00:00 You mean your face is getting ready?
00:02 Looking good, huh?
00:03 Yeah.
00:04 Face this side of the room, man.
00:07 We'll go straight to questions for Josh.
00:09 Josh, any new wrinkles in this defense
00:11 without giving away the playbook?
00:13 Is there new stuff that you're sensing
00:15 that you didn't have in the package last year?
00:19 Oh, it's a couple.
00:21 It's really an adjustment within the call.
00:23 Certain ways we can play certain stuff.
00:26 It really was, because at the end of the day,
00:28 we can't change the ball.
00:31 We're going to be cover one, man, cover two,
00:33 cover three, cover four, two, man.
00:37 You know, quarter, quarter, half.
00:39 They know. You know what I'm saying?
00:40 People watch tape on us, too, so they're going to know.
00:43 So we just got to make sure we execute on them.
00:46 Whatever comes, good news, good news.
00:47 Do you feel faster, or do you feel like it's coming along?
00:51 Oh, yeah. Year two, I see the difference
00:53 as far as communication.
00:54 That's the biggest thing on defense,
00:56 and especially in the secondary.
00:58 Like, we got to have each other's back,
00:59 and the safety's got to have our back,
01:02 which having ours and our back as in what's coming behind us,
01:05 make sure we're sinking and helping them out,
01:07 making sure they can stay on top of the stands
01:09 and make sure we're being under the defense
01:10 as opposed to the first person.
01:12 We got their back when they're under us,
01:13 and we're on the top, so it's really a communication thing.
01:16 It's going well.
01:17 Coach Knox said that you guys are deeper this year
01:20 at cornerback than what you were last year.
01:22 Do you agree with all that he's saying?
01:23 Yeah, really the whole team, because honestly,
01:25 like, last year, we really depended on really
01:28 just the front line, if you get what I'm saying,
01:30 as far as really starting.
01:32 So, I mean, like, the depth is there.
01:34 The mentality is there with the depth.
01:37 That's the main thing.
01:38 You can have all the depth, but the mentality's not there.
01:41 But I definitely see the mentality,
01:43 like, sports defensively for sure.
01:45 What have you been saying from the office
01:46 now that they're starting to learn their system
01:48 a little bit more now?
01:49 Fast. They know it fast.
01:51 But it's the end of the game that's going to get me in shape,
01:53 so the teams that want to come here and slow stuff down
01:56 and let us get lined up and let us see what you win,
01:59 it'll happen all day.
02:00 Josh, I know you came in confident about your game
02:02 when you got to T.C., but what did last year
02:04 at the highest level, having the kind of season
02:06 you did, do for you?
02:08 That's a great question.
02:11 Man, it's -- I think about that game every day,
02:14 but that's what makes me go hard out there.
02:17 But actually, I texted my coach last night.
02:19 I was like, "Man, keep coaching your A-word off,"
02:23 because I'm definitely seeing a better player within myself
02:27 since you got your hands on me before I even got here.
02:30 So, I mean, I feel like that speaks a lot.
02:33 And he knows it's coming from a sincere place.
02:36 He knows I pay attention to every little thing.
02:39 I watch the game, so I'm just ready to showcase it.
02:43 Without Trey, how does your role change?
02:45 I mean, obviously, Trey was such a big part of the leadership,
02:47 and I know you and he a lot, too.
02:49 But without him back there, how does your role change
02:51 with this team, not so much on the field,
02:53 but with the team itself?
02:55 I mean, if you want to be honest,
02:59 like, I was really more vocal than one.
03:02 One was just more like, "Look, I know I ain't no talkative
03:05 person, but y'all know what y'all going to get out of one."
03:09 So, like, last year, two-fold was that.
03:11 I was more of the voice, but at the same time,
03:14 you know what I'm saying, he led in his own way,
03:16 and we all respected that.
03:18 I respected it to the fullest, because that was my dog,
03:21 because you know what I'm saying?
03:23 It was like, with the two of us, we felt in here.
03:27 That's what I'm trying to find this year,
03:28 who will be on the other side.
03:31 I'm taking them under my wing.
03:33 What have you been seeing from those guys, like Avery Chan
03:35 and those Macy and those guys that compete,
03:36 the start on the side?
03:39 The fourth. Besides the football part,
03:41 they're getting better every day,
03:42 but they're really, like, going to complete men.
03:47 They're going to great men,
03:49 and they come from great families,
03:50 and they just, overall, just great people.
03:53 But as far as on the field, they're good listeners.
03:57 They want to learn.
03:58 They want to get the reps, and it may sound,
04:03 but they want to make mistakes, too,
04:04 because that's the only way you learn,
04:06 and I make mistakes, too, and when I try to --
04:11 I embrace my mistakes more because it gives them a chance
04:15 to, like, if they can get beat, that means I can get beat,
04:20 but that also means if they can learn, I can learn, too.
04:23 So, really, it's just making sure that, like,
04:28 well, this position specifically in football,
04:30 it's a forever learning thing.
04:33 Like, you can go ask the coaches at the highest level
04:35 in the field, and they're still learning.
04:38 They're still learning.
04:40 So, like, as long as you don't turn that learning button off
04:44 or don't try not to use it,
04:47 you're going to be as great as you want to be.
04:50 Is there a particular receiver
04:51 that you like going against every day in practice?
04:54 I mean, Samuel Ann out right now.
04:56 We all know that, but I love, love,
04:58 love going against Daniel Roberts.
05:00 He's just so quick, so fast, burst, shut it down,
05:08 and he got good hands for his size.
05:10 He's not scared.
05:12 I told Coach Ann last week, I'm like,
05:14 "Man, thank you for bringing him,"
05:15 because if I can cover him,
05:18 I can cover anybody in the country
05:19 because he made me use all feet.
05:22 I can use my hands, but it's, like, more challenging
05:25 if I can stand in front of him with my feet
05:26 than a 6'2", 6'3" receiver going to be cake
05:29 because it's going to be hard to miss
05:31 because it's going to be so much of a big target.
05:33 Josh, there's so many people in the country
05:35 that look at TC and kind of wonder,
05:36 "What are they going to do now?
05:38 They've lost a lot of guys."
05:40 What is the thought process for you guys going into the season
05:42 after what happened last year
05:43 was so unexpected for so many others?
05:46 Get with us or get lost.
05:48 We're going to see something in a second.
05:52 What do you think of the performance so far
05:53 from Chandler so far?
05:55 Very mature.
05:58 He's leading the right way.
06:00 He has great energy coming out of practice every day.
06:03 He talks a little noise to me every day,
06:04 so that kind of going to get me waking up
06:07 because I know he ain't scared to throw it,
06:09 but he ain't really got his guy out there.
06:11 His guy's out there, so he going to be careful.
06:16 But, I love him for it, man.
06:18 Now we got a locker in between us,
06:21 so we're able to be a little bit closer.
06:24 I remember after the National Championship game,
06:26 I looked at the picture last night,
06:27 and I was just seeing the confetti fall
06:30 and just, you know, the Stephon Diggs
06:33 when he lost the AFC Championship.
06:37 I was just standing out there just trying to remember
06:40 that feeling forever so I can come back and cover.
06:43 And one thing he told me,
06:45 "My brother will be back next year."
06:47 I ain't doubted it since, so I'm ready.
06:53 Anything else for Josh?
06:55 I know y'all got something else.
06:58 I know y'all got some Colorado questions.
07:02 Mark, we'll let us ask Colorado.
07:04 He's got a massage at 10.
