'Kobe' crowd chant touches Jordan's Hollis-Jefferson

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson says it means a lot to him to have drawn 'Kobe, Kobe' chants from the Mall of Asia Arena crowd as he poured 39 points in Jordan's 87-95 loss to New Zealand. Kobe was the late Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers who died in a helicopter crash in 2020, along with daughter Gianna, and seven others. Like Hollis-Jefferson, Bryant was a prolific scorer who earned five NBA championship rings.

00:20 >> Ronday, you said people doubted your offense.
00:35 Now you're hearing chants of Kobe.
00:38 How can you say about that?
00:40 >> Like I said, it's an honor, bro.
00:42 I grew up playing like, thank you, I grew up playing like all around.
00:46 Like I didn't care about scoring, it was about like winning.
00:49 I was like trying to get triple doubles, to be honest.
00:52 And then some quick thing where like, I just knew I could put the ball in the basket.
00:56 I knew if I could do that a little bit better, I could help my team tremendously.
01:00 And then I knew that if the coaches would wanna have the ball in my hand,
01:04 then I knew I was a good decision maker.
01:05 So the rest is just history, we just started to connect, everything.
