The Coventry City view on ex-Sunderland striker Ellis Simms.
Transcript
00:00 You mentioned Ellis Sims there, so we'll come on to him. Obviously a player that Sunderland
00:04 fans will know well from his loan spell last season. Coventry spent a lot of money on him.
00:10 The reported fee was around, I think, £3.5 million, which could rise to £8 million if
00:15 Coventry reached the Premier League. He did start the first two games, still yet to score
00:20 his first goal, and then he was on the bench against Swansea. So what have you kind of
00:25 made of him? How has he fared in the first few games? And what's the kind of view on
00:29 Sims with Coventry fans?
00:30 Truthfully, myself, there's definitely a player in there that we know that he's really, really
00:38 good. I mean, you've only got to look how he started for you last season. The thing
00:42 for me is that in pre-season they were working hard. They went to Exeter. He didn't look
00:51 like he was moving freely at Exeter. In the warm-up he had a shot and then he was, you
00:58 know, pulled back and he didn't do any more running around during pre-warm-up for that
01:03 game. And during that game he really looked off his game. He looked like he was struggling
01:09 a little bit. So I think the last three games, he didn't start Saturday, as you quite rightly
01:17 said. I think he's trying to get used to the fitness level because the Premier League finished
01:23 after we finished. So he hasn't had much of a break. I just think that he will start to
01:29 shine. He will learn how we want to play. He's a completely different player than we're
01:35 used to. We're used to the high press. We're used to pace. We're used to just putting the
01:41 ball out wide, getting the ball in. I think Ellis is going to learn. He's still a young
01:48 lad and he will come good at the game.
