The Australian artist Ash Keating is known for his paintings of entire buildings and huge walls. For Museum Langmatt in Baden, Switzerland, the artist transforms the caretaker's house in the Langmatt park into a three-dimensional painting, before the building must make way for the construction of a multifunctional pavilion. The exhibition is complemented by new paintings in the park and in the museum rooms, providing a differentiated insight into the artist's work. A publication with exhibition views and a text by Markus Stegmann will accompany the exhibition.
Ash Keating was born in 1980 in Melbourne, Australia. His practice is multidisciplinary, ranging from site-specific installations, outdoor murals and performances, to large-scale and domestic-scale canvases. His large outdoor murals, created with paint-filled fire extinguishers, can be found across Melbourne. Since 2004, he has exhibited extensively in galleries and undertaken large scale, site-responsive public art projects across Australia and internationally. His works are held in numerous public and private collections including National Gallery of Victoria; National Gallery of Australia; Museum of Contemporary Art Australia; Art Gallery of New South Wales; Monash University Museum of Art and Artbank.
Ash Keating: Painting of Haus Germann (Performance) / Museum Langmatt, Baden. Baden (Switzerland), August 17, 2023.
PS: Special guest appearance: Astrid Lohmann (who accompanied the creation of the artwork with her watercolor painting).
