00:00 Can artificial intelligence help find your perfect match?
00:03 Dating apps have been embracing AI for a while.
00:06 Now Tinder, the world's biggest online dating platform,
00:09 is expanding its offerings too.
00:12 The app is now testing a tool to help users
00:14 select their best-looking photos.
00:17 But that's just one example of developers
00:20 promising us better dating luck
00:22 with the help of digital technologies.
00:25 There are downsides to this trend, of course,
00:27 but could AI become your 21st century Cupid?
00:30 Tinder is working on a number of
00:36 artificial intelligence initiatives
00:38 to make dating more rewarding.
00:40 What they mean is more good dates with less effort.
00:44 Tinder's parent company, Match Group,
00:46 says it's working on a tool that looks through
00:48 a user's photo album to select the five images
00:51 that represent them best.
00:53 I'm curious to see which criteria the AI would use
00:56 to pick my pictures.
00:58 Unfortunately, there's no public testing yet.
01:01 According to Bernard Kim, the CEO of Match Group,
01:04 AI dating tools are supposed to eliminate awkwardness.
01:07 After all, curating a profile that says,
01:10 "I'm awesome," "I could be the love of your life,"
01:13 and "I'm humble," feels nearly impossible.
01:16 Tinder already has other projects in the pipeline
01:18 to fix that problem.
01:20 At the moment, select users can test a generative AI tool
01:24 to enhance their profiles.
01:25 It can create individual bios based on interests
01:29 and relationship goals the user has added.
01:31 It sounds pretty convenient, but do we really want that?
01:35 Making dating more efficient?
01:37 According to a recent study conducted in the UK,
01:41 only a third of dating app users would be open
01:44 to using AI to enhance their profiles.
01:46 Putting yourself out there seems to be a job
01:49 that's a little too delicate for AI to handle.
01:52 But the users surveyed had nothing against using AI
01:55 in other parts of the dating process.
01:57 75% of all dating app users said they would explore
02:01 using ChatGPT to deliver the perfect opening line.
02:05 With people being willing to use AI
02:06 to improve their chances in the dating world,
02:09 app developers are coming up with new ideas.
02:12 Dating app Teaser AI, for example,
02:14 lets you chat with an AI version of someone
02:16 before you swipe right or left on them.
02:19 And with Blush, you can work on your relationship
02:21 and intimacy skills by flirting with the app's chatbots.
02:25 Other companies are working on bots
02:26 that even do the swiping and initial banding
02:29 for you automatically.
02:31 The downsides.
02:33 Many AI models currently store the information
02:37 users give them on servers in order to keep on learning
02:40 and ultimately improve a user's experience.
02:43 But when it comes to love,
02:45 you're no doubt going to get personal.
02:47 And that means giving up a lot of intimate information.
02:50 So even if platforms like Tinder promise
02:52 to not give your data to third parties
02:54 for hackers, it's a very tempting target.
02:57 If your private data falls into the wrong hands,
03:00 there's huge potential to cause you harm.
03:02 And then there's the issue of romance scammers.
03:05 These are criminals who feign romantic interest
03:07 to gain the victim's affection.
03:09 They then use that goodwill to get the victim
03:12 to send money under false pretenses or to commit fraud.
03:16 According to the US security organization, FBI,
03:19 victims from such scams in the United States
03:21 reported financial losses of almost 740 million US dollars
03:26 in 2022.
03:27 Experts argue that AI could supercharge
03:30 these wrongful practices and enable criminals
03:33 to carry out tailored and automated scams on a huge scale.
03:37 What do you think?
03:38 Will AI make online dating even more difficult
03:41 or will we all benefit from an AI-induced ego boost?
03:45 Let us know.
