The big boss Chris Holt is sunning himself elsewhere so The Star Owls podcast is left to the kids this week, with Alex Miller discussing all from Colombian Carabao chaos to why we can see Lee Bullen eating a witchetty grub with no issues.

Situations of Smith and Johnson discussed, a little transfer chat; it's all your usual Owls chat with a dollop of nonsense thrown in.

00:00 So looking forward, Joe, to Hull City.
00:03 At some point, one of us is going
00:04 to have to do a predicted 11 for the website on this.
00:07 And I think it's your turn, which is probably a good thing,
00:11 because I still don't have a clue.
00:13 We did speak last night about the fact
00:14 that Barry Bannon and Will Vaux both played 90 minutes.
00:17 Now, it could be that they were meant to play an hour,
00:20 they were meant to play a half.
00:22 Barry has certainly spoken at length about the need
00:24 to get used to the roles and responsibilities
00:27 that he's been given by Chisco.
00:30 But 90 minutes on Tuesday, so early in the season,
00:34 he can't possibly be thinking about leaving those two out
00:37 at Hull, can he?
00:38 You wouldn't have thought so.
00:39 You know, speaking to him afterwards about Barry
00:43 specifically, he was talking about how important he is,
00:46 like his technical ability, the fact
00:48 that he can play a little bit further back like he did
00:50 last night, or higher up as he has done
00:52 over the course of preseason so far.
00:56 I don't see how Wednesday go to Hull and don't use him.
01:02 And obviously Vaux has been a key player
01:05 in that sort of defensive mid-role as well.
01:08 And obviously he did go, he went for more 4-4-2
01:11 against Stockport than in other games
01:14 where he's done sort of 4-1-4-1.
01:17 But yeah, I think, look, it's early enough in the season,
01:19 isn't it?
01:19 You know, it's early enough in the season
01:20 that you're not sort of overloading players.
01:22 So I would still think that they would be playing
01:25 against Hull.
01:27 But in terms of the rest of the team,
01:31 it's just really difficult to say.
01:33 I think you obviously, you're going to see your Josh Windass
01:37 and I think with Callum Paterson,
01:39 after the way he played, he'll be coming back in.
01:43 There was no Michael Ecquart at all in the squad the other night.
01:46 Michael Smith was meant to start, and then obviously
01:48 he said that he was ill, so he didn't play.
01:51 He could be back in contention for the whole game.
01:55 It just, yeah.
01:58 Also, in terms of the new players that have come in,
02:02 you know, they're all still getting up to speed.
02:04 A lot of them haven't had full pre-seasons
02:06 for Wednesday, well, most of them haven't had full pre-seasons
02:08 for Wednesday.
02:09 So you never know what he's going to look to do
02:13 when it gets to the nitty-gritty of Championship games again,
02:17 especially as I'm sure he grows increasingly aware
02:21 that there's only so long that, you know,
02:25 you can talk about progression without the results following.
02:30 Talk to me about Marvin Johnson.
02:31 He's one that you didn't mention there.
02:33 Left out of the squad for the second game running.
02:36 I think we all sort of assumed that this might be a game
02:38 that he might come in for,
02:40 and ever-present under Deren Moore, wasn't he?
02:42 I think, I mean, without checking the numbers,
02:45 I would wager he might have been the biggest appearance holder
02:48 under Deren Moore, given there were injuries here and there
02:50 for about a month.
02:53 Yeah, yeah.
02:54 Yeah.
02:55 I think he's played almost 100 games in two years.
02:59 That's it?
03:00 Yeah, I think 96 appearances.
03:02 Yeah, assists galore,
03:06 and certainly a very steadfast member of that Moore set-up.
03:11 But as we said last week, you know, with regard to other players,
03:14 new managers come in, new ideas, things can change.
03:17 How do you read the current situation with marvellous Marvin Johnson?
03:22 Yeah, it's a bit sad, really, because obviously, like I say,
03:27 Marvin was brilliant last season.
03:30 I think it was only Smith and Windas who got more goals
03:33 and assists than he did last time out.
03:35 Obviously, some very, very important ones as well along the way.
03:40 And I think the most, I suppose, worrying thing from Marvin's perspective
03:46 is the fact that you had, like, Sean Fosera and Bailey Kadamari
03:50 on the bench in the Cup last night over him,
03:53 because obviously the manager said it's not down to injury,
03:56 it's purely a selection thing.
03:58 And obviously, having just signed a new contract,
04:01 it's not an ideal situation to be in for Marvin, is it?
