Former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz told the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (Aug 15) that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, had never visited her and cooked pasta for her family at her residence in Bukit Tunku.
The 76-year-old witness said this during former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s trial involving the misappropriation of RM2.3bil in 1MDB funds, and also denied the allegation made by former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner that Zeti’s husband Datuk Dr Tawfiq Ayman had received bribes so that the US$1bil meant for the 1MDB-Petrosaudi joint venture was able to leave the country without BNM’s approval.

00:00 Former Bang Negara, Malaysia B&M Governor Tan Sri Dr Zaty Akhtar Aziz told the High
00:07 Court in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday that fugitive businessman Loh Teck Jo, better known as Jo
00:12 Loh, had never visited her and cooked pasta for her family and her residence in Bukit
00:18 Tungguh.
00:19 The 76-year-old witness said this when asked by Datu Sri Najib Tun Razak's lead counsel,
00:25 Tan Sri Muhammad Shafi Abdullah, at the former Premier's trial involving the misappropriation
00:30 of RM2.3 billion in 1MDB funds.
00:35 To Muhammad Shafi's suggestion that Jo Loh was in the habit of coming to her house on
00:40 weekends to cook pasta for her family, Zaty disagreed, saying that it was "ridiculous
00:46 and preposterous.
00:47 It never happened."
00:50 The 46-prosecution witness also denied that Jo Loh was close with her family through her
00:55 husband, Datuk Dr Taufik Aiman, as the duo were business partners.
01:01 She also said that she never received any expensive gift from Jo Loh in her entire life.
01:07 Meanwhile, Zaty also denied the allegation made by former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leisner
01:13 during Roger Ng's 1MDB trial in the New York court, where Leisner alleged that Zaty's
01:19 husband Taufik had received bribes so that the US$1 billion meant for the 1MDB Petro-Saudi
01:26 joint venture was able to leave the country without BNM's approval.
01:31 However, Zaty said her husband made a statement regarding the allegation because it was personal
01:38 to him.
01:39 Najib faces four charges of using his position to obtain bribes amounting to RM2.3 billion
01:46 belonging to 1MDB and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
01:52 The trial before Judge Datuk Colin Lawrence Sekerah continues.
