Simon Byrne resigns as PSNI chief following controversies

Simon Byrne has stepped down as chief constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) with immediate effect. It comes after a month of controversies for the force, and an emergency meeting of the Policing Board last week. Mr Byrne has been under pressure following a major data breach from the PSNI in early August. Last week, a high court judge ruled two junior officers were unlawfully disciplined for an arrest made at a Troubles commemoration in 2021. Report by Jonesia.
