deliberate.
21:10 I have been sitting here, it was interesting
21:13 watching this episode because Ray Stevenson
21:15 has so much presence all the time when he's on screen,
21:19 and I can always feel the depths that I think
21:22 they want me to feel from everybody when he is on.
21:25 So there are times where I find myself, yeah,
21:27 a little bit kind of waiting for some real emotional story
21:31 to kick back up, especially between say Ahsoka and Sabine.
21:36 And I don't often or always feel the unsaid stuff
21:42 as much with them, and I'm waiting for that.
21:44 But this episode did certainly kind of grab me again
21:47 and go, okay, maybe we're about to get to the point
21:50 where some real challenges are gonna be met,
21:52 and also some real world building is gonna happen.
21:55 So yeah, I'm optimistic, I enjoyed this episode,
21:59 and it certainly kind of, I don't wanna say got better
22:02 as it got along, 'cause I didn't think it got bad
22:05 at any point, but yeah, I'm at a point where I've been
22:07 kind of ready for a next gear to be shifted into,
22:11 and I feel like this was gonna happen.
22:12 So yeah, pretty solid episode, I would say.
22:17 Pour moi.
22:19 - Michael?
22:20 - Well, you know, this has so many pieces
22:25 that have been missing.
22:31 I think the, I completely agree about Ray Stevenson.
22:36 That is a character that has dimension,
22:41 and there's something so fascinating and interesting
22:45 that you just wanna know more,
22:48 and definitively enhances everybody's performance
22:52 when he's on screen.
22:54 I think this episode, for the first time,
22:59 I really was like, ooh, this must really be rough
23:02 to not be a Rebels fan, in that they're dropping a lot.
23:07 They're doing, I think, the best job that they can
23:10 in terms of trying to handle just the sheer volume
23:15 of exposition, but I can only imagine
23:20 that this is a challenge.
23:21 And I think the heart of that challenge
23:23 comes from a very simple fact,
23:27 that you have an amazing actor as Ahsoka,
23:30 and you have an amazing actor as Sabine,
23:32 and I think the two of them have zero chemistry together
23:36 as talent, and it shows, and it sucks,
23:40 because I want them to, and I'm waiting for them to,
23:43 and for a while I thought, well, maybe this is just
23:46 the goal of the writing, but in reality,
23:50 I just think that relationship has fallen flat.
23:55 That being said, I don't think that the series,
23:57 because of that, is a lost cause.
23:59 There is so much that it does right,
24:03 and it's learning from, and I'm excited
24:07 to see where it goes.
24:09 I'm particularly excited, I think, Ahsoka as a character,
24:12 and her challenges.
24:14 I'm hoping that by getting to see her dynamic
24:17 with Anakin in the World Between Worlds,
24:20 which I just can't believe that I just saw that
24:24 in live action, it's insane.
24:26 I'm hoping that that will create an opportunity
24:30 for fans that maybe don't know Ahsoka
24:34 to fall in love with Ahsoka, and to really understand
24:37 why her character is so important,
24:40 not just to the story, but to Star Wars itself,
24:44 and what she represents, and what she's grown into,
24:48 and become, 'cause I really, I know there's always
24:53 a lot of (imitates gunfire)
24:54 on the internet about, well, you have two female leads.
24:57 This was actually the first Star Wars content ever
25:00 where two women with lightsabers had their lightsabers
25:03 clash, which is kind of insane to think that that's
25:06 just the first time it's happened.
25:07 - The Bechdel saber fight.
25:08 - The Bechdel saber fight.
25:10 I love it, but I think Ahsoka, as we talk about
25:15 authentic representation, and doing a good job,
25:20 and having characters that are meaningful,
25:21 and playing a role, when Ahsoka first joined
25:24 the Star Wars universe as Anakin's Padawan,
25:28 she kind of universally hated, and over time,
25:32 through writing and through building character,
25:36 you watch this little girl grow up into the ultimate
25:39 badass, and I think there's a generation of fans
25:44 who really identify with her, and I'm excited
25:48 for people that have not necessarily gone
25:50 through the Clone Wars journey, and the Rebels journey,
25:53 to finally have the chance to see the Ahsoka
25:56 that we fell in love with.
25:57 So, I know that was a lot of thoughts, I apologize.
26:01 - You don't have to apologize.
26:03 - I'm sorry.
26:05 - Apology accepted.
26:06 - Thank you.
26:07 - What did you think, Greg?
26:08 - I think it's, I'm conflicted.
26:12 I'm conflicted because I like everything
26:16 that you guys said you liked, and I'm just,
26:21 I guess I fluctuate so much.
26:24 I thought that my connection to Sabine and Ahsoka
26:27 in particular, finally was coming in play last episode,
26:31 and then here was kind of lost again.
26:35 'Cause there's so much of this, something happened
26:38 between them off screen, you know?
26:40 Like, I think even if you're a Rebels fan, you know?
26:43 - No, we're missing a cat.
26:44 - I've seen Rebels, and I'm like,
26:46 well, a lot of that's been off screen.
26:48 And they just, they do a lot of this John Wick-like dialogue
26:51 which is cool in a movie, but we're watching
26:54 a television series, like this whole shrouded
26:58 in mystery type of dialogue stuff.
27:01 Like, okay, a lot of it's just, I need more meat here.
27:05 I need more substance here.
27:07 And it's like, stoic is not bad.
27:11 I don't think stoic is bad, but it can feel a little dull,
27:16 if I'm being honest, in terms of their dynamic, right?
27:19 Because there's a lot of really interesting things
27:21 that are happening here.
27:23 I feel like the Merrick thing is something
27:24 that will probably put people up in arms.
27:27 - We can talk about that.
27:29 - Yeah, we'll talk about that.
27:30 Yeah, we'll touch on that.
27:32 We'll talk about Anakin and all that.
27:34 And yeah, I mean, like, I guess I am at a point
27:39 with this show, there's four episodes.
27:41 How many are there, eight?
27:42 There's eight?
27:43 - Yeah. - Okay.
27:44 - I think there are eight.
27:45 - Six or eight, something like that, right?
27:45 - Yeah, it's just six word trouble.
27:47 - Because I feel like four, they,
27:52 it seemed like the conversation with Baelin and Ahsoka
27:54 was the thing that they're trying to set up for Ahsoka,
27:56 which is going after her past, right?
27:59 And I kind of feel like in terms of writing
28:02 and doing a story about a character,
28:05 the title character Ahsoka, the emotional depth to her
28:09 is not really something that's truly been set up
28:13 in this show.
28:14 It's like they've had like a line here or there,
28:16 but in terms of focus, in terms of emphasis,
28:20 in terms of being an audience member connected
28:23 to the journey that she's supposed to go on
28:25 on this show, isolated, not factoring in
28:28 the countless episodes of Clone Wars
28:30 and then her appearances in Rebels and Tales of the Jedi,
28:33 like all this shit, it's just going off of this show alone.
28:36 And I feel like what they're setting up
28:39 is that she has guilt towards stuff that's happened.
28:43 Like she's saying, I'm not here to talk about the past,
28:46 just trying to solve a problem here.
28:47 All this shit with Anakin of her leaving him behind
28:52 because like the last sequence of events with Anakin
28:55 did not go down that well.
28:56 Like she did not, she left, she was disillusioned
28:59 by the Jedi order.
29:00 And then as Ahsoka in Rebels, she fights Darth Vader,
29:05 you know, and it comes to the realization of that.
29:07 And then pulled between the world between worlds.
29:10 There's this whole thing here where I understand
29:12 why she could probably have a lot of pain in her
29:15 and have this issues with trust and whatnot.
29:18 But that's a lot of me going in there with a lot of canon
29:22 and a lot of other shit that I'm not implying myself.
29:25 And so like when I say I'm at a crossroads here,
29:29 it's because I'm a Star Wars fan
29:32 and I know all this information.
29:35 And it's more so how is this being communicated
29:37 in terms of this medium and this specific story
29:42 they're trying to tell?
29:42 Because right now I do feel it's a bit of a void
29:45 when it comes to what they're pitching
29:48 as the heart of the story, which is Ahsoka and Sabine.
29:51 And that right there, I just don't feel much for.
29:53 And then for Ahsoka's own personal story,
29:56 I'm like, I don't really feel much for that.
29:58 I'm excited at the prospect of live action
30:02 because Anakin Skywalker adapting to Clone Wars
30:05 was meant to look like hating Christians.
30:06 And so it's cool, like, oh shit,
30:08 we're gonna see Ahsoka and Anakin
30:11 interacting with each other.
30:13 That's fucking awesome.
30:14 Like, no doubt, that's really cool to me.
30:16 I don't care what crazy-
30:18 - Will it be able to achieve what you're talking about
30:21 is the question.
30:23 - Yeah, it's 'cause it's like
30:24 they didn't really set us up or build.
30:26 I don't feel like they really built to that,
30:29 whatever it is.
30:29 - I think there's a, like-
30:33 - Did you guys go and go,
30:34 I feel like I was just like 10 shit to that.
30:36 - No, no, no, no, no, no.
30:37 (laughing)
30:39 - You go first, Mike.
30:40 - Yeah, sorry.
30:41 I'm just holding in a lot of things right now.
30:44 - I think there is a critical mistake that was made.
30:51 The first episode of this show, in my opinion,
30:55 should have taken place during the original apprenticeship
31:00 with Sabine and Ahsoka.
31:03 I think that we should have seen them jiving,
31:06 having a good time,
31:07 and then we should have seen that like Obi-Wan and Anakin,
31:10 that there is a little bit of friction and stuff.
31:14 And then the siege of Mandalore,
31:15 which I'm assuming that where the dot connects here
31:18 and like where they're hoping that we assume
31:20 is that everything that we know about
31:21 the destruction of Mandalore
31:22 is when her family was killed.
31:24 It's a great way to tie it all in together
31:27 and then kind of pick it up from there
31:29 where we've spent a little bit of time
31:31 with these characters in this dynamic
31:32 because even though we've seen all of the content,
31:36 we're still left in the dark
31:39 in terms of like this dynamic in this relationship.
31:42 Like they didn't really have anything in Rebels.
31:45 - They barely interacted.
31:47 - Yeah, exactly.
31:47 - Yeah, and so-
31:48 - Even if you're like, I've seen Rebel,
31:49 I'm like, well, Ahsoka and Sabine
31:51 didn't really like talk to each other that often.
31:53 - And that's like, and I think that's hard
31:56 because you have a character that has so much nuance
32:01 in her relationships in the form of Ahsoka,
32:04 and yet she hasn't interacted
32:06 with any of the other characters
32:08 that she would have that dynamic with.
32:10 And I think that that's just kind of,
32:15 it gets to the heart of not just this series issue,
32:20 but I think kind of across the board is that
32:24 it almost kind of feels like too little, too late.
32:29 Like the need for that comprehensive story
32:33 that is easy and linear to follow for people
32:36 and in live action, like there was a window for that
32:40 and that window is closed.
32:41 And now we have this very like confused hodgepodge,
32:44 like timeline wise, I'm just like constantly confused
32:47 and I'm theoretically, I know my stuff
32:51 when it comes to Star Wars.
32:52 So, I don't know how to rescue that dynamic
32:57 in that relationship.
32:58 - I feel like this is a lot of cool,
33:00 like what it's serving in terms of man,
33:03 I think it's serving a lot of cool lore.
33:07 I think it's a lot of lore building,
33:08 it's a lot of world expansion,
33:10 it's a lot of world building and history building
33:14 and whatnot.
33:16 But at the end of the day, in terms of its story,
33:19 I'm like, wow, everything aesthetically and tonally,
33:22 I'm like, this is everything that should be,
33:24 just this should be peak Star Wars for me.
33:28 But I'm constantly like, and it's just so strange.
33:35 I'm not gonna write the show off
33:36 because there's so much about it I've loved.
33:38 - Yeah. - Yeah.
33:39 But then by the time we get to here,
33:41 I'm like, this is like the big climax
33:44 of a lot of these characters converging.
33:45 I think that's why the problem comes in.
33:47 You got Merrick fighting Ahsoka
33:50 and then it's like, what the fuck's there?
33:52 You got Shin fighting Sabine and Sabine making the choice.
33:57 And I think what happened with me,
34:02 weirdly, when it started to lose me in this episode
34:05 was when they were talking about,
34:07 I know how much Ezra means to you and stuff.
34:08 And I'm like, but shut the fuck up.
34:13 - This Ahsoka's show hasn't done anything
34:16 to really establish Ezra.
34:19 - No, it was.
34:21 - I'm like, that's kind of weird
34:22 that you have to really set up.
34:24 - I feel less excited. - I think there would be
34:26 a way to do it and to get the people
34:29 who have seen everything comprehensively,
34:31 as well as the people like me who have only seen
34:33 scattered episodes of these shows here or there.
34:35 I feel like you could have laced a lot of,
34:37 through the characters we care about who are on screen,
34:40 you can care about people who are not on screen.
34:42 You don't even need to do a flashback to do that.
34:44 And this episode brought me to a place
34:47 that I've heard people complain about
34:48 for "The Mandalorian" up until this point.
34:50 And I finally started to feel with that show
34:52 about season three, where it's like,
34:53 I can feel the writing kind of spinning wheels
34:56 and not really, I admire when people set something up
35:01 and instead of being like, but we're gonna push that out,
35:04 we're just gonna keep hinting.
35:05 I feel like this has learned bad lessons
35:07 from the J.J. Abrams mystery box theory of like,
35:10 I get it, there's a bunch of mumbo jumbo,
35:12 but nothing is all that tangible to make me really care
35:16 about wanting to see the answer to those mysteries.
35:18 And I think you could solve that problem
35:20 without having to mainline a whole bunch
35:25 of thousands of hours of other things.
35:27 And I can feel them pulling or saving punches
35:30 when I'm like, Sabine and Ahsoka should already have had
35:33 some kind of big old back and forth talk or something.
35:37 There's so many ways to approach it.
35:38 And I feel like they're going for vibe,
35:40 they're going for cool imagery, they're going for some lore,
35:42 but they're really kind of dawdling
35:44 in terms of actual storytelling that you might care about.
35:47 And this whole thing up until this point,
35:49 as of this episode has felt like some extended prologue
35:52 to me where like, I should have seen some kind of team form
35:56 or some kind of dynamic should have been established.
35:59 But again, the most solid dynamic on screen
36:02 is literally Bailin and Shin.
36:05 You know, and kind of Elisabeth.
36:08 And that's all stuff that too, again,
36:09 from more of the outside, I'm like,
36:11 ancient witch order, awesome.
36:12 I am already interested.
36:14 You know, Jedi who are sort of in the middle
36:17 and one is clearly fallen more since,
36:19 one is clearly fallen more toward the light side.
36:22 Fascinating.
36:23 But then they, even Ahsoka meeting Bailin
36:26 and having that face off was kind of a bummer
36:30 at the end of it because I was like,
36:32 oh, this is gonna be a scene.
36:34 And it was like a half a fight, you know, which was cool.
36:38 But yeah, I just don't think that they're really
36:40 biting into all this stuff that they've laid out
36:43 onto the table, you know.
36:44 It's kind of interesting that the characters
36:46 that we assumed were gonna be like the real meat
36:49 and potatoes have turned out to be the like broccoli.
36:54 Yeah, man.
36:55 And for Hera, like, I don't know a ton about Hera,
36:59 but I feel like I would be bummed if I did
37:01 because she's just been like in the background
37:04 driving around this whole time.
37:05 Yeah, she's been not as interesting as I had hoped.
37:07 Yeah, she's just like bickering with people,
37:09 but politics and them driving around.
37:11 Everyone has had like an isolated moment or two
37:14 where you're like, that's a great scene.
37:16 But in terms of their long gestating,
37:19 like honestly, it's these fallen Jedi characters.
37:22 They're the best ones.
37:24 They're the Shin and Bailin.
37:26 They're the most dynamic and they're the most compelling.
37:30 And they both have like all that life and presence
37:33 even when they're not speaking.
37:33 Yeah, I love them.
37:34 But okay, what's the Merrick theory?
37:38 See them in the Merrick theory.
37:39 We got it, I feel like we've made our point.
37:41 Yeah, I think-
37:41 We're at crossroads.
37:42 I feel like we were obviously very negative
37:45 on our emotional side here, yeah.
37:47 Well, I think the Merrick...
37:49 Listen, there was always the very high likelihood
37:53 that it was nobody.
37:55 That's why I thought it was hilarious.
37:57 I do think, no, that was the funny, you know,
37:59 it definitely did look like Dathomir magic
38:02 that was coming out of that green,
38:03 but also literally could have just been
38:05 like a gaseous inquisitor, who knows.
38:08 But you know, that's Star Wars for you.
38:10 Like, I mean, think about how much time
38:14 like the internet spent sleuthing being like,
38:16 who is Snoke?
38:17 Turns out he's just Snoke, you know?
38:20 He's just the clone thing.
38:21 Like-
38:22 I've made nothing, it's a little bit more.
38:26 If they don't explain what that is,
38:29 I think that is bullshit.
38:31 Not because it's not Star Killer,
38:33 not because it's not Barriss,
38:35 not because it's not Ezra.
38:37 Why I think it's bullshit is because it is an...
38:42 Literally the whole embodiment is an inquisitor.
38:45 It's an inquisitor with this dual lightsaber.
38:48 And then even like on screen,
38:51 when he first shows up or it shows up,
38:53 it's like, oh, it poses it in a way of like,
38:57 who is this?
38:58 - Yes.
38:59 - You know, and like,
39:00 oh, I thought the inquisitors were dead.
39:02 And everyone on the team that they're focusing on
39:04 is important.
39:05 And if they don't explain what that is,
39:09 then it's bullshit.
39:11 - Shin, Shin.
39:11 - Yeah, it's been a year.
39:13 - Shin definitely cared a lot.
39:16 Like that much was evident,
39:17 which gives me a little bit of hope
39:19 that we'll go back and explore it.
39:20 - Yeah, I think it'll come back.
39:21 - Maybe like on the ship while they're flying.
39:23 - They made a moment out of it, yeah.
39:24 - Exactly.
39:26 You know, I think there is always kind of the one rumor
39:30 that I kind of brushed off,
39:31 but who knows of,
39:33 it could have been during the, yes.
39:37 Anti-Semitic inquisitor.
39:39 But during the temple sequence,
39:45 when all the inquisitors and rebels,
39:48 you know, when they're like flying around
39:49 with their little helicopter lightsabers,
39:51 which we're just gonna pretend that never happened,
39:53 'cause it was ridiculous.
39:54 But it was theorized that it was one of them
40:00 who then was like resurrected by the Dathomir witches,
40:03 which makes sense, like that she might.
40:06 - Why would she?
40:07 - Oh, she needs dark side centric force.
40:10 - Too much.
40:11 Everyone predicted cooler things
40:12 than there was a big cloud of dust.
40:14 - Listen, if it, actually,
40:17 can we check the credits really quick
40:19 to see if they finally said who it was playing him?
40:22 - Yeah, they said it.
40:23 - Was it Sam?
40:24 - Peter, no, no, it wasn't Sam Whitworth.
40:27 It was some name I've never heard of before.
40:30 - Wow, that grinds my gears.
40:32 (laughing)
40:33 - Peter Griffin, Inquisitor Griffin.
40:36 - I don't know.
40:37 - It's all right, I'm disappointed if I don't care anymore.
40:41 Either way, listen, we get to see Anakin,
40:44 so at a minimum, we get that.
40:46 And if that's all we get, then that's fine.
40:49 I do--
40:51 - Here, I got it on the app.
40:53 - This is my account, Magic of Technology.
40:56 Aligning this, wait.
40:59 - I'll tell you right now.
41:00 - While we build suspense here.
41:05 - It's also interesting that they didn't credit him prior.
41:10 Like they--
41:11 - All right, be quiet.
41:12 Paul Darnell.
41:13 - What the hell is Paul Darnell?
41:16 Is he a stunt guy?
41:16 - I'm just looking them up.
41:18 - Paul Darnell.
41:20 Sorry, Paul.
41:21 - He's a stunt guy.
41:22 - Ahsoka.
41:23 Who was Paul one hour ago?
41:25 - Ooh.
41:27 Uh-huh.
41:28 Uh-huh.
41:30 Uh-huh.
41:33 - Is a stunt man who plays and maybe even voices.
41:36 Voicing him.
41:38 - I don't think he voiced him,
41:40 unless he comes back in his own form to be an actor too.
41:44 - He's been a Redguard before.
41:47 - Sure.
41:48 - All right, yeah.
41:50 Congratulations, everyone.
41:51 - Well.
41:52 - Yeah.
41:53 - And he was a cloud of black smoke as a child.
41:55 - This is the life of a Star Wars fan.
41:57 - Yeah.
41:58 - And I'm not hurt because I signed up for it.
42:02 - I don't, I mean, it's annoying if we don't learn,
42:05 but I'm not gonna be annoyed until--
42:07 - I'm not learning.
42:08 - Until episode eight.
42:09 Unless, if episode eight comes around
42:11 and we don't know jack about it,
42:13 then I'm gonna be like, "That's annoying."
42:14 - Yeah.
42:15 - But right now I'm not gonna be annoyed.
42:16 - Maybe he'll be in the world between worlds.
42:18 - I'm more like, before episode's in,
42:21 I gotta care a little bit more for this point.
42:25 - What if all is in the world between worlds?
42:27 - That's fine, I'm not, I'm done.
42:28 (laughing)
42:30 I'm done.
42:31 - Every character we wanna see is in the world
42:33 between worlds.
42:33 - I'm done.
42:34 - That was a joke for the record.
42:35 - I want, I care, and I'm hoping that next episode
42:40 is truly an emotionally core-focused episode about Ahsoka.
42:45 - Yeah.
42:46 - Because, you know, like right now, I don't know,
42:49 like I thought Sabine Wren should have been
42:52 the lead of Star Wars Rebels, personally.
42:55 She was the best character to me,
42:57 and she should have been the lead to me.
42:59 But then her translation for this show,
43:02 I'm like, it's a good actress, but the writing is just--
43:06 - It's not there.
43:07 - It's not there, it's not there.
43:10 It has not been--
43:10 - It's very thin.
43:11 - It has not been there, and I'm like,
43:14 your intrigue button is not pushing it for me right now.
43:17 - It's not.
43:18 - And I think the issue is Sabine as a character
43:20 grew so much during Rebels, and I feel like
43:24 the Sabine that we got is like right back to square one.
43:27 - I hated the line about your family,
43:30 is your family, like, "Haro's right there."
43:33 (laughing)
43:34 - Yeah, you literally just shouted for her.
43:36 - Are you kidding?
43:37 - She's risking her career to see you.
43:38 - And like, and you would think after like the relationship
43:42 with all this Rebels connection that they rely on,
43:45 that with the connection that she had with Kanan,
43:50 Sabine, that she'd wanna know Jason a little bit.
43:53 (laughing)
43:55 It's just like fucking, shit like that is just,
44:00 I don't know, I think the show is at a crossroads
44:05 because of the exact problem of,
44:08 well, I just wanna tell my sequel to Rebels,
44:12 but a lot of people haven't seen Rebels,
44:15 so I gotta tell something that can still be accessible,
44:18 so I gotta kinda write things down the middle
44:21 so I don't left people feeling left out,
44:22 but then now I'm missing nuance because I can't--
44:25 - Give us enough color and flavor that it makes people
44:28 go to the anime that shows.
44:29 - And now we're in the world of Jim Rolls
44:30 and now people who haven't seen Rebels
44:32 have no idea what the hell's going on here.
44:33 - You can't do this in a way that compels those people
44:36 to go watch it.
44:37 - And I think we would care about her looking for Ezra
44:42 if we cared more about, it doesn't even matter
44:46 if we know Ezra or not.
44:47 What matters is how much it would mean,
44:49 like when they're having that line of,
44:51 you can't just tell me how much Ezra means.
44:55 I'm like, you gotta have a scene
44:56 where I fucking feel that shit
44:58 and I feel nothing when you say that.
45:01 - 'Cause right now it just feels like,
45:02 action guy has family, needs to go get them.
45:05 - And honestly, the little hologram that they showed
45:08 of Ezra made me kinda not wanna see Ezra.
45:10 (laughing)
45:12 It's like, this guy's a little punk.
45:15 - Whatever, we still haven't seen Thrawn.
45:18 I'm excited for Thrawn.
45:20 - And honestly, I think what I'm concerned about is that.
45:25 - They're gonna save him for season two.
45:27 - But what if the writing doesn't?
45:31 - I think we're gonna get a lot of rich, philosophical,
45:36 cool bars from Thrawn.
45:38 (laughing)
45:39 - I'll take it.
45:41 - That's what we're gonna get.
45:42 Guys, what did you think about this episode?
45:44 I like the action, I like the visuals, I like the tone,
45:47 but yeah, we're looking at three
45:49 very conflicted fans right now.
45:51 Haven't written it off, haven't made a decision
45:53 on the show yet, still got four episodes to go.
45:55 - It has time, still rooting for it.
45:56 - Let's see what happens.
45:57 Leave your thoughts down below
45:59 and we'll talk to you guys soon.
46:00 Thanks for being here.
