00:00 The perfect casting choice can make all the difference to a movie or TV project.
00:04 Conversely, there are sometimes completely obvious choices for roles that come together
00:09 absolutely perfectly.
00:10 Online communities adore throwing in their two cents when it comes to who should play
00:14 what role.
00:16 And we here at WhatCulture are no different, it seems.
00:19 And so, with that in mind, then, I'm Ellie with WhatCulture, and here are 10 actors perfect
00:24 for upcoming movie roles.
00:26 Number 10. Carrie-Anne Moss in John Wick Chapter 5
00:30 The John Wick franchise has cumulatively grossed a whopping $573 million worldwide from the
00:37 first film to the third.
00:39 The kick-ass Keanu Reeves action vehicle has also been critically well-received for each
00:44 of the hero's outings, with praise being heaped on the performances, world-building, and exceptional
00:49 fight choreography.
00:51 John Wick Chapter 4 is up for release in early 2023, and given how increasingly lucrative
00:56 the franchise has been for Lionsgate Studios and Keanu Reeves' continued commitment to
01:01 the future of the role, a Chapter 5 for our troubled hero is all but confirmed.
01:06 With this in mind, Carrie-Anne Moss would be perfect to play an as-yet-unnamed part
01:12 in this franchise entry.
01:14 Moss herself garnered critical praise for her turn as ruthless lawyer Jerry Hogarth
01:18 in Marvel's Jessica Jones, and whilst the Matrix resurrections turned out to be an ultimately
01:23 disappointing affair, it was heartwarming to see her reunited with her screen partner
01:28 Reeves.
01:29 Assuming Laurence Fishburne's Bowery King isn't killed off during the events of Chapter
01:33 4, this casting would certainly tickle the teats of nostalgia.
01:37 This is especially true given we were denied seeing the triumphant triumvirate reunited
01:42 during the Matrix resurrections.
01:44 Number 9. Taron Egerton in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse
01:48 Plot details are thin on the ground for the upcoming animated sequel.
01:52 Confirmed from the small teaser released at the end of 2021, we know Spider-Gwen will
01:57 be making a return as Miles Morales' crime-fighting partner and potential love interest.
02:02 Also confirmed to star is Oscar Isaacs' meme-baiting Spider-Man 2099, also confirmed
02:08 in the first film's excellent post-credits stinger.
02:11 Given this sequel will see Miles journey across multiple dimensions, we're likely going
02:15 to see even more iterations of our web-slinging hero than we did the first time around.
02:21 Enter Spider-Punk, a cockney version of the hero and general pastiche of the Johnny Rotten
02:26 Punk Rocker cliché.
02:28 Who better to embody this humorous iteration than Eggsy himself, Taron Egerton, who proved
02:34 himself a consummate Londoner in the Kingsman franchise.
02:37 What with Spider-Punk also being a musician, Egerton fulfills the needs of that aspect
02:42 beautifully.
02:43 To put it lightly, the man's got pipes, lending his vocal talents to both the Sing
02:47 movies and as Elton John in the Rocketman biopic.
02:51 With Egerton's clear talent as a character actor, he would absolutely nail the musician
02:56 side of the character as well as the rough-and-tumble cockney side.
03:00 8.
03:01 Michelle Rodriguez in Star Wars Rogue Squadron
03:04 Star Wars Rogue Squadron is yet another project we know little about.
03:08 Set for release in 2023 and held by Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins, the film will follow
03:13 an entirely new cast of characters in an original story focused on a new generation of starfighter
03:19 pilots.
03:20 Further plot details along with casting decisions are yet to be announced, but given how well
03:25 Star Wars Rogue One worked as a story unshackled from the central franchise's cumbersome genre
03:30 expectations, here's hoping lightning strikes twice with this new offering.
03:35 Given Michelle Rodriguez's storied history with the Fast and Furious franchise, it's
03:39 a no-brainer she would be perfect for a role on a Star Wars film focused on similar vehicular
03:44 mayhem.
03:45 Known for playing a tough chick role across her many films, Rodriguez would be perfect
03:50 for some kind of command position within the titular Rogue Squadron.
03:54 Furthermore, Rodriguez's small but memorable role as Skye in the indie horror flick She
03:59 Dies Tomorrow hinted at untapped acting chops above and beyond her so-far great, if cliched,
04:05 acting history.
04:06 7.
04:07 Gemma Chan in The Three-Body Problem
04:10 The Three-Body Problem is an utterly terrifying trilogy of sci-fi books by Chinese author
04:16 Liu Cixin recounting a war between humans and an aggressive alien race known as the
04:21 Tresilarans.
04:22 Given the trilogy's length and use of multiple timelines, it's safe to assume much of the
04:26 first season will focus on the character of Ye Wenjie, the first contact of the Tresilarans
04:32 amid China's cultural revolution.
04:34 Gemma Chan impressed just about everyone with her turn as rogue android Mia on Humans and
04:39 is now rightfully reaping the rewards.
04:42 With burgeoning blockbuster success in the likes of Crazy Rich Asians, Raya and the Last
04:46 Dragon and Marvel's Eternals, Chan's career is looking better and better every year.
04:51 Netflix's Three-Body Problem will be an English-language adaptation of the work, but
04:56 given the plot's inseparable ties to Chinese culture and history, the appropriate casting
05:01 choices must be made.
05:02 An actor with the talent of Chan is perfectly suited to the role.
05:06 Number 6.
05:07 Bradley Cooper in Indiana Jones 6
05:10 With Indiana Jones 5 currently set to release in June of 2023, much conversation has been
05:15 made about lead Harrison Ford's advanced age and the future of the franchise as a result
05:20 of this.
05:21 Whilst the Crystal Skull movie was so disappointing that many fans don't even consider it in
05:26 canon anymore, we are nonetheless excited to see Ford don the iconic fedora and whip
05:31 potentially one last time.
05:33 Given that Hollywood is generally one big feedback loop of nostalgia-fuelled money-making,
05:38 it's highly unlikely this will be the last we see of our grumpy, swashbuckling archaeologist.
05:44 This can only mean one thing - reboot.
05:46 Here is a role in which Bradley Cooper could easily shine.
05:51 Not only does he have the same cantankerous energy that could match the role of Indy,
05:55 but he also possesses the same physicality that Ford did in the first three movies.
06:00 After supporting the physical similarities, Cooper acquired a very Indy-esque fedora during
06:05 the events of Guillermo del Toro's brilliant Nightmare Alley.
06:08 Seeing the Hangover star in this iconic item of clothing only compounds the fact that he's
06:13 the perfect guy for the job.
06:15 Number 5.
06:16 Michaela Cole in The Sandman
06:19 Set inside the DC Universe, we follow Morpheus, Lord of Dreams, as he rebuilds his kingdom
06:24 after being imprisoned by human occultists for many decades.
06:28 This is a part of an immortal race known as the Endless.
06:32 The last member is conspicuously absent from the cast list.
06:35 With this in mind, we posit that Michaela Cole would be perfect for the character of
06:40 Delirium, who is presumably set to appear in future seasons.
06:44 Once known as Delight among the Endless, she suffered through a traumatic event that transformed
06:48 her into the eccentric, unpredictable Delirium.
06:52 And yes, in the comics, Delirium is represented by a childlike figure, though this incredibly
06:57 layered character deserves the touch of a seasoned acting veteran to truly bring it
07:01 to life.
07:02 Given Cole's towering portrayal of trauma in her own show I May Destroy You, she has
07:07 a good handle on sensitively playing such characters.
07:10 Her comedic sensibilities, as displayed in E4's brilliant Chewing Gum, would also lend
07:15 incredibly well to the more quirky aspects of the character.
07:19 Number 4.
07:20 Henry Golding in Bond 26
07:22 Before I go any further, just a major spoiler warning ahead for No Time To Die, so if you
07:27 haven't seen that film, then maybe skip this section.
07:30 With Daniel Craig's swan-song Bond entry satisfying a majority of critics and audiences,
07:35 it's still hard to forget that they only went and definitively killed off the beloved
07:39 spy right in front of our eyes.
07:42 No one would have been happier at this outcome than Craig himself, who has stated in no uncertain
07:46 terms he resents the character and wished to stop playing him many times over the years.
07:52 It does leave a giant question mark over who should next take the 007 mantle, with many
07:56 rumours and fan castings pointing to the likes of Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill and Idris Elba.
08:02 But we reckon Henry Golding would make for the perfect MI6 super spy.
08:07 Showing us his suave credentials in the likes of Crazy Rich Asians, as well as presenting
08:11 the necessary grit to play a deadly ninja in G.I.
08:15 Joe's Snake Eyes, Golding would be a perfect and modern choice to take on the role of the
08:19 man with a license to kill.
08:21 Furthermore, it would make sense for the studio to cast someone relatively young for the role,
08:26 at 35 years old, Golding is younger than most of the popular picks for the character and
08:31 could ensure a long tenure in the position of the titular spy.
08:35 And if they could bring back Anadyrmus' Paloma while they're at it, that'd be just swell.
08:40 Number 3.
08:41 Paddy Considine in The Fantastic Four
08:44 Paddy Considine has been a mainstay of British film and television for a few decades now,
08:49 with memorable roles such as the vengeful Richard in Dead Man's Shoes, appearances
08:54 in two out of the three Cornetto trilogy movies, and a skin-crawling turn as pervert priest
08:59 John Hughes in Peaky Blinders.
09:02 With all this incredible talent both in front of and behind the camera, it's frankly incredible
09:06 he hasn't broken big in Hollywood yet.
09:09 Given the movie industry's preference for casting British talent in villainous roles,
09:13 Considine is perfect for the inevitable MCU version of Doctor Doom.
09:18 The Fantastic Four has not had a great time when it comes to big screen adaptations, and
09:23 that's putting it lightly.
09:24 The 2005 effort, despite making enough bank to warrant a sequel, was an experience limper
09:29 than Mr. Fantastic's CGI arms.
09:32 To make matters worse, the initially promising Josh Trank reboot tanked worse than almost
09:36 any other superhero film of that era.
09:40 With a full MCU version of Marvel's First Family confirmed to be on the way, who better
09:45 to take on the dangerous, layered character of Victor Von Doom than one of British media's
09:50 most preeminent talents?
09:52 Number 2.
09:53 Pamela Anderson in Black Canary
09:55 The DCEU's Bird of Prey film, whilst a very slight box office flop, was generally well-received
10:01 by critics.
10:02 Praise was levelled particularly at the cast and performances, with Margot Robbie's inimitable
10:07 turn as Harley Quinn and Jurly Smollett as Black Canary.
10:11 A Black Canary spin-off film has been tentatively greenlit for release in 2023, with Smollett
10:17 reprising her role as the titular Bird of Prey.
10:20 Given that director Cathy Yan originally wanted Poison Ivy to appear in the still-unconfirmed
10:25 Birds of Prey sequel, the Black Canary solo movie seems like the perfect opportunity to
10:29 finally debut the DCEU version of Ivy.
10:34 With this in mind, Pamela Anderson would be the perfect stunt casting for the role.
10:38 To put it lightly, Hollywood seems to have a major issue casting a woman over the age
10:42 of 40 in roles such as these, a trend that is thankfully beginning to change.
10:47 So casting Anderson would really throw down the gauntlet in reversing these practices.
10:52 Furthermore, Poison Ivy is very much portrayed as an environmentalist.
10:56 Given Anderson's real-life charity work in this field, it feels like a perfect union
11:00 between actor and character.
11:02 What with the recent release of Disney+'s Pam and Tommy reigniting her profile among
11:07 younger audiences, now would be the perfect time for a Pamela Anderson renaissance.
11:13 Harry Styles in Dune Part 2
11:16 One major character who was conspicuously absent from Dune Part 1 was Glossier-Rabanne's
11:21 younger brother Fade Rotha.
11:23 A physical threat in his own right and much more Machiavellian compared to his beastly
11:28 brother, Fade is the favorite of Baron Harkonnen as successor to the House.
11:33 It was theorized for a while that the character had been cut entirely to trim down the dense
11:37 plot structure of the novel.
11:39 Director Denis Villeneuve recently confirmed that yes, lovely Fade will be making a major
11:44 appearance in the upcoming part 2.
11:47 One interesting and somewhat left-field suggestion has been One Direction alumni Harry Styles,
11:52 and it's an incredibly good fit for the role.
11:56 Fade Rotha is meant to be the yin to Paul Atreides' yang, and given Styles and Chalamet's
12:01 similar builds, hair and facial features, this kind of stunt casting would work rather
12:05 well.
12:06 Paul Styles himself impressed naysayers with his small but memorable turn as Alex in Christopher
12:11 Nolan's Dunkirk, as well as showing his gameness for more central roles in his Surprise Eternals
12:16 cameo.
12:17 Let's just hope that Denis Villeneuve watches What Culture.
12:21 And that concludes our list.
