00:00 It's a historic moment. For the first time in history, the African Union has summoned
00:04 its leaders for a conversation fully devoted to climate change. Now, that's incredibly important
00:10 because despite contributing to just 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions,
00:14 Africa is the worst hit by climate crisis. But African Union leaders are hoping to show
00:21 that they are not victims and that Africa can provide valuable solutions to tackle climate
00:27 change. One of those solutions is scaling up renewable energy. Africa has a huge potential
00:33 for renewable energy. It's capable of producing up to 40% of the world's solar power. Today,
00:39 it only produces 1%. So the resources are there, the potential is definitely there.
00:44 What is needed now is to transfer those resources, that potential into tangible assets. And for that,
00:51 a huge amount of funding and financing is needed, which is why the topic of how to finance these
00:57 commitments will be at the forefront of discussions over the next few days. So the aim is really to
01:02 gain momentum, to create a fairer international financial system and to put forward a united
01:09 African voice when it comes to climate issues ahead of COP28 that will take place in Dubai in November.
