The new TCL QM8 Mini LED TV could be one of 2023’s most surprising sets. As one of the manufacturer’s most premium TVs yet, the QM8 could become the ultimate rival to Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs and other high-end offerings.

00:02 Could TCL have one of the most exciting TVs of 2023?
00:06 Of course, I'm talking about the TCL QM8 Mini LED TV.
00:11 I'm one of the first people to go hands-on with it
00:12 here at CES, so let's go take a closer look.
00:15 (upbeat music)
00:17 Looking here at the TCL QM8,
00:24 this is TCL's flagship 4K TV for 2023.
00:29 Mini LED technology is kind of considered
00:32 the best for average consumers.
00:34 You know, we've seen a lot of really premium TVs
00:36 going up to micro LED, QD OLED.
00:38 It's mini LED that a lot of people are enjoying
00:41 because it has this high brightness abilities
00:44 as well as deep color volume.
00:46 If you're watching somewhere that has a lot of open light,
00:49 such as a living room, you really can't beat mini LED.
00:52 So if we wanna get specific about the improvements
00:57 with this TV over TCL's previous gen mini LED TVs,
01:00 you're looking at twice the peak brightness
01:02 and up to five times more local dimming zones.
01:06 The thing that might be the most exciting
01:08 about the QM8 is its size options.
01:10 What we have here is a 98 inch size of the QM8 TV.
01:15 What's exciting about that is TCL is known
01:18 for competitive pricing.
01:20 Again, this is upbringing too many LED TVs,
01:22 so it might not be as affordable
01:23 as some of its lower tier sets,
01:25 but there is a chance this might be
01:27 one of the more affordable large screen TVs
01:29 that you'll be able to find this year.
01:31 Of course, on a screen this size,
01:34 you're gonna get the most benefits
01:35 out of mini LED's picture performance
01:38 with the addition of the quantum dot filter.
01:41 TCL's TV has something called
01:42 the AIPQ upscaling engine too,
01:44 so even if you're watching something
01:46 that's coming through the TV in lower resolution,
01:48 this should upscale it so that you're really getting
01:51 to enjoy crisp details, great quality on the TV this size.

01:58 Obviously, we're going to need to get the QM8 in our lab
02:02 to see just how well it truly performs
02:04 compared to Samsung's Neo QLED TVs,
02:06 that's their mini LED technology.
02:08 In the meantime, the one question
02:10 that really remains for me here is the operating system.
02:12 TCL says it's still working with both RoFu
02:14 and Google with their OS's.
02:16 It's not yet announced which one
02:18 will be available for the QM8.
02:20 But the set's on pace to come out
02:22 before the end of Q2 in 2023,
02:24 so it won't be long until we find out.
02:26 Gotta say, it's really exciting to see TCL
02:29 upping its mini LED TV game for 2023.
02:32 Of course, we're covering all the exciting TV launches
02:35 here at CES, so be sure you're following
