Dog becomes deaf pup's guide the moment he meets her
Transcript
00:00 She's 100% deaf. She was owned by a young woman who loved her
00:04 But from what I was told by the rescue the woman started dating a man who did not want Paloma
00:11 And this rescue was willing to take her
00:14 I had never had a differently abled dog, but I kept seeing her on Instagram, and I kept thinking I'd love to get this dog

00:21 Hi baby!

00:27 Rocky, you gonna go for a walk?
00:29 You gonna go for a walk sweetie?
00:31 Rocky became her guide dog
00:33 *music*
00:35 He immediately took on that job

00:39 He was lonely at night
00:41 My daughter and I are gone quite a bit because she plays basketball
00:43 And we were finding that he would go and get our things to the front door
00:45 And he would just snuggle with them
00:49 And he is not lonely anymore
00:51 We love to see him guide her and help her with everything we do
00:53 I do use a couple of signs with her
00:55 Like dinner, when she sees that, uh oh, she puts her ears up like it's not dinner time
00:57 We used a few signs, but I will tell you, she looks to Rocky
00:59 He is more the person that gives her the sign
01:01 It's clear that he knows she needs a little more help

01:17 Everything we do, he tries to help her
01:19 Let's say they're outside around the corner and I'm trying to get them
01:21 Obviously she doesn't have recall
01:23 She's down, just call him, he lets her know
01:25 And he brings her in
01:27 They thought you were getting a treat
01:29 With treats, he looks to make sure she comes to get her treat
01:31 *dog barking*
01:33 We have a basket full of toys
01:35 And obviously most of them were Roros before she came
01:37 And he is not a huge toy person
01:39 But when she goes to take his toys
01:41 Then he gets interested
01:43 *dog barking*
01:45 She says play with him, and then he plays with her
01:47 He is like the big brother that will do anything little sister wants
01:49 They both get along with other dogs
01:51 But there have been a few times where there have been dogs we didn't know
01:53 He gets in the stance to protect her
01:55 She would probably like to go play
01:57 But he doesn't know the dog
01:59 So he's very much protected by her
02:01 Roro is just a darling dog
02:03 People were concerned when we adopted him
02:05 I actually had a note put in my mailbox
02:07 That said, "Roro, you are a good boy
02:09 I actually had a note put in my mailbox
02:11 That they did not want a pit bull
02:13 To move to our neighborhood
02:15 And immediately
02:17 Because he is such a good dog
02:19 We walk around the neighborhood
02:21 And they see what a wonderful dog he is
02:23 He gets along with everyone
02:25 And he takes his job very seriously
02:27 Even this morning
02:29 I'm getting up a little earlier to be on this call
02:31 And so when I got up, she didn't hear me get up
02:33 I don't normally get up then
02:35 And he went to wake her up
02:37 And he nudged Paloma
02:39 Paloma is just such a... I call her my pretty, pretty princess
02:41 It breaks my heart that she might have been treated poorly at some point
02:45 Her eyes look more like human eyes
02:47 She lives a very full, normal, typical dog life
02:51 To be a deaf dog, it has made me realize
02:54 It's no big deal
02:56 She's going to knock it over
02:58 All these differently-abled dogs out there
03:01 There's deaf, there's blind, there's so many
03:03 And they can have a full, loving, wonderful home
