00:00 Ather is one of the most prominent names in the electric market in India and now they've
00:09 launched two of the new scooters from the 450 segment, the Ather 450S and the Ather
00:15 450X.
00:16 Yeah, you might have heard the term 450X before, but this is an all new one of theirs.
00:23 So come on, let's take a look at these scooters up close.
00:25 So over here is the Ather 450S, their brand new version of the 450 lineup and the scooter,
00:40 as you can see, comes with almost the same design as the previous models with the sort
00:46 of three-piece front that you can see and the standard, the classic Ather design lights
00:54 and the inbuilt side stand.
00:57 Coming to the specifications, on both the scooters, on the Ather 450S and the 450X,
01:03 we find a 2.9 kWh battery pack, which can give us around a real world range of 80 to
01:09 100 kilometres.
01:11 It can push the scooter for a top speed of probably 90 kilometres per hour, but again,
01:19 depending on the rider's weight and size, the top speed will vary.
01:23 Some of the standard features or rather some of the new features that we see is this brand
01:29 new display on the scooter.
01:31 It's a seven inch deep view display that provides honestly utmost clarity regardless of whether
01:39 you're indoors or whether you're outdoors in the sun.
01:43 It does not matter at all.
01:44 The view that we see on the display will not get hampered at all.
01:49 So coming to the feature front of things, we get onboard navigation, 4G connectivity,
01:55 multipoint Bluetooth and a whole lot of others.
02:00 Looking at the display, the digits that we see, the values that we see is provided with
02:05 such clarity, which is not seen in any other vehicle in the whole scooter segment, not
02:11 just the electric scooter segment.
02:13 And honestly, hats off to Ather for giving us a feature like this because we do find
02:18 it hard to follow what is actually shown on the dash.
02:22 In terms of safety, the Ather, not just the 450s, but the 450X, it gets a tow and theft
02:28 alert where when the bike is switched off, if it's moved away from its position or something
02:33 like that, its blinkers will start blinking and it's going to make a beeping sound to
02:38 alert the thief or the perpetrator and make them think that it's already alerted the owner
02:43 of the scooter, which obviously will make them run away and leave the scooter where
02:48 it is.
02:49 On top of that, it gets ESS, which is emergency stop signal.
02:52 And that's in simple words, when you're riding fast on Indian roads, it's quite a common
02:58 situation.
02:59 You find yourself braking really hard to avoid an obstacle or to save yourself from something.
03:04 In that moment, not just for your safety, but to alert the other road goers as well,
03:10 the Ather's brake lights start blinking when the brake is pressed at a certain level.
03:15 Inbuilt with that feature is the amazing braking performance on the 450 lineup.
03:20 You get dual discs, one in the front, one at the back, with a combined braking system
03:25 and this helps the Ather stop from 60 to 0 within 2 seconds.
03:31 Now that is honestly an impressive number.
03:34 When you're seated on the scooter, we have a whole lot of functions for our hands.
03:42 You get your standard kill switch to cut off and on the ignition.
03:48 You get a reverse mode and unlike the earlier reverse mode, this is just a single tap of
03:53 a button and your scooter is already in reverse.
03:57 What we see on the 450S, you literally just pick it up and put it on the 450X and those
04:03 are the features you have on the 450X.
04:05 It's exactly the same as the 450S except for the 450X has a 3.7 kilowatt battery, but this
04:11 one is a 2.9 kilowatt battery to make it more affordable for the Indian customers, just
04:18 in case they don't need that extra range provided by the battery.
04:22 The design features of both the scooters are honestly really nice.
04:26 It's had a stunning look to it, a very aggressive and a very sporty look to it.
04:31 With the addition of the LED lights, it just stands out compared to other scooters.
04:38 Both the 450s, the S and the X, is built around a hybrid aluminium chassis, which makes the
04:44 scooter much more lightweight, which will make it easier to manoeuvre from left to right
04:49 and in the Indian traffic, manoeuvrability is honestly key for a successful scooter.
04:56 One feature that really stands out to me is the exposed chassis that we see even in the
05:02 older 450 models and even though it might just be a very fine, a very small feature,
05:08 it adds a lot of effect to the whole personality of the scooter.
05:12 In the Indian traffic, we find a variety of different riders.
05:16 We find the one who are just casually riding slow on the side of the road and you find
05:21 those guys who are just going in and out and in and out of traffic.
05:25 Now to suit that vast difference of riding styles, Ather has four riding modes, Eco,
05:32 Ride, Sport and Warp.
05:34 Eco being the most economical, as the name suggests, is warp speed in simple words.
05:41 It will just take off and it's instant torque and power delivery.
05:45 So now after looking at all these design features and all the new technical features on this,
05:51 the question might be raised, how expensive are these two new electric scooters?
05:56 Well, the Ather 450S is priced at Rs. 1,30,000 and the Ather 450X is priced at Rs. 1,38,000.
06:03 So we're at the Ather event, all set to ride their all new Ather 450S.
06:12 So come on, let's go see how it is.
06:13 So now we've got the Ather 450S out on the road and so let's see how the scooter rides
06:28 and how it performs through all the various different modes and everything.
06:33 As we mentioned earlier, if you'll hook on the screen, no matter sunlight or shade or
06:39 anything, the display is absolutely clear.
06:43 There's no sense of any light shining on this that makes it hard for us to see.
06:49 So that's a really nice feature on the scooter.
06:52 So now come, let's see how it performs on road.
06:57 Right now we're on the Eco mode and on full throttle, it gives a very gradual acceleration,
07:04 which is for the city, honestly, the ideal sort of acceleration and everything.
07:11 Even on bumpy surfaces like this, it's a very comfortable ride.
07:16 The front end can get a little, can be a little stiff depending on the person's liking, but
07:22 otherwise it's still super comfortable.
07:25 The top speed on Eco mode, as we can see, is around 53, 54, 55-ish kilometers per hour.
07:34 I mean, in the city, that is the ideal speed.
07:38 You don't see yourself traveling at a faster rate than that in traffic and it gives you
07:46 that power to go in and out of vehicles and all of that, if that's the type of rider you
07:52 are, but it also gives you that gradual increase in power to not make it uncomfortable for
07:58 certain riders.
08:00 Even when you look on the dash over here, it's very neat.
08:05 There's nothing too much, no excess of details.
08:09 It's very plain.
08:11 With the control of the joystick over here, you have three readings that you can see.
08:15 First one is the trip reading.
08:18 The second one is your current ride distance.
08:21 So right now I've only done 1.9 km and the other and the final reading is your odometer,
08:28 which is showing 37 kilometers.
08:30 So these are the three readings.
08:31 The indicator is placed at a very comfortable place, like you don't need to get your hand
08:38 out of position as such or anything.
08:40 It's right there.
08:42 Even for the other functions such as the horn, the dimmer, everything is very comfortably
08:47 placed, even on the right side.
08:50 So here we have the reverse button, right now I'm not going to use it considering I'm
08:54 going in front.
08:55 Here is what controls the ride, your ride mode.
08:59 So there's Eco, Ride and Sport available on the 450S, the Ather 450S and right down here
09:07 as you can see is your start button to start the vehicle.
09:11 So to change ride modes, all you have to do is make sure you're on the side of the road,
09:15 not to come in the way of any traffic because what you'll have to do is shut off the throttle,
09:21 use this button, change it and now you can see we're on ride mode.
09:26 Now coming to talk about the ride mode settings, there is a visible power difference, you do
09:33 feel that little extra torque given and it is a comfortable ride for sure, even on ride
09:42 mode.
09:43 I feel ride mode would be better for those who prefer going a little quicker in the city
09:49 to get in and out of the traffic to avoid obstacles on the road and all because the
09:55 ride mode does give you that power.
09:57 Now the top speed of the ride mode as you can see is somewhere between 60 to 63 with
10:03 my weight, so I'm 6'1".
10:06 My weight goes around 61 to 63 km/hr which is pretty decent considering you don't need
10:14 that much more speed for a city scooter.
10:17 It does have that slight aspect of performance to it even on the ride mode.
10:22 Moving into the sport mode, again, shut off throttle, switch to sport and the power difference
10:31 just from ride to sport is phenomenal.
10:37 The scooter accelerates like it's just juiced up, ready to hit the track and what not and
10:45 it's a blast to ride.
10:48 It could be a little too powerful for someone who's only comfortable with city riding and
10:53 all of that but nevertheless it is a blast to ride on in sport mode.
10:59 Let's just take a look at the acceleration on sport mode for a second.
11:03 Let's see, so let's stop down to around 10-15 km/hr.
11:10 Let's see, so now we're going at around 14-15 km/hr and just look at this acceleration on
11:17 sports mode.
11:20 It just takes off, it just hooks up and it's ready to go and already we're doing 80 km/hr
11:30 like that is truly impressive for a 2.9 kWh battery and you get a top speed of around
11:39 90-95 on sports mode.
11:44 The power delivery will take anyone by surprise.
11:48 It's unexpected but it's fun, it's a lot of fun.
11:54 For the highways like doing short rides and all, this will be perfect because on a scooter
11:59 you don't see yourself travel at such high speeds.
12:03 So getting a top speed of around 90-95 km/hr is a comfortable speed to travel on the highway
12:10 if you're going from point A to point B which is a little long distance.
12:14 So now coming to the braking aspect, it has disc brakes in the front and the back and
12:19 comes with a combined braking system and it brakes really well.
12:23 It has very sharp braking, so that very sharp braking which doesn't make it uncomfortable
12:29 for the rider as such, it's very stable under braking thanks to the suspension setup.
12:34 Even though it's soft suspension, you can brake hard confidently.
12:39 Yeah, so just now over that bumpy section as well, the suspension is honestly made and
12:46 specialised for Indian roads.
12:48 It's soft, so it has that easy travel of the suspension but it's also not too soft that
12:57 when you have to take it inside and outside, inside and outside of cars, it doesn't make
13:03 it too uncomfortable as you still have that stiffness, you still feel planted to the ground.
13:09 So all in all, it's a beautiful ride experience with this Ather 450S and honestly, truly surprised
13:17 by the sports mode of the scooter, it just shoots out.
13:23 So now, after getting a chance to ride the Ather 450S, all I can say is that it was impressive.
13:33 It was smooth, power delivery was very linear on the Eco and the Ride modes.
13:41 The moment you switch to Sport mode, you feel that little torque, you feel that little power
13:46 definitely and the suspension of the scooter really makes the ride feel a whole lot better.
13:52 It's smooth, yet it has a slight sporty feel in the corners and all of that stuff and on
13:59 Indian roads, you deal with a lot of potholes, speed breakers and all of that.
14:03 The scooter took it with absolute ease.
14:06 The Ather 450S was shocking in a very good way and I was honestly super impressed by
14:12 the rear suspension as the travel of the suspension and the feel of the seating over bumps and
14:19 everything was very comfortable.
14:22 I didn't feel like I was being pushed into the seat or being thrown off the seat, I always
14:28 felt planted on the scooter.
14:30 So yeah, all I can say is that it was a very positive experience riding the Ather 450S
14:37 and I hope to ride it more often.
14:39 This is Vedant Johari, signing out.
