The Hill Movie Behind the Scenes
Transcript
00:00 The Hill is a true story, and I love doing true stories,
00:04 because they're unbelievable.
00:06 And Ricky's got a very unique story.
00:09 Ricky, I've seen you out there swinging that stick,
00:16 even when you're suffering pain.
00:18 But you can't play baseball.
00:20 You're gonna get ridiculed,
00:22 and you're gonna wind up with an injury that you'll never get over.
00:27 But all I want to do is play. When I swing that bat,
00:30 I ain't crippled no more.
00:32 And gone! Senior Ricky Hill.
00:36 He had a handicap. His spine was bent.
00:41 Your bones are rapidly depleting.
00:43 It'll be a miracle if you ever walk again.
00:45 Ricky's father was a preacher,
00:48 and he really had these dreams of his son becoming a preacher as well.
00:54 You seen this? Major League Trials.
00:57 You're gonna paralyze him.
00:58 I don't need you filling him full of false hope.
01:01 He's my son.
01:02 One of the themes is overcoming your weaknesses and turning them into strengths.
01:08 He did four homers in one game.
01:11 He had an incredible skill and gift for hitting a baseball.
01:16 Your plan to join the elite.
01:19 I'm one of the best hitters you're ever gonna see.
01:23 Well, I first received the script almost four years ago.
01:26 It was so attractive for me as an actor,
01:29 and I wanted to bring his story to life and bring truth to it.
01:32 What has gotten into you?
01:34 He's special.
01:35 They said he will never walk and he ran.
01:38 How many miracles do you need?
01:41 I love the script, and it was about the resilience of the human spirit,
01:45 and I think we need that right now in the world.
01:47 There's an authenticity to this film.
01:50 It's your time, Ricky!
01:53 It's simplicity.
