00:03 - Okay, well, I had a sneaky suspicion
00:06 that when we got the ruling a few months ago
00:08 that sports betting could potentially
00:10 once again be legal in Florida,
00:11 that this was not just gonna be clear sailing
00:14 and all of a sudden in August,
00:15 you're just gonna be able to bet
00:16 on college football again in Florida.
00:18 But I know that you do have an update
00:20 as far as what the latest is in terms of legislature.
00:22 What do you think the future holds
00:23 for the potential of sports betting being legal,
00:26 let's say over the next year or so?
00:28 I'll give it that.
00:30 - Yeah, Craig.
00:31 So West Flagler Associates,
00:33 who is in a court battle with the Seminole tribe
00:36 and Florida over the gaming compact,
00:39 they have a chance today to file
00:41 for a re-hearing and an embank hearing,
00:43 which legal experts say it's a real long shot,
00:46 doesn't grant a stay, right?
00:48 So the Seminoles could proceed anyway with sports betting.
00:50 But I would assume based on the fact
00:52 they shut down before that they'll wait, Craig.
00:55 Just my guess here, just speculation on my part,
00:57 they would wait this time around to say,
00:59 okay, we've got the green light,
01:00 now we can reopen the Hard Rock app
01:02 because we've got that exclusivity,
01:03 we have that monopoly on Florida sports betting.
01:05 So the day we wanna go up, we'll just go right up.
01:07 You don't have any competition there.
01:09 They have a revenue share, 40% with the state.
01:11 And so we'll see what this means.
01:14 It is procedural.
01:15 You'd expect West Flagler to do it.
01:16 That's what legal experts say.
01:17 They will file today.
01:19 But that seems like a long shot.
01:21 Now the state court deal for Florida persons
01:25 that aren't on the land of tribal casinos,
01:28 is that legal?
01:29 That might be a long shot as well.
01:30 That might be their best path.
01:32 It seems like Supreme Court, again,
01:33 a lot of legal experts say it's a long shot.
01:35 And then the DC Circuit Court that overruled this,
01:38 this mandate for the Florida Gaming Compact
01:41 to come back in would be August 21st.
01:43 There's a 52 day window.
01:44 It ends on August 21st.
01:45 So if you're a Florida sports better, Craig,
01:47 and you hope to have sports betting,
01:49 I think the Seminoles open up
01:52 college football season September 3rd
01:54 and then NFL season starts September 7th.
01:56 If you're Hard Rock, you wanna get the,
01:58 people betting by that point.
01:59 I mean, I think that's the time,
02:00 NFL college football season, that's the king.
02:03 So, you know, if you get through all this
02:05 and you've got the green light,
02:07 then you'd go up, but we'll see what kind of,
02:09 you know, filings West Flagler does today,
02:11 whether it is that and Bonk hearing
02:13 to try to appeal it for a rehearing.
02:16 And then you've have the August 21st date looming
02:19 and then you potentially have state court
02:21 coming into play if they file there as expected.
02:24 So yeah, just a lot of moving parts here.
02:26 I apologize, I'm no legal expert.
02:27 John Holden is our guy at Legal Sports Report
02:29 who knows his stuff backwards and forwards
02:31 and we'll be covering it all.
02:33 We'll see what happens today.
02:34 You know, West Flagler has until today to refile
02:36 and I think they will.
