00:00 "You stay with one guy?"
00:00 "Exactly. I'm with you, and I'm with you, and I don't want anybody else."
00:06 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10
00:12 best crime movie couples.
00:13 "The bag with all the envelopes and all the money."
00:16 "Don't worry about that, nobody's gonna steal that here."
00:20 For this list, we'll be looking at the most legendary dastardly duos who love to be bad.
00:26 If we missed any of your favorite outlaws on the run, let us know in the comments.
00:30 Number 10. John and Jane Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
00:36 "I just dropped in. Hey doll, thanks for giving me the shaft."
00:40 "Nice. So what did you decide?"
00:44 Even forgetting all the behind-the-scenes drama that came with it, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
00:49 caused a splash in the crime couple cinema world. The movie wasn't a huge hit among critics,
00:54 but that box office doesn't lie. Audiences were loving the chemistry between Brad Pitt
00:59 and Angelina Jolie.
01:01 "Because we were leading separate lives, or was it all the lying that did us in?"
01:04 "I have a theory, newly formed."
01:08 "I'm breathless to hear it."
01:09 "You killed us."
01:11 "For what could I?"
01:12 The pair stars as a married couple who lead secret lives as assassins,
01:16 each working for different firms. To their surprise, their next assignment ends up being
01:21 to kill one another. What follows is two hours of gun-packed foreplay and flirtation.
01:27 What more could we ask for?
01:29 "But you can handle it, together."
01:30 "So far."
01:32 "Yes we can."
01:33 "So far?"
01:34 "Leaving room for the unknown."
01:40 Number 9. Mickey Knox and Mallory Wilson Knox. Natural-born killers.
01:45 "Of course I'll marry you. I've been waiting for you to say that for so long."
01:50 "But where are we gonna get married?"
01:53 "Right here, man. It's not true."
01:56 In Natural-born Killers, satire and style come together to create a truly singular cinematic
02:02 experience. Still, the film would be nothing without the chemistry between stars Woody
02:07 Harrelson and Juliette Lewis. The actors play Mickey and Mallory Knox, a married couple of
02:13 mass murderers who become sensationalized for their violent acts of terror.
02:17 "But they always leave one clerk alive to tell the tale of Mickey and Mallory."
02:25 We wouldn't say that the Knoxes' relationship is a healthy one per se, but their toxicity
02:35 and violent tendencies make for a car crash of a romance that you can't help but rubberneck over.
02:41 These two go balls to the wall in everything, including life and death.
02:46 "And I've been thinking about motherhood.
02:48 So I think me and Mickey are gonna get started on that as quickly as possible."
02:54 Number 8. Clarence Worley and Alabama Whitman. True Romance.
02:59 "It's just after I see a movie, I like to go get a piece of pie and talk about it.
03:02 Sort of a little tradition I have. Do you like to get pie after you see a good movie?"
03:07 "Yeah, I love to get pie after a movie."
03:11 One of the best types of crime couples is the lovable fools who probably shouldn't have gotten
03:16 mixed up in all this in the first place. That's the type of couple that Clarence Worley and
03:20 Alabama Whitman are in Tony Scott's True Romance.
03:24 "Come for the morning tea, Miss Worley."
03:25 "Bottom of the ninth, Mr. Worley. By the way, have you seen your lovely little wife today?"
03:30 "Are you speaking to my beautiful, charming, sexy wife, Mrs. Alabama Worley?"
03:33 "Why, are there any others, Mr. Worley?"
03:34 "No. None for me, no."
03:36 Everything about Clarence and Alabama is a bit of an accident. They accidentally fall in love,
03:41 accidentally find themselves wrapped up in a murder, and then accidentally steal a bunch of
03:46 an illegal substance that someone else stole from the mob. This series of accidents sends them on a
03:52 whirlwind run for their lives, but all that danger doesn't stop them from falling deeper in love.
03:58 "My thoughts were so clear and true. That three words went through my mind endlessly,
04:03 repeating themselves like a broken record. You're so cruel."
04:09 Number 7. Jack Foley and Karen Sisco. Out of Sight.
04:13 "And I came here to call in a customer, but they gave me a hard time because I'm a girl."
04:17 "Is that how you think of yourself?"
04:18 "As a sales rep?"
04:20 "As a girl."
04:21 "Yeah, I don't have a problem with it."
04:22 "I like your hair. I like your outfit."
04:24 We've thought about this a lot, but there aren't many cinematic couples we can think of who have
04:29 the type of sizzling chemistry that George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez have in this movie.
04:34 Out of Sight coasts on the pair's magnetism as they bring it to life.
04:38 Clooney plays Jack Foley, a bank robber who ends up kidnapping
04:42 Lopez's U.S. Marshal Karen Sisco during a prison break.
04:45 "I wonder what would happen."
04:46 "Nothing."
04:47 "If you didn't know who I was."
04:48 "You'd probably tell me."
04:50 "You say we met under different circumstances."
04:52 "You have got to be kidding."
04:53 There's no love lost between the two at first, but their game of cat and mouse
04:58 slowly draws the two together until they can't hold themselves back.
05:02 "We could take a time out."
05:04 "I was thinking the same thing. I kept thinking, what if we took a time out?
05:10 If we... because just spent some time together."
05:14 Truly the raw attraction between Lopez and Clooney in this movie gives us heart palpitations.
05:19 Number six, H.I. and Ed McDonough, Raising Arizona.
05:24 "What kind of name is Ed for a pretty thing like you?"
05:27 "Short boy, Adwina, turn to the right!"
05:29 "You're a flower, you are."
05:32 "Just a little desert flower."
05:34 No one else could make kidnapping such a nuanced story.
05:37 H.I. and Ed McDonough don't make much sense on paper.
05:41 He's an ex-convict, she's an ex-police officer.
05:44 But at the beginning of Raising Arizona, the two start a life of wedded bliss.
05:48 "That was beautiful."
05:49 "So we worked at it on the days we calculated most likely to be fruitful."
05:53 "Honey."
05:54 "And we worked at it most other days just to be sure."
05:57 There's just one thing missing, and that's a child.
06:01 Unfortunately, the two can't have a kid on their own,
06:03 so they resort to the next best thing, kidnapping.
06:06 After the duo commits the crime, they spend the course of the film learning about love
06:11 and parenthood, of course, with a healthy dose of hijinks and retribution thrown in for good measure.
06:17 "I took him, sir. My wife had nothing to do with it. I crept in yon window and-"
06:22 "We both did it. We didn't want to hurt him, Annie. I just wanted to be a mama."
06:28 Number 5. Kit Carruthers and Holly Sargis.
06:31 Badlands.
06:32 This crime couple is loosely based on a real-life story,
06:35 but director Terrence Malick takes that negative truth and creates an American classic.
06:40 "I don't know, wanna take a walk with me?"
06:42 "What for?"
06:44 "Oh, I got some stuff to say. Guess I'm kinda lucky that way.
06:48 Most people don't have anything on their minds, do they?"
06:52 Badlands stars Sissy Spacek as Holly Sargis, a young girl with a troubled home life.
06:57 When she meets the older Kit Carruthers, played by Martin Sheen,
07:01 his tendency for violence burrows its way into her life.
07:04 "Okay, boy. I'm turning you over to the authorities."
07:08 "What for?"
07:11 "Coming on my property with a gun."
07:13 After Kit kills Holly's father, the two fake their own deaths and run away together.
07:18 As they engage in more crime, their tirade turns into a desperate chase to get away from
07:23 law enforcement, and their relationship slowly starts to dissolve,
07:27 the reality of what they've done sinking in.
07:30 "Don't worry now, I'm gonna get you off these charges.
07:31 There's a whole lot of other boys out there waiting for you.
07:35 You're gonna have a lot of fun."
07:37 Number 4.
07:38 Henry and Karen Hill - Goodfellas
07:40 "I remember, she's screaming on the street, and I mean loud, but she looked good."
07:45 "Now think about it, she's gonna have pushed you, Hill. She's gonna have pushed you a lot."
07:49 Started from the bottom, now we're here.
07:51 And then back to the bottom again.
07:53 Karen Friedman meets Henry Hill when he's just a lowly gangster,
07:57 but as Goodfellas progresses, so does the arc and ultimate tragedy of their relationship.
08:02 Karen doesn't approve of Henry's involvement with the mafia,
08:05 but she's ultimately just as seduced by the money and glamour as he is.
08:10 "He was an exciting guy. It was really nice. He introduced me to everybody.
08:17 Everybody wanted to be nice to him, and he knew how to handle it."
08:21 As Henry loses his standing in the family, their relationship starts to deteriorate,
08:26 and Karen sees her own position sinking. While Karen isn't nearly as deep in as Henry is,
08:32 she's still drawn to crime for many of the same reasons.
08:35 They're a match made in law-breaking heaven.
08:37 "The truth was that no matter how bad I felt, I was still very attracted to him.
08:46 Why should I give him to someone else?"
08:48 Number 3. Ace Rothstein and Ginger McKenna. Casino.
08:52 If there's anyone who can go toe-to-toe with Robert De Niro when it comes to turning it up to 10,
08:57 it's Sharon Stone.
08:58 "I'm going, I want my money right now!"
09:00 "I'll get your money, don't worry."
09:02 "The arrangement is over!"
09:03 "No kidding. No kidding!"
09:05 When it comes to the structure of Casino, it's a lot like Goodfellas,
09:08 following the rise and fall of a crime mogul.
09:11 But the central couple in this case, De Niro and Stone, is very different.
09:15 Ginger McKenna, Mafia man Ace Rothstein's eventual wife,
09:19 feels more involved in the main plot of the film.
09:22 When you put them in a room together, you better believe it'll explode in one way or another.
09:27 "I'll sign anything you want me to sign, okay?
09:30 I just want the key to my jewelry and I want you to let me go."
09:32 "You want your jewelry?"
09:33 "I want you to let me go."
09:34 "And what, I'm letting you disgrace me?"
09:35 Stone and De Niro almost play an acting game of chicken with each other on screen.
09:40 You never know who's going to back down first.
09:42 "You're gonna be sorry if you don't stop that."
09:44 "Don't you threaten me! Don't you threaten me!
09:46 You are not threatening me anymore!"
09:50 Number 2. Veronica Sawyer and Jason J.D. Dean.
09:55 Heathers.
09:56 "Hello, Jason Dean."
09:57 "Greetings and salutations.
10:00 You a Heather?"
10:02 "No, I'm a Veronica."
10:06 Time to let the teens have a say.
10:07 Over the years, Heathers has become one of the cultiest cult classics out there,
10:12 and a lot of that fervor has to do with the almost
10:14 feral relationship between Veronica Sawyer and Jason Dean.
10:18 "Oh my god, I can't believe it. I just killed my best friend."
10:25 "And your worst enemy."
10:26 Now, J.D. is definitely the ringleader out of this duo when it comes to murder,
10:31 but it did take Veronica three dead bodies to break up with him,
10:34 so she's not getting the pass that easy.
10:37 Veronica does ultimately take things into her own hands,
10:40 resulting in a final standoff between her and J.D. that's gone down in cinematic history.
10:46 "People are gonna look at the ashes of Westenburg and say,
10:48 'Now there is a school that self-destructed not because society didn't care,
10:52 but because the school was society.'"
10:56 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:00 Annie Starr and Bart Terre.
11:02 Gun Crazy.
11:03 Spouses Who Kill Together, Stay Together.
11:05 "He had no idea he was getting the first shot."
11:07 "Pete Lund and Kitty Collins. The Killers.
11:20 One of the hottest noir couples in the history of the genre."
11:24 "I don't care harming him."
11:25 "You're not meeting him tomorrow."
11:31 Charles Driggs and Lulu. Something Wild.
11:36 Screwball Crime is Still Crime.
11:39 "Let me guess, sometimes you don't pay for your lunch.
11:42 Or maybe you steal the occasional candy bar or newspaper.
11:46 You're a closet rebel."
11:50 Sailor Ripley and Lula Fortune.
11:53 Wild at Heart.
11:54 Lovers on the Run.
11:56 "Well, I know you'd rather go.
12:00 Darling, I'll be home.
12:03 So lonely."
12:08 Doc and Carol McCoy.
12:10 The Getaway.
12:11 Bank Robbing Never Looked So Good.
12:13 "Well, what are we gonna do about it?"
12:15 "Maybe we should split up.
12:16 Or cut up the money with you."
12:19 "Do you mean that?"
12:23 "Yeah, I mean it."

12:38 Number 1. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.
12:43 Bonnie and Clyde.
12:45 "Hey, what's your name anyhow?"
12:47 "Clyde Barrow."
12:48 "Hi, I'm Bonnie Parker. Pleased to meet you."
12:51 The crime couple who all other crime couples aspire to, there's just something about Bonnie
12:57 and Clyde. Their legend has lived on in the American consciousness for decades,
13:01 and with 1967's Bonnie and Clyde, it was cemented in the cinematic one as well.
13:07 Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway star as the titular duo,
13:10 cultivating their image as one of the hottest couples ever.
13:13 You know, if you're into breaking the law.
13:15 "Look, I figure it's a good idea to ask, because how else you gonna know if,
13:21 you know..."
13:21 "You didn't just perfect."
13:25 Director Arthur Penn commits their robberies and getaways to screen in a way that definitely
13:30 glorifies the couple. They're beautiful and dangerous, a couple of all-American mavericks
13:36 on the run.
13:36 "You gonna wear 'em like that?"
13:38 "Drive with one eye closed. Want some ice cream?"
13:43 "No. Look here, honey. Isn't that just the prettiest thing you ever saw?"
