00:00 Apple has released a new Apple Watch every year since the original.
00:03 So unless the company decides to break tradition this year, the Apple Watch Series 9 will be
00:08 announced in late summer or early fall of 2023. I'm guessing it'll come with upgrades for health
00:13 tracking, communication, and safety. It could also sport a different design or exclusive features
00:19 thanks to watchOS 10. That's just the overview, let's get into the actual rumors.
00:28 The Apple Watch Series 9 release date or announcement date seems like it'll be either
00:33 September 12th or September 13th. Apple really likes that second full week of the month.
00:38 I've seen reports backing both of those dates, but reliable Apple tipster Mark Gurman from
00:43 Bloomberg said September 12th is the date to watch. Either way, we'll get invitations
00:47 approximately two weeks before the event is scheduled for, so it's not long until we know.
00:51 When we finally do see the Apple Watch Series 9, the design might seem kind of meh.
00:57 Gurman had said that the Apple Watch Series 9 update will be anything but major. The tipster
01:02 went on to say that we can expect a more modest year for the flagship Apple Watch model. So,
01:07 chances are the design will be mostly unchanged compared to the previous years. We'll probably
01:13 get two size options in a variety of colors. The big question, is the next Apple Watch coming in
01:18 a new color? The next gen version could be offered in a pink finish according to one leaker. The
01:23 result of Barbie mania? I can only hope. Let's talk about what will be inside the watch. The
01:29 Apple Watch processor hasn't received a true performance upgrade since the Apple Watch Series 6,
01:34 but that's rumored to be changing for the Apple Watch Series 9. Not only did a recent Weibo post
01:39 claim that the Series 9 will improve the performance, Mark Gurman also said that the
01:44 next watch will receive a fairly sizable performance bump. The new processor could
01:48 be equipped to handle the new widget-based SmartStack system in WatchOS 10.
01:53 Speaking of WatchOS 10, we've already seen all of the major software changes that are coming to
01:58 existing Apple Watch devices, but Apple does have a tendency to announce another feature or two with
02:03 new hardware. The example for that with the Apple Watch Series 8 was the reveal of low power mode.
02:08 Last year also saw the reveal of the Apple Watch Ultra, a sports watch with the biggest screen and
02:14 longest battery life of any Apple Watch yet. We've seen multiple reports about the Apple Watch Ultra
02:19 2 being in the works, bringing upgrades to the original. For one, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 may
02:24 feature a micro LED display according to Gurman. There's also rumors about a more lightweight
02:29 design thanks to 3D printed parts plus a possible dark titanium finish. Otherwise, there might not
02:35 be much new it probably won't be worth upgrading to, especially if you bought the $799 watch already.
02:41 Also heard that the Apple Watch SE won't be refreshed this year, but it'll stick around
02:46 as the value Apple Watch model starting at $250, though you can usually find it for less since it's
02:52 been available for nearly a year now. I know there aren't very many Apple Watch Series 9 rumors to
02:58 work with, Apple does a pretty good job at keeping all of these things underwrapped. I mean, that does
03:03 make for some fun surprises at the actual event, but we will still be tracking all of the tips and
03:08 leaks for Apple's upcoming smartwatch as well as the iPhone 15 family at Tom's Guide.com. We also
03:14 break some news on our social channels so be sure to check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
