Tensions have risen between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Black communities in Florida following a racially motivated shooting in Jacksonville that killed three Black people over the weekend. At a vigil for the victims, DeSantis had to speak over loud boos from the largely Black crowd. DeSantis has pushed policies like changing how slavery is taught in schools and redistricting a Black congressional district that has angered and outraged many Black voters and leaders in the state. Black national organizations have stopped holding conferences in Florida and issued a travel advisory for Black Americans visiting the state.
