00:00 Hi Jessica Simpson.
00:01 Hi, how are you?
00:02 It's so great to see you in person.
00:03 I know, good to see you too.
00:04 I love being here for PetSafe.
00:06 We're at this dog park.
00:07 If you were a dog, Jessica, what would you be?
00:09 If I was a dog, my children have said I would be a corgi because I have short arms and a
00:14 long body.
00:15 And a great caboose.
00:16 I have my favorite caboose.
00:17 They do have a good caboose, I will say.
00:20 But there is a corgi like roaming around.
00:22 I was like, is it even off the ground?
00:24 I don't know.
00:25 And you brought your love, Penny.
00:27 I did.
00:28 What's the craziest thing you let Penny do?
00:31 I mean, Penny, I pretty much let her do most things.
00:37 She's not a very, like she tries to be active, but she thinks she's human.
00:42 So if anywhere I am, she is.
00:45 And if I have a day off, I'm on the couch, so she's under a table.
00:48 So to bring her out to something like this, I think it's bringing her a lot of joy.
00:53 Yeah.
00:54 She's the queen of the dog park.
00:55 And I think she feels really safe.
00:56 She's just checking every dog out.
00:59 Like, what is everybody doing and why don't I do this every day?
01:02 Is there something absurd you've bought for her or that she has that would make me laugh?
01:07 Not really.
01:08 I mean, don't people like grill their dog's chicken?
01:14 That's a good one.
01:15 That's a good one.
01:16 I mean, you know, see some rice, grill some chicken.
01:19 I don't really know that I have done anything that absurd.
01:24 Does she sleep in the bed with you?
01:25 She does have a better dental system than I do.
01:28 I will say that she gets her teeth like cleaned every week and they like get in there.
01:34 And I'm like, I don't have a water pick.
01:37 Like, I think I try and floss as much as possible, but definitely she gets her teeth brushed
01:43 more than I brush my teeth.
01:44 I like it.
01:45 I just admitted that I brush my teeth once a week.
01:48 Once a week is good enough.
01:49 I floss every day, all the time.
01:50 It's kind of a habit.
01:52 Tell me about your partnership with PetSafe Dog Ramp Program.
01:56 PetSafe is a beautiful partnership that I feel so blessed to be a part of because really
02:02 it's just about keeping dogs happy, healthy.
02:07 I personally love the dog park situation, but I find that the, I have eight dogs because
02:14 my kids ask for a dog every Christmas and they think Santa brings a dog.
02:21 And all their friends are like, Santa doesn't bring me a dog.
02:23 Not if I am.
02:24 We're like, our Santa does every year, so I'm sure I'll be on a ninth dog this year.
02:29 Penny's the one that we've like, all of our dogs are our dogs.
02:34 They come over to our backyard because we have a really big backyard, but we have let
02:40 people adopt them.
02:41 So I feel like an adopting agency.
02:43 That's great.
02:44 That's wonderful.
02:45 But I feel like, there are three at the house though.
02:50 Three currently.
02:51 There are three currently.
02:53 The others are with friends or other employees.
02:58 Three kids, three dogs.
02:59 I like that.
03:00 Yeah.
03:01 Yeah.
03:02 So they each feel like they have their own, but Penny is kind of the one that goes to
03:06 every room, lays there, starts snoring, gives some love, and then heads out.
03:12 But she's like a narcolept.
03:13 First of all, she's got this human eye.
03:15 She does.
03:16 She knows what she's doing.
03:17 She will talk to you.
03:18 She's like, "Penny is talking to me."
03:20 Does Eric agree with all the dogs from Santa?
03:23 Are y'all in sync with them?
03:25 Yes.
03:26 Eric's worse than I am.
03:27 He is definitely one of those.
03:29 He cannot say no.
03:32 I like that.
03:33 Yeah.
03:34 It's hard for him as a father to say no.
03:37 He'll find a safe way or a good way to go about it.
03:42 And we just know that there'll be a ... We have waiting lists for Penny, and I'm like,
03:46 "No."
03:47 Nope.
03:48 She's mine.
03:49 She's mine, because I never thought I would ... You can't ever replace a dog that you've
03:52 loved so much, but I've had a dog taken by a coyote.
03:55 And that's why I think the beauty of a park that PetSafe is doing, and really, anybody
04:03 can enter to win this park in their own neighborhood, which I think is amazing.
04:07 Yeah.
04:08 And it brings everybody together.
04:09 It does.
04:10 And it brings all the good dogs together.
04:11 They're like humans.
04:12 They learn how we learn.
04:15 They watch other dogs and emulate it.
04:18 By the way, Penny is the star of the park.
04:21 She is.
04:22 She's being very shy, I will say.
04:24 But maybe ... I don't know.
04:27 Maybe she likes somebody.
04:28 Maybe she found somebody that she has a crush on.
04:30 She's sniffing.
04:31 Speaking of that, I was just thinking, you and Eric are coming up on your 10-year anniversary
04:35 next year.
04:36 Which is ... Is it ... 10 years?
04:37 10 years.
04:38 Okay.
04:39 Wedding?
04:40 Okay.
04:41 Oh, because I'm like, "Wait, we've been together longer."
04:43 Yes.
04:44 I mean, I guess you could add the extra years we've been together.
04:46 Okay.
04:47 So this summer, yeah, we had our ninth.
04:48 So you're right.
04:49 We are coming up on our 10.
04:50 Was it love at first sight?
04:51 It was love at first sight.
04:52 It was infatuation at first sight.
04:54 And there was something so peaceful and gentle about him that I had never experienced in
05:00 a man.
05:02 Just something so gracious and gentle.
05:04 I wanted to understand him.
05:09 And I felt protected and safe with him.
05:11 How would you say it coming up on 10 years?
05:13 To reflect back, what's the key?
05:16 Well, obviously, I feel like a lot of people say the key is communication, but it's also
05:21 communication as friends.
05:25 I think you have to be best friends.
05:27 You're doing everything in life together.
05:31 But it is good to keep the romance there, even with three kids on top of our head.
05:37 It's hard, but he'll leave me little notes, because he'll wake up earlier than me.
05:42 He'll leave me little letters.
05:44 There's a lot of things like, "I can't wait to get my hands on him later."
05:47 It is hard.
05:48 I think that you have to have those little things as a couple that are just between you
05:52 two.
05:53 I like that.
05:54 You have to make the time, because you've got three kids, the three dogs.
05:58 It's hard to prioritize.
05:59 You have to make it a priority.
06:00 Yes.
06:01 And now it's like our kids are so old, it's like, "Wow, they're going to walk in on hanky
06:04 panky time."
06:05 Okay, so what do we do?
06:08 How do we do this?
06:09 Where do we go?
06:10 Has it ever happened?
06:11 Yeah, it has, but I think we're in denial about it, as is the child.
06:18 So it's not really been something that we've talked about, although I did just have to
06:23 fill in one of my middle child in on certain things.
06:28 But he luckily has not walked in.
06:31 I think he would stand there and be like, "What are you doing?"
06:35 He would literally talk to us.
06:39 You came with your oldest daughter.
06:40 She's so gorgeous.
06:41 Wait, she looks just like you.
06:43 Is she taller than you?
06:44 She is about to be taller than me.
06:46 Well, she wears a size nine and a half shoe, and I'm a seven and a half.
06:50 I mean, it's a given.
06:51 If you breed with an NFL player, you're definitely going to have big babies.
06:58 I kind of always knew she was going to be taller than me.
07:01 I don't know about Birdie yet, my youngest, because she's like me.
07:06 She has my exact same legs, little legs, long body, little arms.
07:10 She's a Corgi.
07:11 Yeah, she's a Corgi.
07:13 But Maxwell, she just has this energy about her that is like ageless, and I open up to
07:20 her way too much.
07:21 I treat her like a best friend way too much.
07:25 She will make dinner before I even get a chance to.
07:29 This is so great.
07:30 Max is very, very responsible.
07:31 So she not takes care of you, but she's your buddy.
07:33 Did you have this same relationship with your mom?
07:36 No.
07:38 My mom was like a stay-at-home mom, and I always ... I mean, I didn't make my bed.
07:44 Max makes her bed without me even asking.
07:46 I don't know why.
07:47 It's just who she is.
07:50 She's really funny, but now she's convinced me that drinking coffee is very good for her.
07:55 They all start young these days.
07:56 I'm telling you.
07:58 And they get those mocha frappuccinos, the whole thing.
08:02 I thought she was pulling my leg, and we were at Starbucks the other day, and she is like,
08:08 off of TikTok, she saved some order.
08:11 Yeah.
08:12 And she's like, "This is what I want."
08:13 And I'm talking to the person, I'm like, "A strawberry chai tea ... I don't even know what
08:19 I'm saying.
08:20 I'm like, "A chai tea strawberry puree, cool whip."
08:25 I'm like, "What is coming out of my mouth right now?"
08:28 We got to do some fashion flashback.
08:29 The Met Gala.
08:30 What do you remember about that, Jess?
08:33 This was an amazing night.
08:35 I remember I had my red lipstick tucked down under my roof.
08:43 I wish I could do that.
08:44 That's talent.
08:45 So, you know, I love this look, and I loved being brunette.
08:51 I almost went brunette recently, but I was like, "Ugh, I have collection photo shoots,
08:56 I like to keep it cohesive."
08:58 But I do get a wild hair up the butt.
09:01 I like your eyes.
09:02 I like that for your eyes.
09:03 I know.
09:04 I feel like I take on a different persona.
09:06 This, I love this dress.
09:07 Tell me about the SV.
09:09 I love this dress.
09:10 I was honestly looking for a dress kind of like this for today.
09:12 This length is my favorite.
09:14 Yes, I love this length.
09:15 It's very Doris Day, and I love that ... I think this was a stylist at the time, Jessica
09:23 Pastor, who was one of my really good friends, and I love the corsage detail.
09:27 I love that.
09:28 I know.
09:29 It's so pretty.
09:30 I felt like I was Peggy Lee.
09:31 And this, I love.
09:32 Okay.
09:33 I'm looking forward to the 2003 AMAs.
09:34 2003, oh wow.
09:35 All I'm looking at is your body, your style.
09:39 I think this shows you that I have a very small butt crack.
09:42 Yes, you do.
09:44 My kids make fun of me because I'll wear bathing suits, and they're like, "Where is your butt
09:49 crack?"
09:50 And I'm like, "It's like this big.
09:51 I have a little butt crack."
09:52 That's my favorite thing.
09:53 I didn't know about you.
09:54 I think that's a sign of greatness.
09:56 You know, I always like to do different stuff with my hair, different lengths.
10:01 This was fun.
10:02 I was definitely feeling myself in this picture.
10:06 I can tell.
10:07 You know what I love looking back at these?
10:08 I'm thinking about when you came famous in the 2000s.
10:11 You were under a lot of scrutiny for any evolution of your body, which was so unfair.
10:16 How did you navigate that?
10:17 Do you pass that on to your kids?
10:19 Because now things are changing.
10:20 Well, now my kids see me being still scrutinized, and it's very confusing to them because they're
10:27 like, "I don't even understand this.
10:32 Why don't they just say, 'You look pretty, Mom.
10:33 You look pretty.'"
10:34 And I'm like, "Honey, I really don't...
10:37 I wish I could explain it.
10:39 I wish I could say for me that it's gotten better, but it still remains the same."
10:46 And I don't know why, but it's okay because honestly, for the Jessica Simpson collection,
10:52 it's been a beautiful thing because I have been every size.
10:55 I do understand everybody and every woman and their mentality and how deserving they
11:00 are of fashion and style.
11:02 And it's just such a natural thing for me.
11:05 So I have to just...
11:08 I tell my kids, "How you feel about yourself is how you should feel."
11:12 100%.
11:13 And it's not about...
11:15 You don't dress for anybody else.
11:17 You don't try to look like anybody else.
11:19 I mean, somebody can inspire something, but truly, you don't have to be any other size.
11:25 Maxwell's the tallest in her grade.
11:27 She's like, "Should I be insecure?"
11:28 I was like, "The fact that you're asking me if you should be insecure means absolutely
11:32 not."
11:33 You're comfortable.
11:34 You stay comfortable.
11:35 You be you.
11:37 And I think that more than weight that people have focused on, we need to focus on our mentality
11:45 about even talking about weight.
11:48 100%.
11:49 I think it just doesn't need to be a conversation.
11:50 What I love now, we're both mothers.
11:52 It matters.
11:53 It all matters.
11:54 It all matters.
11:55 I don't say the person looks great because they're skinny.
11:58 It doesn't matter what article, what news outlet, what friend, who they're around.
12:04 Everybody talks about, "Ooh, I shouldn't eat this many calories."
12:08 My kids are like, "What's calories?"
12:09 Yeah, exactly.
12:10 Bring it on.
12:11 I always say, "You must."
12:12 I try to not complain about myself in front of them.
12:14 I try to not diet.
12:16 I try to not do any of that stuff.
12:17 They just see me living a healthy lifestyle.
12:20 That's why I quit drinking.
12:21 I was like, "Okay, they're going to pick up on everything I do, so I got to be a good
12:24 role model.
12:25 I can be that for the world.
12:26 I got to be it for my kids."
12:27 What a great thing.
12:28 I say to my daughters all the time, "Your looks are the least interesting thing about
12:31 you.
12:32 Be so much more."
12:33 It's all, "Great job.
12:34 Great job with everything."
12:35 I agree with that.
12:36 It only makes you more beautiful the more you glow inside.
12:40 That's going to come out.
12:41 Look what it's done for your brand.
12:43 Maxda has this whole thing about glow up.
12:46 I think it's some trend about glowing up.
12:49 I thought it was just shimmer.
12:51 No, it's an inner glow.
12:55 That's a beautiful message.
12:56 I love that.
12:57 That's beautiful.
12:58 [music]
