Bangladesh hero Shakib Al Hasan called his side’s seven-wicket ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 victory over West Indies as “one of the best” wins and insisted his side are now ready to spring an upset on heavyweights Australia on Friday. Set 322 to win by West Indies, Bangladesh produced the highest successful run chase of the tournament so far but Shakib said his side had belief all along they could win. The stylish left-hander’s unbeaten 124 off 99 balls was the fastest of his nine ODI centuries and helped Bangladesh stroll home with 8.3 overs to spare. (Video courtesy: ICC)

00:00 What was the belief at the mid-innings break?
00:08 And second, is that the best you played in one day, just seeing that this is a World
00:13 Cup?
00:14 I thought at the end of the first innings in the dressing room, no one felt that this
00:22 will be tough.
00:23 Everyone was comfortable and was chilling.
00:26 So that I think gave a lot of confidence in the dressing room and belief that we can chase
00:31 that run.
00:33 Once we started batting, I think the way the opener started their innings, everyone in
00:39 the dressing room felt good and comfortable and relaxed.
00:42 That helped us a lot, in the dressing room especially, that everyone was feeling comfortable.
00:48 So no point of time we had to panic.
00:52 So that was the best part of this chase, I think.
00:56 I've been batting well.
00:57 I don't know if this is the best I have been batting or not.
01:02 But so far it's going well and finger crossed, I hope it continues.
01:09 Couple of questions.
01:10 When Litton came in, it was three down at that time and three of those wickets fell.
01:15 It was not their day, in a way.
01:18 What was the talk like?
01:19 Because it was his first World Cup game.
01:20 And second question is, obviously he asked about whether this is your best innings or
01:26 not.
01:27 But you've obviously made the World Cup a fun tournament to watch with your four innings
01:30 and your bowling and the whole impact.
01:32 Do you feel that way as well?
01:36 At this moment, yes.
01:37 I've been contributing well with both ball, bat and with my leadership.
01:42 And it's been key to our team.
01:46 I'd love to continue because there are four more games left.
01:50 And if we have to play safe, we have to play our best cricket.
01:54 And everyone needs to contribute and chip in.
01:57 At this moment, I'm doing well.
01:58 So I need to make sure that I keep on doing what I've been doing.
02:06 So the talk was, I knew the wicket was good.
02:08 And I told him that if we stay at the wicket, we can finish the game with three down.
02:17 After I think 10, 15 balls, the way he batted, I think it was straight to watch.
02:23 I enjoyed his batting from the non-striker end.
02:28 He never put me under pressure during the chase.
02:31 So that was the best part, I think, in his innings.
02:34 And first match in the World Cup, coming into the team after three or four games, it's not
02:41 an easy situation for a player.
02:43 But the way he handled the pressure was brilliant.
02:46 I was determined.
02:48 I wanted to do well.
02:49 I wanted to contribute for the team.
02:52 And as I said, it's been going well.
02:54 That doesn't mean I can take anything for granted.
02:57 There are four more matches to be played.
03:00 And hopefully, if we qualify.
03:04 As I said, at this moment, it's been going well.
03:07 I need to just make sure that I stay fresh, stay relaxed, and enjoy what's been going
03:13 on and keep on focusing on my game plan.
03:16 At this moment, I'm seeing the ball really well.
03:21 I think it is one of the key parts of my batting that I've been watching the ball really well
03:26 at this moment.
03:28 And I'm getting more time when I'm batting.
03:31 So it's been helping me a lot.
03:34 But I keep on saying one thing, that there are at least four more matches left, and it's
03:42 the midway of the tournament.
03:44 So I have to be patient.
03:47 I have to start every inning the way I've been starting.
03:51 I think it will be obviously one of the best.
03:56 Because the way we chase that run, the way I pace the innings, I was never in a rush.
04:04 I didn't have to play too many shots from a good ball.
04:09 So I had to wait.
04:11 I had to be patient enough.
04:13 And I was patient enough to put the bad ball away.
04:16 I needed to make sure that when I play, I had to put away the bad ball.
04:25 And I think every time I did that quite well.
04:28 And it's one of the key things in my batting in this stage.
04:33 Shakib, the way that you as a team rode your luck and were aggressive and were prepared
04:40 to take risks early on in the innings particularly and against a short ball attack.
04:46 So what do you take from that into your next game against Australia, who also have a pretty
04:51 powerful fast bowler?
04:52 Yeah, we've been facing some of the best fast bowlers in the last four matches.
05:00 Every team got at least two bowlers who bowled 140 plus.
05:05 And we have been coping up well.
05:07 So we're not worried about that because we played England, we played West Indies.
05:13 Both the teams got 140, 150 plus bowlers.
05:16 So I think pace will worry us.
05:19 We just need to do our basics right.
05:22 I think we're a skilled team and we are capable enough to counter those challenges.
05:29 Shakib, from a bowling perspective, you restricted a powerful West Indies batting line-up to
05:35 I think four runs and over for the first 20 overs.
05:38 First of all, how much confidence do you take from that?
05:40 And secondly, how important was it to have somebody in Courtney Walsh, a West Indies
05:44 legend behind the scenes, devising tactics for this particular attack?
05:48 I think both the new ball bowlers bowled brilliantly today.
05:53 We didn't give them any easy ball to hit.
05:58 It's been key to our success, especially in our bowling department.
06:03 And spinners, every time they come in, they chip in with a wicket or they restrict runs.
06:08 So we know that if everyone does their job, especially in bowling, and the fielders backed
06:15 it up, we have a decent ODI bowling attack.
06:19 We might not have the pace like England or Australia, but all the bowlers, they have
06:24 the skill.
06:25 Yes, we need a little bit of help from the wicket or maybe a little bit of luck.
06:30 That's what we need.
06:32 And at this moment, we're getting it.
06:35 I'm hoping that we'll get those small things in our favour and we can do well.
06:43 West Indies bowled very short.
06:45 Do you think they bowled too many short balls?
06:48 They bowled, I think, two areas.
06:50 Either they were full or they were short.
06:53 We knew that it was going to come and we prepared for those challenges.
06:59 So I thought we could play really well today.
07:02 So we could play our shots, we could play our shots in gaps.
07:08 Everyone had their own ways to adjust those short balls.
07:13 And I think everyone had their particular game plan, which worked brilliantly.
