00:00 soul of the show down. That's a good sign. Guys, this is one of the most important
00:05 days in live-action anime history. Maybe the most important day. As we have kind
00:11 of the goat of anime right now in one piece getting its live-action
00:16 adaptation debut here on Netflix. Now I have to be honest, I have to be honest, I
00:21 think it not being a weekly release is a very big missed opportunity. I think it
00:28 won't be relevant in a week's time which is unfortunate. It should
00:33 have been a week to week to carry momentum through to next week and people
00:37 talking about it week to week to help new people discover the series as the
00:41 series goes on and it keeps popping up on Twitter. This is gonna be one of those
00:45 things that after a week nobody's gonna be talking about anymore. Very similar to
00:49 Yasuke and a ton of other shows that went week that dropped all at one time
00:54 instead of week. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean. I don't understand why
00:58 Netflix does this and they put so much money into this series guys. Per episode
01:03 this was more than Game of Thrones which is kind of crazy. So I'm keeping my
01:09 fingers crossed and hoping that this is actually really good because that's
01:13 what's going to maintain the excitement and hopefully other you know producers
01:18 and studios will take a more serious look into creating good live-action
01:25 anime adaptations because we all know the stories are fantastic. So with this
01:30 being my number one anime of all time yes I've only watched the series one
01:34 time through so I'm not you know a person that's watched multiple viewings
01:37 of one piece. There's a lot of episodes but I am very excited about this. I hope
01:42 that it's good and we can move forward from this and keep building and building.
01:46 So oh let's get this thing popping bro.
01:53 [Music]
02:12 And thank you to everybody supporting over on the patreon for the uncut
02:16 reactions and also the phantom trooper you can get even more uncut reactions
02:20 and exclusive content that doesn't come here to YouTube. Links down below.
02:26 This is a world like no other one brimming with mystery and teeming with
02:33 danger. The voiceover? Hundreds of islands strewn. What's his name? I can't
02:39 forget the actors name. You know what I'm talking about though.
02:43 [Music]
02:45 Very nice. This is a world of pirates.
02:52 Okay nice music. Today we've made a great stride in that effort. Gold Roger, the so-called
03:04 king of the pirates. Very interesting because I believe in the anime and in
03:10 the manga it's Gold D Roger not Gold Roger but maybe the correct translation
03:16 is Gold Roger. I'm not sure. If you guys know let me know in the comments.
03:21 Gold Roger you have been sentenced to death for the crimes of piracy, thievery and
03:30 conspiracy against the world government. Take these off. Starting to itch.
03:37 I warned you. You brought this upon yourself. Forfeit! Where is your treasure?
03:47 Tell us where you hid it! I know that. Miha. Fame, power. I found everything this world has to offer.
03:57 Free yourselves. Take to the seas. My treasure is yours to find.
04:09 Okay.
04:11 Gold Rogers final words changed the world forever. Setting off a race across the seas to find the pirate Kings hidden treasure.
04:23 The One Piece.
04:25 Okay.
04:29 So yeah. The sea's been calling. Well not exactly calling because I pretty much can't swim.
04:37 I've said not to follow my dream.
04:41 Break the fourth wall.
04:43 Find the One Piece and become king of the pirates!
04:49 Nothing about ten men should do.
04:53 Ten men and a bird. It's not gonna be easy. The ocean is pretty big.
05:07 Mutiny.
05:09 Missed the bucket.
05:22 Nice.
05:24 But leave the crew to me. Let's show them what true terror looks like.
05:36 Okay I have to say it's bugging me that they keep looking at the camera. I'm sorry. I know it's probably not a big deal to you guys.
05:42 The breaking the fourth wall thing is really weird to me.
05:50 Where is the pirate hunter Roronoa Zoro? Don't deny he was on your ship.
05:56 He had a list of pirates and their bounties.
05:58 And of course I was at the top.
06:00 Actually your name wasn't on it.
06:03 Colby clean up this mess.
06:11 Who's the most powerful pirate on the seas?
06:14 Captain Albi.
06:16 No power.
06:18 No power.
06:20 No power.
06:22 Bitch you're not even top ten.
06:24 Colby.
06:26 He does look like Colby. He definitely does.
06:32 Jinx. He's back.
06:46 Flashback.
06:48 Read to see Shanks.
06:51 Ten years ago. Nice. So just so you guys know Shanks is my favorite character in 1B.
06:58 Not street urchin.
07:06 The sea isn't a child's game. It's dangerous.
07:10 Scars on my face are proof of that.
07:12 I can do it Shanks.
07:14 I want to take it easy on him Cap. He's got the family to speak of. The kid's on his own.
07:20 Better a disappointed kid now than a dead one later.
07:23 Put it down Luffy before you hurt yourself.
07:27 I'm not afraid of getting hurt. And I'll prove it to you.
07:35 Luffy.
07:36 Nothing's free about Alfeita's crew.
07:41 She tells me when to eat, when to sleep. She'll never let me go.
07:45 You should never let anyone tell you what you can't do.
07:48 If I did that, I never would have left my village to go find the Wampis.
07:54 Gold Roger's treasure.
07:58 Hundred foot waves and sea beasts that'll crush your bones.
08:02 Once you enter the Grand Line, you never return.
08:05 Sounds kind of fun.
08:07 Is that one of the sea beasts?
08:09 It's just Alfeita snoring.
08:11 Is that one of the sea beasts?
08:13 Girl, you sound like a sea beast.
08:16 A few days. North.
08:18 Which way is north?
08:20 Nah.
08:22 What the hell is going on?
08:23 Dare betray me to a bounty hunter.
08:25 No, that's not it at all.
08:26 And you. You're too scrawny to be Robonozoro.
08:29 I'm Mookie D, Luffy.
08:31 Never heard of you.
08:32 Well, remember the name.
08:34 'Cause I'm gonna be King of the Pirates.
08:36 You're you, Kobe?
08:40 Who's the most powerful pirate on the seas?
08:42 Answer me, you sniveling runt.
08:46 He doesn't have to.
08:48 Kobe's his own man.
08:50 No.
08:52 Ain't cool.
08:54 And you're as dumb as a sea cow.
08:56 No, Captain Alfeita, I do.
08:59 [Screaming]
09:01 What kind of a monster are you?
09:13 The stretchy kind.
09:15 Not the stretchy kind.
09:17 [Screaming]
09:27 [Screaming]
09:29 Gum! Gum!
09:33 Pistol!
09:38 [Screaming]
09:40 Yeah.
09:43 You're coming with me, right?
09:45 You're like, "What?"
09:49 Okay, that was a pretty cool sequence.
09:55 You could come out.
09:57 People often visit shrines to light candles for those they've lost.
10:02 What do you want?
10:05 You may call me Mr. Seven.
10:07 I represent an organization known as Baroque Works.
10:10 Membership would make you even more invincible, more feared.
10:16 Does it come with a free-face tattoo?
10:18 No.
10:19 My favorite is number one.
10:21 Turn down Baroque Works is to forfeit your life.
10:26 If they were that serious, they should have sent someone better than number seven.
10:30 Nah.
10:32 Okay.
10:38 Okay.
10:42 Okay.
10:48 Lights out.
10:50 Okay.
10:51 [Screaming]
10:55 Give me them guts.
10:57 Give me them guts!
10:59 Oh, so we showing blood now?
11:03 We showing body parts?
11:05 Okay.
11:06 We have that checked off.
11:08 Yes, sir. Let's continue.
11:10 Okay, I just had to say that.
11:13 I had to say--
11:14 Look.
11:15 We're gonna-- We'll compartmentalize some of my thoughts and things towards the end in terms of production stuff.
11:23 That's a whole different thing.
11:25 But just as a consumer of wanting the realness of this, I'm loving the fact that we're getting--
11:33 We got some gore in here.
11:34 You know what I'm saying?
11:35 It's not just a little kitty joint.
11:36 We got a body slice.
11:38 You know what I'm saying?
11:40 Okay.
11:41 And they-- Okay.
11:42 I'm with that.
11:44 Okay.
11:45 And Zora got a little sauce too.
11:47 Okay.
11:48 That's a bar and you didn't earn this one, bro.
12:13 You can't-- You can't take the shortcuts, bro.
12:16 That's a bar.
12:17 I'm telling y'all right now.
12:18 That's a bar.
12:19 You didn't earn this, bro.
12:20 And everybody knows it.
12:21 You gotta go through the trenches.
12:23 Nah.
12:42 Now, we know what that actually is now, boy.
12:45 You know what I'm saying?
12:46 Yee.
12:47 You're gonna see Shanks turn up real quick.
12:54 Blicky's out.
13:09 There's glass everywhere.
13:10 There's glass everywhere.
13:12 Okay, now.
13:13 I got a mop.
13:14 Come on, man.
13:22 Let's find the real boy.
13:25 You good, huh, Cotton?
13:28 You got a mop?
13:29 Why are you laughing?
13:36 Isn't that so dope, bro?
13:38 Like, they all know Shanks is one-- He's one of them ones.
13:41 So, you know-- And you know what's dope too, though, is this actor, he has-- He has this
13:45 chill demeanor.
13:46 So, I like that a lot.
13:48 I like it a lot, actually.
13:49 So, that's pretty cool.
13:51 (laughs)
13:52 (laughs)
14:18 Okay, so this is--
14:20 So, this is-- This is the difference, this one versus the actual-- Versus the actual animal.
14:26 I like how they're telling the story right now.
14:31 It's really dope.
14:32 Nope.
14:36 (laughs)
14:37 (laughs)
14:45 I don't know if he slapped him with his hand or his shmeet, bro.
14:48 I don't know what he smacked him with just now.
14:51 Nah.
14:54 Yep.
15:14 (laughs)
15:15 Ah, what up, mami?
15:33 (laughs)
15:39 (laughs)
15:40 Gotcha, bitch.
15:52 (laughs)
15:59 Yep.
16:03 Nami's the swindler of swindlers, bro.
16:07 Uh-huh.
16:08 (laughs)
16:21 What up, Zorro?
16:36 That dude got a whole half a body in there.
16:39 (laughs)
16:47 Mm-mm.
16:52 Nah.
17:06 (laughs)
17:07 Mm.
17:13 Mm.
17:22 (laughs)
17:26 (laughs)
17:30 This dude ugly though.
17:33 (laughs)
17:34 He got sauce, boy.
17:46 He got sauce, but not--
17:48 (laughs)
17:49 Okay.
17:54 Okay.
17:55 Okay.
18:00 Yep, there goes Nami.
18:02 (laughs)
18:03 (laughs)
18:08 Mm-hmm.
18:11 Nah.
18:16 Captain Morgan.
18:21 Captain Morgan.
18:22 (laughs)
18:47 Hi!
18:50 Hi!
18:51 Hi!
18:52 Father!
18:53 (laughs)
18:54 (laughs)
19:07 Mm-mm.
19:19 I can catch him in my sleep.
19:21 Mm-hmm.
19:27 Correct.
19:31 Correct!
19:33 Mm-hmm.
19:36 (laughs)
19:48 (laughs)
19:49 (laughs)
19:56 Getting on me, man.
20:13 They didn't.
20:17 (laughs)
20:18 (laughs)
20:25 (laughs)
20:45 You keep saying that.
20:47 (laughs)
20:48 (laughs)
21:03 (laughs)
21:07 He's like, "Bro, what?"
21:08 "Esta, bro."
21:09 Mm.
21:14 (laughs)
21:15 Sick.
21:23 Okay, Nami.
21:25 (laughs)
21:42 (laughs)
21:43 (laughs)
21:50 (laughs)
21:54 (laughs)
21:59 (laughs)
22:08 (laughs)
22:09 Nah, bro.
22:14 Not with the aviators, though.
22:16 Not butt-ass.
22:20 Nah, bro.
22:25 (laughs)
22:31 (laughs)
22:32 (laughs)
22:37 Bro, the fact that my man was out here
22:48 swinging this to her butt-ass, bro, it's hilarious.
22:51 (laughs)
23:00 (laughs)
23:01 (laughs)
23:09 (laughs)
23:24 No way, man.
23:25 Not holding his son.
23:27 (laughs)
23:28 Bro, somebody literally has warrior figurine,
23:32 warrior paintings and statues of themselves, bro.
23:35 That's OD, bro.
23:36 Look at that.
23:47 Look at that.
23:48 Come on, man.
23:59 You got axe hands.
24:00 Nah, bro.
24:06 Nah, cuz.
24:12 Nah, bro.
24:15 First of all.
24:16 (laughs)
24:17 Nah, bro.
24:19 She would not be unscathed, bro.
24:21 That's hilarious.
24:23 Whoopie in the back.
24:29 Okay.
24:34 'Cause Earl's like, "I ain't got nothing to do with this, player.
24:43 I can either go or I can help y'all out
24:46 'cause you did get me out of this thing."
24:48 (laughs)
25:01 (laughs)
25:02 Not the anime.
25:14 The anime sells.
25:15 Yep.
25:25 (laughs)
25:26 Okay.
25:33 Alright.
25:34 Okay.
25:35 Okay.
25:36 C-c-c-combo breaker.
25:38 He owe me a debt.
25:40 He owe me a bowner.
25:41 Look at that, bro.
25:47 (laughs)
25:48 Sound plan.
25:56 (laughs)
25:57 Original plan.
25:58 Here we go.
26:01 I'm about to get saucy on that ass, boy.
26:04 (laughs)
26:15 I wonder how light that prop is.
26:17 Gee!
26:22 Gee!
26:31 Gomma gomma!
26:33 Whip!
26:34 Damn.
26:38 Nice.
26:40 That was a pretty nice combo right there.
26:41 That was a pretty nice combo right there.
26:44 (laughs)
26:45 (laughs)
26:48 (laughs)
26:55 Nah.
26:58 (laughs)
26:59 (laughs)
27:09 (laughs)
27:10 Nah, bro.
27:14 Suck 'em, boppers!
27:16 Kobe can't win.
27:17 Yep.
27:21 (laughs)
27:22 (laughs)
27:49 They have the soul of the showdown.
27:51 They have the soul of the showdown.
27:53 That's a good sign.
27:55 Good sign.
27:56 (laughs)
28:03 (laughs)
28:05 Hmm.
28:17 Hmm.
28:18 (laughs)
28:28 Hmm.
28:39 Hmm.
28:40 (sings)
28:49 (sings)
28:50 50 milli.
28:53 Sick.
28:55 That's...
28:58 my man.
28:59 (laughs)
29:01 (laughs)
29:03 Okay.
29:06 First episode down.
29:08 I have to give y'all a round of applause for that.
29:10 A round of applause for that.
29:12 Let me just make sure there's no, like,
29:14 "Next time on Dragon Ball Z."
29:17 You know what I'm saying? None of that.
29:18 Okay, so this season...
29:20 Okay, so, they got a...
29:23 This season...
29:24 I don't want to watch this, 'cause I...
29:26 Obviously, I've already seen the anime.
29:28 But I want to really digest the show episode to episode.
29:31 Let me just double check on my memory card real quick.
29:34 All right, so, as far as the actual show first episode,
29:39 let's just talk about the feeling of the show.
29:42 I think the feeling of the show, they have down pat.
29:45 Obviously, very vibrant color palette that they have with it.
29:49 So, it definitely matches the vibe of the first season of One Piece.
29:54 So, I'm cool with that as well.
29:56 But the tone of the dialogue, the lightheartedness of Luffy,
30:00 Luffy's approachable nature,
30:03 very kind-hearted as the more adult version of him.
30:08 And then when you see the kid version of him,
30:10 the kind of, you know, not semi...
30:12 He's not obnoxious, but he's like, "I want to be you."
30:15 Like, he looks up to pirates, he looks up to shanks.
30:17 So, I liked that whole little aspect.
30:20 They did change a little bit of things, I think, for the sake of the show
30:24 that I think is a little interesting.
30:27 Like, him just wandering amongst and finding this little box.
30:31 It wasn't like something that was propped up.
30:33 It was kind of in the back.
30:34 So, I thought that was a little convenient as opposed to it being like
30:37 in the anime where it was on the actual...
30:40 I believe it was on the bar.
30:43 So, it was like obvious, like, this is what they brought.
30:46 You know what I'm saying?
30:47 So, in that regard, it's one of those things where I think it was a little strange.
30:50 He just happened to pick this little box out of everything that's there to grab.
30:54 I thought that was a little weird.
30:56 But regardless of the fact, the fruit looked really cool.
31:00 The CG sequence and then obviously him showing up after the fact,
31:03 calling shanks out for not fighting, standing up for themselves,
31:07 and then finding out at that point that he had ate the gum gum fruit.
31:10 So, I thought that was really cool.
31:12 The CG looks really solid.
31:14 I thought in the trailers maybe it was just--I don't know.
31:17 Maybe the trailer that I saw just didn't seem like it was finished or not,
31:19 but it does look really solid.
31:21 And I think also the wackiness of how he's stretching just seems like--
31:26 it's so hard to understand that it's a live person doing this.
31:31 So, you know.
31:33 But, yeah, the stuff looks solid.
31:35 So, that's great.
31:38 Shanks is my favorite character.
31:39 So, seeing Shanks in this, I was a little apprehensive from the trailers
31:44 based on what we've seen of Shanks, the little short clips.
31:46 It didn't really show his personality, anything like that.
31:48 So, you have right now the more--you know, Shanks is very reserved.
31:53 You know what I'm saying?
31:54 Because he knows how strong he is as well.
31:57 So, it's not like he's just out here pressing people.
31:59 He's always had that energy, right?
32:02 But when he needs to get busy, he gets busy.
32:04 So, we know that as well.
32:06 So, maybe we see more of Shanks sauce up a little bit in this first season
32:10 because there is some of that backstory there.
32:12 But, you know, hopefully we get some of that from him.
32:16 If not, it will be in line with the anime.
32:19 You know what I'm saying?
32:20 You don't really see much of Shanks.
32:22 When he shows up, it's an event.
32:24 We did get to see Nami and Zoro.
32:26 Both of them played a really awesome role in this episode.
32:29 Zoro's character in this is so good.
32:33 I love his demeanor.
32:35 The sauciness of his character is so cool, and I love that.
32:40 You guys don't understand what I mean by saucy.
32:42 Like, his ability to know that he's that guy, right?
32:46 Not like I did something one time and I felt cool,
32:48 or you did something cool that one time.
32:50 He knows he's that guy.
32:52 That's the vibe he gives off.
32:54 So awesome.
32:56 The sequences, I was a little skeptical, again, based off of the trailers,
32:59 how they were cut.
33:00 But this definitely felt more snappy in its execution,
33:03 so I was loving that as well.
33:04 The choreography was actually pretty solid.
33:06 So, I was like, "Okay, we're in a good spot."
33:08 For episode one, we're in a great spot, I think.
33:11 Nami's character, showing that she's a thief.
33:16 I love that.
33:17 Her sneaky ways, or trying to talk her way out of things,
33:20 and being mischievous, I like that about Nami.
33:23 So, seeing that being on display in the first episode,
33:26 and them really trying--you know, you're seeing how these cogs of this
33:30 greater machine is starting to form.
33:32 So, I like that.
33:33 And the pacing of it was good.
33:34 Them jumping back and forth between present and prior, like in the past,
33:38 I love nonlinear storytelling.
33:41 You only go back when you absolutely need to.
33:44 Okay, we need to kind of give an idea of why you move this way or whatever.
33:50 Okay, let's go back to the "how I got the fruit,"
33:52 and you go to that flashback.
33:54 So, I like that they're telling the story with flashbacks when necessary.
33:58 We're not starting in the origin story of a kid becoming this,
34:02 and then seeing people go off, and--you know what I'm saying?
34:04 So, I love that nonlinear vibe.
34:06 Great.
34:09 The marine situation with Kobe, I thought that was cool.
34:13 And even the dialogue there, obviously it's the same that we get from the anime,
34:17 but sometimes things can be lost in translation going from anime to live action.
34:22 Some things may feel a little too campy or corny,
34:26 but the dialogue was handled really well.
34:27 And he was like, "Maybe the next time I see you we're going to be enemies."
34:30 And he's like, "Maybe, but right now we're friends."
34:34 And that's such a Luffy thing, you know what I'm saying?
34:37 That felt so genuine, so good when he said it.
34:42 And that's why I said it feels like One Piece.
34:45 And I was so happy when I saw these moments in here of Luffy just trying to--he's very simplistic.
34:53 He's like, "We don't have to be enemies.
34:55 I want to do this. You want to become a marine.
34:58 That's awesome. That's what you want to do. Let's make this happen."
35:02 That is a real friend type of person you want to be around anyways.
35:07 Just because you don't follow me doesn't mean you're lost, right?
35:10 And that's Luffy's whole vibe.
35:12 Like, "Cool, that's what you want to do? I got you.
35:14 If I can help you out, I'm going to help you out.
35:16 You don't have to follow me." You know what I'm saying?
35:18 So I love that about his character and them showcasing that in this episode was fantastic.
35:24 There are a couple of things that I think on the production side that for me,
35:29 I think artistically I understand why they tried to do it.
35:32 I'm just not a huge fan of some of the cinematography in certain parts.
35:37 They use a lot of wide angle when I feel like it could add more tension
35:41 when you have a tighter lens on some things.
35:44 And then the wide angle choices to make things feel dramatic actually don't for me.
35:50 With Evada on her ship, when they introduced her, it was like a close-up wide.
35:56 And it's one of those things without doing a fish eye, it doesn't really make it look as dramatic.
36:00 But for whatever reason with her character, it just didn't feel there was no drama in that sequence
36:05 when she was questioning the guy about who the strongest person is
36:10 or who the best captain is or whatever when she hit him over the head with the mallet.
36:14 And I was just like, there was something about the cinematography there,
36:18 like the framing that I was like, I don't know if that was the right lens choice.
36:23 And I saw that frequently throughout it where I'm like,
36:27 certain sequences could have been more dramatic if it was even a tighter shot
36:32 on some of the faces or tighter on the frame for certain people.
36:37 But again, first episode, I'm really excited to see where this goes.
36:42 As a first episode for a very dramatic style of an anime like One Piece.
36:49 One Piece is the character designs are not simple to replicate.
36:56 So going from anime to live action is very difficult to pull off
37:00 because the silhouettes of these characters are so ridiculous.
37:03 So going from that to live action was difficult.
37:06 And I felt they did a very, very good job, which is obviously a major take. Right.
37:11 That's awesome. Music. I thought the music was fantastic.
37:16 The ADR, the overdub of the voice.
37:19 Some things were a little strange for me. Sometimes Goldie Roger or Gold Roger,
37:23 his whole thing just felt like it was out of sync.
37:26 I'm not sure if that was just from what I was watching,
37:29 but it didn't it didn't I felt like it was it wasn't matching.
37:32 Same thing with Buggy at the end.
37:34 The him laughing and things that he was saying didn't match.
37:37 I feel like the ADR was slightly off.
37:39 If you don't know what that is, it's basically the voice recording as they do it over again
37:43 in post production if they didn't get the right audio when they recorded it live.
37:50 But overall, guys, like this is this is a major first step,
37:56 a major first step in a positive direction.
38:00 I am so excited to see the rest of this.
38:02 Now, I was very apprehensive because when I found out the release schedule was all at one time,
38:08 I was actually really concerned, primarily because if it isn't that good,
38:12 everybody is going to talk about it and not spread the word that they should be watching it
38:17 because all of it's out. Right.
38:18 So and then if it's good, it may not get the love it deserves week to week
38:23 because everybody will watch it in two days and it's nobody's me talking about it next week.
38:28 So regardless of the fact that it definitely does hinder the virality possibilities of one piece
38:35 on a week to week basis in the live action format of people building support for the series over weeks.
38:42 This could have been eight weeks of hype around the series.
38:44 And they just I don't know why they release it at one time.
38:47 I really feel like Netflix, you guys drop the ball on this.
38:50 And I don't know why you thought this was a good idea.
38:53 It's not it's not a good idea. And I'm just I can't I can't understand it.
38:59 But other than that, I thought this was a fantastic first episode.
39:04 I would love to hear your guys's thoughts in the comments down below.
39:07 Are you excited about the one piece show? Have you guys like the first episode or not?
39:11 How many episodes should I do a week? I'm thinking about doing two, maybe three a week.
39:16 It just depends on my schedule. If you guys would like to see more of that,
39:19 make sure you guys let me know in the comment section below.
39:21 I'll catch you guys in the next one. Bye.
