15+ Survival Base Ideas for your Minecraft World!
Transcript
00:00 Building a base in Minecraft is something almost every player does.
00:04 They may vary in size and style, but they all serve the same purpose of a place to call
00:09 home.
00:10 With 1.20, the Trials and Tales update coming to us soon, there's no better time to start
00:15 brewing up some ideas for what you want to build as your base.
00:18 Whether you're planning on starting a new world, or you just want to change up your
00:22 current one.
00:23 Either way, here are some of my favourite ideas that you can use as inspiration for
00:28 creating your very own base.
00:30 First up, we'll start with my current survival base, which actually spans over this entire
00:35 mountain range.
00:36 The idea with this is that I wanted to set up a whole bunch of farms and other helpful
00:40 things in my world, but instead of just shoving them all in the same place or hiding them
00:45 underground, I made a separate building to cover up each one.
00:49 So for example, my super smelter is in this building here, my nether portal has its own
00:54 cool build over the top of it, my wheat farm is connected up to this water mill, you get
00:59 the idea.
01:00 Every single one of these buildings has something that I use and constantly check in on.
01:04 So instead of having just one mega base as some like to call it, I have a bunch of smaller,
01:10 more detailed builds that are all connected through pathways and landscaping, which might
01:14 be more favourable to you if you're not a fan of building huge bases.
01:18 Now you may notice that there is one building that stands out slightly more than the rest.
01:23 It's this one right here.
01:24 Of every building I've made in these mountains, this one is definitely the most frequented,
01:29 and that's because inside of here is my storage and bedroom, both very important aspects in
01:34 a survivor world.
01:36 If I didn't need as many farms or I was happy building them elsewhere, this would actually
01:40 make for a pretty cool solitary base.
01:42 I wouldn't call it a mega base exactly, it's not really big enough for that, and I also
01:47 wouldn't say it's a house exactly.
01:49 It's kind of an in-between.
01:51 So what you could do is design a huge building like this, trying to stay away from house-like
01:56 features.
01:57 Basically, don't just build four walls and a roof.
02:00 Try to do something a bit more unique.
02:02 Of course, in this situation, Google or other websites like Pinterest are your best friend
02:08 in helping you to get some inspiration if you can't think of exactly what to build.
02:12 Maybe you're not looking to build anything too crazy and you just want your main base
02:16 to be a house.
02:17 That's cool too.
02:18 However, you're probably going to need a big one.
02:21 Whether it's designing your own modern mansion, including a surrounding structure for more
02:25 space, or building a large house with everything you need on the inside.
02:30 As long as you make it big enough for your own needs, you'll be set.
02:33 I'd recommend planning ahead though and have a think about what you actually want to be
02:37 included inside of your base so that you leave yourself enough room.
02:41 If you get yourself into a predicament where you run out of space and need to expand, you
02:45 can always do that by going underground.
02:47 This could be by transforming part of a cave into your base, or even just having a large
02:52 open area leading off to all of your farms or whatever else you choose to put down there.
02:57 You could even just scrap the idea of building a regular house all together and do everything
03:02 underground and just simply have one entrance to go inside.
03:06 Alternatively, you could build one of these underground bases with an open or glass roof
03:11 so you can still see the outside but you don't have to do too much exterior work, which may
03:15 suit some people better.
03:17 Something else which makes for a great survival base and can be easily expanded are hobbit
03:21 holes.
03:22 I guess these are kind of a version of underground bases where the majority of the build will
03:27 be in some sort of terrain.
03:28 I think they are perfect as you can build a simple exterior and interior for a starter
03:33 base and then as you play more in your world, you can begin to dig out more space and expand.
03:39 You don't even have to build a stereotypical hobbit hole, this mountainside base or iceberg
03:44 base would work too.
03:46 Which reminds me, here is a small base I set up in my old survival world where I built
03:51 on top of and inside of an iceberg.
03:53 Whilst you don't have to do the same exactly by building in a frozen ocean, it's more
03:58 of just the idea of finding a piece of land that you like the look of and building all
04:02 over it.
04:03 Sort of like a small version of my current survival base which we spoke about in the
04:07 beginning of the video.
04:09 So long as you've got yourself an elytra, you could build your base up in the sky and
04:13 have it just floating there.
04:15 Now this is my work in progress base from my hardcore skyblock series but it serves
04:20 as a good example of just building lots of different platforms with something useful
04:24 on each one and connecting them with pathways.
04:27 It might be wise to build some way up to the top of your base such as having a nether portal
04:32 up the top and down the bottom so you can go through the nether to get up to your base
04:36 if you do happen to lose your elytra.
04:39 If you don't like the platform idea, you could always build something like an airship or
04:43 balloon house to live in, just maybe build them a bit bigger than these two.
04:47 This next one may not be the best idea for a base as it would definitely come with some
04:51 challenges but you could always build in the nether, or the end for that matter.
04:57 Building in a different dimension to the overworld could result in a pretty interesting base
05:01 design and would probably make for a fun challenge if you're up for it.
05:05 I've made quite a few nether houses here on my channel, all of them quite small, but
05:10 here is one of my larger ones, a nether castle in the middle of a lava pool.
05:15 You could always build a bigger version of this and spend your days rolling over the
05:19 netherworld.
05:20 Castles themselves make for a really cool survival base, even when they're not built
05:24 in the nether believe it or not.
05:26 They can be any size from something really small, upgrading to a medium size or even
05:31 building a massive castle spanning over hundreds of blocks.
05:35 Unfortunately I don't have a good example of this as I've never made a really large
05:40 castle, I would like to at some point, but if you need ideas then I can assure you there
05:44 will be lots out there on the internet.
05:47 Castles in Minecraft are very popular.
05:49 Now you may not be looking for a popular base idea, you might want something a bit more
05:53 unique.
05:54 Well how about living inside of a sized up version of a Minecraft mob, block or item,
06:00 such as a flower pot house or my sniffer base here.
06:03 Just in case you love the new 1.20 mobs so much you want to set up camp inside of it.
06:08 You can take a look through the creative menu and scan for any items that you think would
06:12 make for an interesting base.
06:15 Perhaps a lantern, turtle eggs, an anvil, so on and so forth.
06:19 If you're crazy you could even build a house made out of blocks that are made out of blocks
06:23 themselves, just like the guys on the Sinecraft server did.
06:27 Something I love to build in this game are villages, towns and cities.
06:31 Now usually I don't have anything of use inside of these buildings, it's all purely aesthetic.
06:37 However you could easily turn a village into your own survival base by giving some of the
06:41 buildings a use.
06:43 You could use the library as your enchanting setup, the smithy as your smelting area, the
06:48 town hall for your storage room, you get the idea.
06:51 It would make for a very lively survival base that would feel super immersive to be a part
06:56 of, especially if you can get some villagers to live there with you.
06:59 One of my favourite bases I've made was here on the RippleFX server.
07:03 I found a mushroom island, converted it to grass so it would look green and luscious
07:07 and then built a whole bunch of stuff all over it, including a mansion right in the
07:12 middle and a large underground area for all of my farms.
07:16 Because mobs don't spawn here on mushroom islands I didn't have to worry about anything
07:19 trying to kill me so I was completely safe at all times, which just made for a really
07:24 relaxing experience where I could just sit back and build.
07:28 This next idea takes place somewhere most people might not initially think to build,
07:33 and that is underwater.
07:34 I only have a couple of underwater houses that I've made in Minecraft and they're
07:39 pretty small, but every time I have I really enjoy it.
07:42 There's just something about staring out of the window watching the fish and other
07:46 mobs swim by.
07:47 It feels very peaceful.
07:49 Now obviously you'd probably want something a bit bigger than these, so I would recommend
07:54 gathering some sponges first from the ocean monuments as those will be paramount in building
07:59 just about anything underwater.
08:01 Unless of course you want to set up a conduit so you can breathe in the water, then you
08:06 can just swim about everywhere.
08:08 Something that does make for a very cool base in Minecraft is a tower.
08:12 It's kind of like building a house for your base, just more vertical.
08:16 You can construct the outside first and then section off a bunch of the inside on different
08:20 levels where you can just build something helpful on each floor.
08:25 Similar to building a house for your base, if you run out of room you can just go directly
08:29 down and continue the vertical structure underground, or even just expand upwards all the way to
08:35 world height.
08:36 Last but not least we have treehouses.
08:38 Who doesn't love the idea of living up in the trees permanently having a great view
08:43 of your surrounding area all whilst feeling at one with nature.
08:47 Of course you might need more room than what one treehouse will give you, so you could
08:51 always expand over to other trees and build more treehouses that are all connected.
08:56 There is one more option for what you could do for a treehouse which is to build a ginormous
09:00 tree that you can live inside of like my giant sized up Minecraft oak tree here.
09:06 It might take a while but at least you won't lose track of it.
09:09 So there we go everybody, those are all of the base ideas that I have for you today.
09:13 I really hope this helped you out and that you enjoyed watching.
09:16 Thank you ever so much for doing that and I will see you in the next video.
09:21 Bye for now.
