Disappointed England fans have reacted to the Lionesses taking a private route out of Heathrow Airport on Tuesday (22 August) after waiting hours for the squad to arrive home from Australia.
Supporters were hoping to show their appreciation for the players, who were narrowly beaten 1-0 in the World Cup final by Spain.
Lisa Fountain, who had been waiting since 10:30pm last night, said she was “gutted” she didn’t get to give the Lionesses a heroes’ welcome.
“I’m hoping it’s because they’ve been on such a long flight, but we were told that it was their staff who said they couldn’t come through,” she said.

00:00 It's disappointing, I think we just assumed that they were going to come through, they
00:03 were going to come and we knew that there were going to be a few fans here, we didn't
00:07 realise how many fans, but yeah we just expected them to come through, just cheer for them,
00:12 just show them how proud we are of them.
00:14 We were excited just to see their luggage come through because we were like, they've
00:16 not left, they're here, the luggage is coming through, so it kind of built that atmosphere
00:21 that it was like, oh are they coming, are they coming, how long are they going to be,
00:24 so it's just a little bit disappointed that we didn't get to show our love and support
00:28 and how proud of them we are.
00:30 We have been here since half past ten last night, we wanted to get front row seats to
00:35 see our girls.
00:36 We came here to give them the heroes welcome, ok they came second, but just to get into
00:43 the final was an absolutely amazing achievement.
00:46 These girls have captured the nation's heart in so many ways and on so many levels, they've
00:52 done so much for women's sport, not just football, and we just wanted to say, look guys we are
00:58 so so proud of you as a country, we're with you, we support you, you hurt, we hurt, we
01:07 are your fans.
01:08 I'm hoping it was just because of the fact that they've been on such a long flight and
01:12 they're so tired, and we do get that, but we were told that it was their staff that
01:17 said they couldn't come through, I don't know.
01:21 It's definitely not nothing to do with them because they are so humble and they would
01:27 be out here signing, no matter how tired they were, they would be out here signing and talking
01:33 to us, so I don't think it's got anything to do with the girls at all.
01:38 I've brung my book, I'm always writing it, and I've brung this so that they can maybe
01:43 shine it for me.
01:44 When I heard, everyone kept saying they're not coming out, they're not coming out, I
01:47 had belief that they were going to come out, and then when we finally heard that they're
01:52 not coming out, like, actually, confirmation, I was devastated because I wanted to see Mary
02:02 or Millie Bright because they've done extremely well in the World Cup and I'm proud of them,
02:10 but no, just didn't happen.
02:12 You were playing in goalers Mary Earp's yesterday weren't you?
02:15 Yeah.
02:16 So, yeah, it's a shame they haven't come through today but they've got everything to be proud
