00:00 [INAUDIBLE]
00:10 >> Thanks, Claude.
00:20 First off, I wanna thank the group from Operation Teammate.
00:22 We had them post practice and kinda made an annual tradition to spend some time
00:28 with the military families who've been separated from their kids and
00:31 serve our country.
00:32 And I know they're not out there for the entire scrimmage cuz I don't know that
00:36 they could handle the heat and being out there that long.
00:38 But they come towards the end and our players get to interact with them.
00:42 And certainly wanna thank the people that serve our country and
00:46 come to our practices.
00:47 So that's a big plus for our players to kinda get to thank somebody else.
00:51 I was very pleased with the improvement from scrimmage one to scrimmage two.
00:58 I thought that the last week's scrimmage was not really up to the standard of
01:03 what we need.
01:04 I thought this scrimmage two was probably behind where we've been the last two
01:09 years on scrimmage two, but a lot further than we were on scrimmage one.
01:12 So the progress we made was good, but we're not where we need to be.
01:17 It was not real hot out there.
01:19 I thought it was warm, but it was nowhere near what it was the week before.
01:23 So the competition and ability to sustain was much better.
01:27 So I was proud of that.
01:29 I thought the offense started faster, made a few more explosives.
01:33 But you know how that is in scrimmage.
01:34 When that happens, it means somebody else is giving them up too.
01:37 We've kinda finished up through camp.
01:42 This marks the last of what I consider to be camp moving forward.
01:47 I think we'll have four or five maybe practices in the next eight days.
01:51 So there's more time for recovery, but not time for relaxing.
01:56 If anything, we've gotta secure some more spots,
02:00 a couple spots still up for grabs.
02:03 And then really hone in on who our special teams and
02:06 travel roster guys are gonna be.
02:08 So we're two weeks away from kickoff, and we're not where we need to be.
02:14 But we're competing, and I wanna see some more improvement, but
02:19 I did see improvement from scrimmage one to two.
02:20 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:23 >> Questions?
02:24 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:30 >> Everyone, we talked to you last week, we were asked about readiness,
02:33 if there was any one group that really caught your eye.
02:35 It didn't really sound like it was scrimmage one.
02:37 Scrimmage two, was there any of those position groups that caught your eye with
02:41 how they went about practice and how they moved through the scrimmage?
02:44 >> Yeah, I can't say one position stood out over another in terms of readiness.
02:50 They came out ready to scrimmage today, there was a lot better energy and
02:52 enthusiasm, competes, even though they've been through another grind of a week
02:56 of practice, but just the overall energy and enthusiasm was better.
03:01 I think it's easier to do that when you don't have the heat, so
03:03 I don't think one group stood out over another.
03:06 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:13 >> Yeah, Coach, you've obviously had quarterback battles go well in the camp
03:16 in years prior.
03:16 Last year, you had a kind of a known starter coming into the year.
03:20 Is there any difference in knowing who your guy is versus
03:24 having an open competition like this going into week one?
03:26 >> Yeah, there's a difference between last year,
03:31 Stetson was our starting quarterback.
03:34 Carson Beck is gonna be our starting quarterback, he's done the best job.
03:39 We've communicated that earlier in the week to the other quarterbacks, and
03:43 we've kind of been operating that way.
03:45 And the other guys have done a tremendous job in terms of competing, and
03:50 they're gonna continue to do that.
03:53 We haven't said anything in terms of who the second quarterback is or
03:57 how those reps are gonna be divvied up.
03:58 But Carson is ahead of the other guys in terms of what he understands about
04:02 the offense.
04:04 I'll be honest with you, I was really impressed with the other two quarterbacks
04:08 throughout camp, how far they've come in terms of improvement.
04:13 Coach Bobo has done a great job with those guys, and
04:16 they both made a lot of plays with their feet and done some good things.
04:20 Carson's been in this offense for a year over one of them and
04:23 two years over Gunner, and he's just a hit.
04:27 So he'll be our starting quarterback as far as the other guys.
04:30 I'm excited to see those guys hopefully have an opportunity to play, compete.
04:35 They'll be able to go with the ones here in the next two weeks, some, and
04:39 get more reps, and figure out, even if we have a two,
04:43 who that's gonna be and how it's gonna go forward.
04:45 >> Jeremy, with Carson, I know it's a small sample size since you let him know
04:51 that he was gonna get started, but so far and through this scrimmage,
04:54 how do you feel like he has handled it and what he's done since you told him?
04:59 >> Hasn't changed much.
05:00 I mean, I think he understood.
05:03 He got a pretty good volume of those reps anyway.
05:07 He's done well prior to knowing that, and he's done well post knowing that.
05:12 And to be honest, both Gunner and Brock have too.
05:16 They've done a tremendous job of growing and
05:18 continuing to put the Dolphins in positions to be successful and
05:23 make explosive plays.
05:24 So they've all done a good job of that.
05:26 >> Kirby, I've heard Dominic Lovitz continue to make plays and
05:33 McCaim has too, has that moved beyond a little bit like kind of a nice spring
05:37 story to a guy that could really contribute?
05:40 What does that say that two kind of slottish,
05:43 speedy guys are probably gonna be involved a lot?
05:47 >> Well, they're more similar than they are different.
05:50 So they both have redeeming qualities and quickness and
05:54 getting the ball, making touches.
05:56 So they're not physically imposing blockers.
06:01 They both are willing blockers and they're both really tough.
06:04 They'll stick their face in there and you're not gonna be in our program or
06:08 rep at our practices if you're not willing to go block somebody or
06:12 play on special teams.
06:14 So both those guys have bought into the special teams and
06:18 the blocking when they don't have the ball.
06:20 And when they do have the ball, they've made some good plays.
06:22 So we have to find a way to utilize each of their skill sets.
06:27 And they complement each other in terms of keeping each other fresh.
06:30 The other guy is Anthony Evans, who's played in the slot and
06:33 he's different than those guys and he's made some plays.
06:36 So I'm very pleased with where they are.
06:38 We gotta continue to get more out of those guys.
06:41 >> Kevin, when is the outlook on getting lost back?
06:47 >> It's week to week.
06:48 I mean, I won't know exactly what it is.
06:50 We've had Arian came back in three to four weeks from a similar injury.
06:57 But we've had guys take five weeks.
07:00 We've had guys take six weeks.
07:01 I can't tell you that.
07:02 I don't know.
07:03 It'll be how he handles it and the pain tolerance and the recovery.
07:06 But we're gonna run and
07:08 the medical staff's gonna do the best job they can to get him back.
07:12 [BLANK_AUDIO]
07:22 >> What have you felt like you've learned about your football team for
07:26 two weeks of ball camp as you head into what is, I guess,
07:29 the difference between scout team and, I guess, travel team?
07:31 >> Ask that question again?
07:35 I'm not sure.
07:36 You got me when you said the scout team and travel team.
07:38 >> Yeah, you mentioned this is the end of fall camp.
07:41 I guess explain the difference.
07:42 As fall camp wraps up, we start preparing for an actual football week of practice.
07:47 And what have you learned about your football team?
07:49 >> Well, we'll start the week of practice for UT Martin around Thursday or Friday.
07:54 So we have work to be done before that.
07:57 It's just not camp mode.
07:58 The players will be really off tomorrow.
08:00 We'll have a really light day Monday in which we just put the scrimmage to bed.
08:04 And then Tuesday, Wednesday,
08:06 we'll work on other teams we play outside of our first opponent.
08:11 So we'll continue to work to improve our roster, get some guys back who've been
08:16 dinged up, and try to get those guys some more camp-type practices.
08:20 But we won't really divide up and get ready for UT Martin until the end of the week.
08:28 >> Yeah, just about injuries.
08:29 What's the status of Shmuel Mundine, Branson Robinson,
08:33 Kenna Milton, and Janelle Aguero?
08:34 >> I mean, they're all day today.
08:39 I don't know really what to tell you.
08:40 Smile's running really fast.
08:42 He's exercising, he is not practicing.
08:45 He will be able to do some drill work Monday.
08:49 He's come along really well.
08:50 He's very, very passionate about getting back.
08:55 And he's not sore.
08:59 He's running, and the first test of that foot is how much sore it's coming.
