00:00 [COUGH]
00:02 >> [INAUDIBLE]
00:04 >> Coach Edgars kind of just mentioned
00:05 that this Georgia Tech team is gonna be one that comes to the ball a lot.
00:08 They got guys like Dante Smith, Trey Coleman, that backfield.
00:10 What's it been like kind of prepping for a team that's got a running back
00:13 committee like that?
00:14 >> Yeah, obviously we know they have a lot of good depth.
00:18 They have a lot of great backs.
00:19 So I think definitely emphasizing stopping the run game is gonna be a priority.
00:25 I mean, we want passing scenarios.
00:26 So emphasis has been on trying to figure how to contain it,
00:32 get them to pass the ball and push the third down.
00:34 So I mean, that's just how our prep's been.
00:38 So we just wanna continue to prep that way.
00:40 >> Yeah, Yahya, Yaseer, Momo, Miami, Montgomery are all gone.
00:47 They were big time playmakers last year.
00:50 Who do you see rising up to fill in those spots?
00:53 And how do you guys overcome the loss of that much talent?
00:58 >> I definitely think we have, especially on the line,
01:01 we have a lot of up and coming.
01:02 We have a lot of young people.
01:03 But Steven Heron, that's the name that's been tossed around.
01:06 He's obviously stepping up, taking up that role.
01:09 We have a lot of good backers.
01:12 Our DBs are productive, whether it's blitz,
01:16 PBUs, they're all over the field.
01:18 So we have a lot of good people to look at.
01:22 I don't know if I would give you one, people in specific that you don't already
01:25 know, but I just say watch us, basically.
01:29 >> The defensive scheme this year, I guess, is different from last year.
01:35 But is for you personally, with your position and
01:37 your responsibilities, has it changed much?
01:38 >> Obviously, I'm more on the edge now this year.
01:43 Difference in front from bringing forward.
01:46 I have more edge responsibility, more edge rushing.
01:50 Last year I was a lot of interior, just how it worked out.
01:54 So I think in terms of role, having the flexibility to potentially drop out,
02:01 rush quarterback from various positions,
02:05 I think that's something this defense has allowed me to do and expand upon.
02:09 >> Ashton, I know you've already talked about their running backs a little bit,
02:13 but one of their running backs is Travian Cooley, a guy you know a little bit.
02:17 Something about what's that gonna be like going against him?
02:20 >> What's that like?
02:21 I definitely think it's gonna be, to me, that's a cool experience.
02:24 I know that people might not think so, but you go against him in practice,
02:30 so you kinda know how it's like to play against him.
02:33 But I think being able to beat him on the field would be something that I look
02:37 forward to, so just really excited for that.
02:41 >> Ashton, do you think there's anything that's gonna surprise people about this
02:45 defense or something that maybe people aren't talking about enough,
02:48 that you think is a strength?
02:49 >> Let me think.
02:53 >> You too.
02:54 >> People talk.
02:58 >> [LAUGH]
03:03 >> I mean, I would really say our DBs.
03:06 I mean, people usually talk about the D-front.
03:08 I think the DBs don't get as much love as they should.
03:12 We got a lot of good DBs, a lot of returning talent.
03:15 We got a lot of new talent.
03:17 So it's kinda hard to see from the outside how they fit in.
03:22 But I mean, from just watching it, they're playmakers.
03:26 They're gonna be all around the ball.
03:28 They're gonna give us more time to rush, stuff like that.
03:30 I mean, I just feel like they don't get the love they deserve.
03:33 So that's something, that's a good look out for.
03:36 >> Ashton, a lot of people were talking about,
03:39 have talked about the linebacker position.
03:41 How have you seen TJ Quinn kind of emerge as a guy who's,
03:46 in the spring game, made a ton of plays and now has some experience?
03:51 >> No, I mean, I'll tell you TJ, TJ's a quiet type.
03:57 But I think he's definitely stepped more into that role,
04:00 like understanding what the playbook is, how he fits into it,
04:04 how to give us calls and stuff like that.
04:06 I think just being able to get game experience is really,
04:11 that's really all it needs.
04:12 He's a great player.
04:13 He's strong.
04:14 He's fast.
04:15 He's talented.
04:17 So I'm looking forward to playing on the field with him.
04:20 >> How do you incorporate being from Florida in your upbringing into your
04:24 playing?
04:25 >> I think a big part of Florida is speed.
04:30 And that's something I try to emphasize in my game.
04:35 Don't really get breaks in Florida when you play football.
04:39 So try to be relentless, try to be always around the ball.
04:45 Just trying to be relentless, having a high motor.
04:49 That's something that I would incorporate.
04:52 And that's what I try to do every time I'm on the field.
04:55 >> As you guys have been working a lot for game week,
04:57 it's been a long time since the final game.
04:59 When game week finally does arrive,
05:01 does it feel a little different when the alarm clock goes off?
05:03 Or is it different around the football complex?
05:05 >> You can definitely feel the air is a lot different.
05:07 I mean, we're prepping for it every week.
05:10 But I definitely think there's a sense of urgency, as my coach would say,
05:14 from all the guys.
05:18 So I mean, we're really tuned up this week.
05:20 We're looking forward to it, just to go down, give people a show.
05:24 >> All right, thanks, guys.
