00:03 All right, we're out here in Vegas, the sun is shining.
00:06 It is over 100 degrees now.
00:08 It was in the 90s this morning when the Raiders practiced.
00:10 We got five takeaways from out there.
00:11 Takeaway number one, if there's one area that needed to be addressed over the course
00:15 of this offseason here, it's probably the middle of the defense.
00:18 And at every level, the Raiders have addressed it.
00:21 It's safety, Trayvon Maring, a third year player out of TCU,
00:25 looks like he's ready to take a step forward.
00:27 He's really benefited from the addition of Marcus Epps, who comes over from Philly.
00:31 At safety, Marig looks like he's playing faster, more confidently,
00:35 a versatile piece for them on defense.
00:36 At linebacker, similar dynamic.
00:38 Rob Spillane comes over from Pittsburgh.
00:40 He's stabilized the spot, and he's helping a young player in Devine Diablo along.
00:44 And then a defensive tackle, they have some things to work out, but
00:47 they do feel like they've got seven or
00:48 eight players who can really play at this level at that position.
00:52 Takeaway number two, the corner position is another position that needs to be
00:56 figured out, they feel good about Marcus Peters at one corner spot.
00:59 They've got Nate Hobbs and Tyler Hall competing in the slot.
01:02 They think both those guys can play.
01:04 Who plays the other corner is gonna be the question.
01:06 And one name to kinda keep an eye on, fourth round pick,
01:09 Ja'Cory and Bennett out of Maryland.
01:11 Takeaway number three, the offensive line on the other side of the ball would be
01:14 the area to watch.
01:15 It might be the swing factor on how the offense plays this year.
01:19 And there are open position battles at both right guard and right tackle.
01:22 At right guard, you got Alex Bars, Greg Van Roten, and
01:25 Nitain Moody battling for playing time.
01:27 And at right tackle is Jermaine Illuminor, Thayer Mumford, and
01:30 a couple of other guys.
01:32 Again, how those position battles play out could go a long way in determining where
01:36 the Raiders are in December and January.
01:39 Takeaway number four, Jimmy Garoppolo has been up and
01:41 down, as you've heard, in training camp.
01:43 But a big part of that is that he hasn't even practiced much,
01:46 going all the way back to December, when he injured his foot.
01:50 And so they're trying to knock the rust off.
01:51 He's got good chemistry already with Devontae Adams.
01:54 And they feel like as he gets healthier, and they're prioritizing his health now,
01:58 he'll get more comfortable running an offense that he ran for
02:01 four years in New England.
02:03 And behind Garoppolo, Aiden O'Connell has really turned some heads.
02:07 The hype is real on him.
02:09 He's really a mature player who's impressed his teammates and
02:12 coaches with his ability to operate at the line of scrimmage as a rookie.
02:16 And finally, takeaway number five, a little bit of an injury update.
02:19 The Raiders do expect Tyree Wilson, their first round pick,
02:22 back on the field at some point over the next two weeks.
02:25 Whether or not he'll play week one, we'll see.
02:27 But they're encouraged by his progress now.
02:29 And everybody in the building knows what he can bring to the table physically, and
02:32 they're very excited about that.
02:34 That's it for me from the Raiders.
02:35 Tomorrow, we're headed to Denver.
