00:02 Hi, Dan Grief here, head professional
00:06 at Woburn Golf Club, talking about putting arcs.
00:08 It's a question I get asked a lot.
00:10 Should I have a slight arc,
00:11 or should I go straight back, straight through,
00:13 or should I have a slightly more exaggerated arc?
00:16 And really, there is no answer to that.
00:18 It's not that one is better than another.
00:20 We've all got our slight tendencies.
00:22 Some will be straighter, some will be more in, in to in.
00:26 But it's important you don't get too far outside the line,
00:28 or too far in, so for example, I put the string here
00:31 just to give you a nice visual of where straight is.
00:34 So if I was to go down a string,
00:36 I would have a perfectly straight to straight stroke,
00:38 which really, once you start hitting it
00:40 more than a couple of inches,
00:41 it's very difficult to have a straight to straight stroke.
00:44 You need to start coming in at some point.
00:46 So if your stroke is going out here,
00:48 that obviously is outside the line, okay,
00:50 you're gonna tend to pull your putts.
00:52 If your putter starts coming in way too much on the inside,
00:55 again, you're gonna have a job trying to square that face up.
00:58 So a slight arc is nice.
01:01 Okay, even a little bit more is fine like that,
01:03 but let's not bring it round too much
01:05 or have it going outside the line too much.
01:08 So my stroke is a little bit more in to in,
01:10 so you'll see my stroke coming slightly inside.
01:12 I've got the string down here.
01:13 That gives me a little bit of a guide
01:15 as to how much I'm coming in.
01:19 And let's make sure as well that we really do match
01:22 the style of stroke that you have to the putter you use.
01:25 So this is a heel balance putter.
01:27 That means the toe is hanging down.
01:29 The toe releasing this way
01:30 is gonna help me square the putter up.
01:32 If I was to use a face balance putter with my stroke,
01:35 I would tend to push the putts
01:37 because face balance putters
01:38 do not want to swing as much in the toe.
01:40 So there's no right or wrong.
01:42 You go out there and do a bit of practice yourself
01:43 and find out which putter suits you best
01:47 depending on your arc.
