14th Amendment Threatens Trump's Comeback

Liberal groups and legal experts argue that a rarely used clause in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment prevents Donald Trump from being eligible to run for president again after the Jan. 6th attack on the US Capitol. The clause bars people who engaged in "insurrection or rebellion" against the US from holding federal office. Two law professors, one conservative and one liberal, wrote a law review article concluding that Trump is barred from office under this clause due to his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results and encourage supporters to storm the Capitol. If any state were to block Trump from their ballot, his campaign would likely sue and the issue could end up before the Supreme Court, possibly during primary season.
