00:00 Here's what Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold, and Trey Lance did on Day 16 of 49ers training camp.
00:05 Let's start with Trey Lance. He completed every throw he attempted.
00:09 Unfortunately for Lance, he attempted only 3 throws and played just 5 snaps all morning
00:16 because the 49ers seemed to think Sam Darnold was better. More on him in a minute.
00:20 In 3 practices this week, Lance completed 11 of 14 pass attempts and threw 0 passes that were
00:26 intercepted or nearly intercepted. He was confident, decisive, and accurate. And yet,
00:33 the 49ers don't seem to notice or care. It feels like they wrote him off the minute he broke his
00:38 ankle. They don't seem to look at him as a dual threat quarterback anymore as they almost never
00:43 call runs for him this year. And now that they view him as a traditional quarterback, they seem
00:47 to think he's the worst one on the roster. They're wrong. Sam Darnold. He's the worst quarterback on
00:55 the roster. Yesterday, I said that he might be having the best training camp of the quarterbacks
00:59 on the team. So of course, today Darnold completed a whopping 1 pass out of 7 attempts. Thanks for
01:05 making me look stupid. He's way too old and experienced to play this poorly. If Lance were
01:11 1 for 7 in a practice, he'd be national news. But no one other than the 49ers seems to care
01:16 about Darnold. And I have no idea what the 49ers see in him. He's an inconsistent quarterback
01:21 you can't trust. Nothing more. And yet, he threw more than twice as many passes as Lance today.
01:27 Darnold shouldn't even be on the team. All of his reps should have gone to Lance this offseason.
01:32 What a freaking waste. Brock Purdy. He completed 13 of 17 pass attempts with 1 touchdown and 2
01:39 dropped interceptions, which is a great day for him. The first dropped interception flew right
01:44 through Talanoa who flung his hands in the back of the end zone. There was no receiver close to
01:47 the play. The second dropped pick was a telegraph throw to Brandon Ayuk when Isaiah Oliver dove for
01:53 the ball and dropped it. If Purdy keeps this up, he could be among the league leaders in
01:57 interceptions this season. He now has thrown 19 interceptable passes in 13 practices. Almost 2 a
02:03 day. And his interception percentage is well above 5, which is terrible. To be fair, he didn't have
02:09 George Keeler or Christian McCaffrey today. Still, he hasn't had to face Nick Bosa at all this
02:14 offseason. And Purdy still is struggling. The 49ers can hand him the starting job if they want,
02:19 but that doesn't mean he'll hold on to it.
