00:02 - You've raced it, what, like a thousand times?
00:04 Now you just gotta do it in real life.
00:06 - I'm with Sam Reed here with the stars of "Gran Turismo,"
00:10 Archie Mattaqui and David Harbour.
00:12 How cool was it that your stunt double in the movie
00:17 was the character you're portraying in the movie,
00:19 Jan Martenbroek?
00:21 - Oh, I mean, it's probably the first time in the world
00:24 that's ever been done.
00:25 It was incredible.
00:26 But it was also, you know, the lovely thing about Jan,
00:29 I think there's probably a couple of situations
00:32 where that would feel like an immense pressure
00:35 having the person that you're playing
00:37 be there the entire time,
00:38 but it just felt nothing but lovely.
00:41 I mean, it just made the job so much easier and nicer.
00:44 And I think we were all aware
00:46 that we were making something really cool and great
00:48 while we were there.
00:49 So I mean, yeah, it was sick.
00:51 It was great.
00:52 - Have you guys actually played "Gran Turismo?"
00:54 Have you grew up playing the game
00:56 like a lot of us gamers have?
00:58 - I mean, I feel like I played in college.
01:01 I played like "Gran Turismo 2" or something,
01:03 back when it was a bit blockier and more pixelated.
01:06 - Like the first PlayStation?
01:08 - Yeah, sort of like PS1 or 2.
01:10 Like, I feel like the more advanced the simulator becomes,
01:13 the less interested I am.
01:15 I miss pixelated, like...
01:18 - That is very you.
01:19 That is very you.
01:20 (laughing)
01:21 - I love video games, don't get me wrong,
01:23 but there's something about the like simulators
01:25 that like, not my thing.
01:27 - I played constantly for the film.
01:29 I had a "Gran Turismo" trainer,
01:31 so I was playing every single night.
01:33 - What was that like?
01:34 You had a trainer for the video game?
01:36 - I mean, it was a lot of people's dreams come true.
01:38 I just had to play PlayStation for work,
01:40 so it was amazing.
01:41 But it's just repetition, repetition, repetition.
01:44 Just the only way you get to learn those tracks
01:47 is just by doing it again and again.
01:49 So it was just night after night, but it was amazing.
01:51 And I got pretty good.
01:53 I don't know if the skills are still there,
01:55 but I was all right.
01:57 - Spoken like Jan himself.
01:59 So if either of you could race
02:01 on any one of these tracks in this game,
02:03 which one would it be?
02:03 - I don't know it on the game,
02:05 but is the Nürburgring in the game?
02:09 - Yeah, they're all in the game, bud.
02:12 - Whoa, look at that.
02:13 With all the spray paint on the track and everything.
02:17 - Yeah, I mean, yeah, all of it.
02:19 - Well, that track was, I mean,
02:20 shooting at that track in Germany was kind of unbelievable.
02:24 - Yeah.
02:25 - It feels really windy and like there's little
02:29 kind of hills and caverns.
02:31 It doesn't feel like a traditional racetrack in that way.
02:33 Little pockets of like danger.
02:35 And it felt, that track was, I thought, super cool.
02:40 - I feel like a lot of casual fans of the game
02:44 and of the movie don't realize how much physicality
02:47 and how much endurance is involved
02:49 when you're a race car driver professionally.
02:51 What was that like for you guys
02:52 when you were training in preparation for this movie?
02:55 - I mean, for me, it was the hardest thing I've ever done.
02:59 It was unbelievably taxing.
03:01 It was very, very, I very quickly learned
03:05 that I am a mere mortal and these people are athletes.
03:07 And there's a reason that not everybody does this
03:10 because it was just one of the hardest things.
03:13 I think I put my body through
03:14 and was one of the most daunting things,
03:16 realizing I then had to do it every day for months.
03:20 But I just left with, you know,
03:22 there's so much respect for every driver.
03:25 It's just an insane sport.
03:27 It's crazy.
03:28 - All right, guys.
03:30 Well, thank you so much for taking the time out
03:31 to interview with us.
03:32 Before I go, I do have to ask David Harbour one question.
03:36 Are we excited about the Rangers season next season?
03:39 Are we excited?
03:40 Like, are we ready to go?
03:41 - Yeah, I was excited about this season.
03:43 And then that damn new rookie goalie for the Devils
03:48 ruined it for me.
03:50 - It was.
03:51 - No, I'm excited.
03:52 I love them.
03:53 They got a great team.
03:53 They'll be good next year.
03:55 - I'm very excited to see them as well.
03:57 Thank you guys so much for taking the time out
03:59 to talk with us today.
04:00 - Cheers, bye.
