00:02 - What's up?
00:06 - What do you see about this secondary's kind of ability
00:12 trying to come together here as the season comes close?
00:15 - I think we do a good job of building camaraderie
00:18 and building our brotherhood and sticking to one,
00:23 you know what I'm saying?
00:23 Helping each other out with plays and stuff like that.
00:25 We do a good job of keeping each other up
00:27 and stuff like that.
00:28 And we build them.
00:30 - Sam, your second year in the system,
00:32 how much better are you just 'cause you came into camp
00:34 knowing the system and not learning it?
00:37 - Me personally, I think it's just a lot easier.
00:39 It comes a lot more secondhand.
00:42 It's very great right now.
00:48 Just coming in, knowing the play style that we
00:50 are looking for and stuff like that.
00:54 - What are the benefits of having joint practices?
00:57 I guess the team like 49ers here over the next couple days.
01:00 - To compete against a different team,
01:03 see a different scheme,
01:04 go against a different quarterback.
01:07 The competition will rise up a little bit.
01:10 These are all good things that we look forward to.
01:13 - Sam, what'd you think about going against Jimmy today?
01:15 It looked like he was gotten a little bit of a rhythm,
01:18 starting to shake that rust off.
01:20 Your thoughts?
01:21 - I got high expectations for Jimmy.
01:23 He's a good quarterback and we all know
01:25 that he can get it done.
01:27 - What are some things you did this off season
01:30 to help you prepare for your second season?
01:32 - Honestly, just a lot of mental work.
01:36 We all know that we all got the physical attributes
01:38 to do it.
01:39 So I was just working more on my mental skills
01:41 and stuff like that.
01:42 - How many conversations against you have you had
01:45 with Marcus and what do you think he brings,
01:46 or Marcus Peters, what do you think he brings to your room?
01:49 What can you learn from him?
01:50 - You know, he's a older vet that I think brings a,
01:55 you know, a type of a certain swagger
01:58 and intelligence to the room.
02:00 And, you know, he's just good people too, as well.
02:02 So it's nice being around him.
02:05 - What are your expectations for yourself this season?
02:10 - I mean, I've always thought highly of myself,
02:13 whether I'm in a good position or bad.
02:15 I got high expectations for myself
02:19 that exceed anybody else's.
02:21 'Cause, you know, I gotta believe in myself
02:23 before anybody else does.
02:25 - Do you look at your death chart
02:27 and kind of see where you might fit in?
02:29 Are you worried about competition that way
02:30 as far as camp goes?
02:32 - No, not really.
02:33 I mean, we all kind of work,
02:34 and as long as I know I'm staying available,
02:36 then that's my best ability.
02:38 You know what I'm saying?
02:39 - Sam, last year you talked to me about
02:43 perfecting the perfect craft.
02:44 And what does that look like to you
02:46 as you head into year two
02:47 as a draft rookie free agent last year?
02:49 - To me, it's just staying consistent,
02:53 perfecting the little things that we always talk about
02:55 every single day, and not getting bored of it.
02:57 - How would you assess your first season?
03:01 Do you kind of take time in the off season
03:03 to look back and study yourself?
03:04 Or how do you kind of break it down?
03:06 How much do you think about how last year went?
03:09 - I think about it a little bit,
03:10 but I try not to dwell on the past.
03:12 I use it more of a motivation,
03:14 and I try to just learn from my mistakes, really.
03:21 - So, sorry if this might catch you off guard,
03:23 it's a little bit off topic question,
03:24 but through training camp the last couple of weeks,
03:27 you guys have had a bunch of high school football teams
03:29 come through here, and I talked to some coaches,
03:31 they got a lot out of it.
03:32 I'd really like to watch you guys work.
03:34 You're still a young guy, you're not that far removed from it.
03:36 How much would you have enjoyed that experience?
03:38 And are those type of community things
03:40 cool to you to be a part of?
03:41 - Oh yeah, absolutely.
03:42 As you know, I went to Missouri Western,
03:44 where we held the Chiefs training camp,
03:45 and a lot of high schoolers would come in,
03:47 and it was just nice to be able to connect with them too
03:50 on the college level.
03:51 So I think it's important for the youth
03:53 to be able to see guys coming from every direction,
03:56 and still make it to the league and stuff like that.
03:58 - All right, thanks.
04:01 - Thank you, Sam.
