A nationwide housing crisis and an aging population means more and more people are facing uncertain living conditions in their later years. A new report reveals the extent to which affordable housing is becoming more out of reach for older people.

00:05 That's working with the banks, working with the Federal Government to work out how we can support those people with new schemes.
00:12 We need absolutely to get national consistency over residential tenancy reforms,
00:18 so that the private rental sector can become a better place to age.
00:22 And also, of course, we need more social housing, that's more public and community housing.
00:28 The current national plan, all of the deliberations and the work that's going towards that is welcome,
00:37 but what we're hearing at the moment are sort of early steps. It's not enough.
00:41 We need more investment, direct investment into social housing, community housing, public housing, urgently now, including for older people.
00:51 And really taking into account the type of housing that older people need. They need no stairs, they need modifications.
