00:00 It's an exciting time in Sydney right now with the Fringe Festival now underway.
00:12 There is just so much to choose from, but today we're getting a brief glimpse into
00:17 one of the shows in the program.
00:19 This is Radiohead Uncovered and we're joined by musical director Judy Stubbs.
00:24 Thanks so much for joining us.
00:26 Tell us a little bit about what this show is all about.
00:28 Well, I guess as the name suggests, Radiohead Uncovered.
00:32 Firstly, I've always loved Radiohead's music since I first heard it.
00:36 And so it's about uncovering the beauty in that music through original arrangements and
00:41 our interpretation of the songs.
00:44 And you know, particularly these newer albums where people might find them a little bit
00:48 tricky, they're such beautiful music and so we've got our own reimagining of those.
00:55 Uncovered too, because they're not really covers.
00:56 They're really trying to reimagine that music.
00:59 And how to disappear completely?
01:01 It's very much about, I guess the message that Tom Yorke's always put out, which is
01:05 about an artist disappearing into their music.
01:08 Like it's not about the ego.
01:10 It's really about the music itself, the beauty of that, the beauty of the films and so on
01:15 that we'll be showing.
01:17 And so yeah, I think that we can disappear into that like Radiohead often does into their
01:21 music.
01:22 Yeah, so myself I know about two Radiohead songs.
01:25 Do you have to be a diehard Radiohead fan to enjoy this show?
01:30 No, you don't have to be a Radiohead fan at all.
01:33 Firstly, I think I was always a bit nervous I think about this because my reinterpretation
01:37 of those songs, I wanted them to be true to the songs, but also to reimagine them.
01:42 So I think, at least I'm hoping that people who love Radiohead like I do will find something
01:47 new in it.
01:48 For people who have never heard of Radiohead, in fact, there are quite a few people who
01:51 have come to some of our shows in Canberra, for example.
01:55 You know, they were just really amazed by the music and they want to go and find out
02:00 more.
02:01 So I hope that people fall in love with the music as I did so long ago.
02:05 Thanks so much Judy.
02:06 Best of luck with the shows and Radiohead Uncovered is part of the sideshow program
02:11 in The Rocks in Sydney and that runs every Thursday to Sunday throughout the month of
02:16 September.
02:17 God loves his children.
02:22 Kerry thanks so much for joining us.
02:23 It's your tenth year directing this festival.
02:26 What makes this year so different?
02:28 Well I feel like we've dialled it up a notch this year.
02:31 We're building big and bold activations.
02:33 So we've got tents, we've got a festival garden, we've got pop-up spaces like this and it's
02:37 all across Greater Sydney.
02:39 And so what should Sydney audiences expect and what's the theme this year?
02:43 Well the theme is 'Paint the Town Pink'.
02:45 Pink is Fringe's colour, we had it before Barbie.
02:48 But this year we're asking Sydney audiences to get out of their house and have a great
02:51 time and support local artists.
02:53 So we want the whole city to be alive in festival buzz.
02:57 Well Sydney Fringe Festival runs until the 30th of September and the full program is
03:02 available on their website to check out exactly what's on offer.
