00:03 An Alabama mom going viral for her rant
00:05 about her millennial Gen Z kids.
00:07 But not for the reason you might think.
00:09 She says that she feels helpless as a parent
00:12 as the American dream becomes increasingly difficult
00:14 for younger generations to attain.
00:16 I am so tired of feeling helpless as a parent.
00:21 Yes, my kids are grown adults.
00:24 My oldest is 28, my youngest is 25.
00:26 And I thought by teaching them what I learned,
00:29 which is you work hard, you get a good job,
00:32 you're gonna get the things in life that you need, right?
00:34 Worked for me, why wouldn't it work for them?
00:36 'Cause it doesn't.
00:37 Because the world has (beep) changed.
00:39 Yes, I understand struggling is a part of life.
00:41 We all struggled, but there's a difference
00:43 between struggling and drowning.
00:46 No kid.
00:47 And Jessica McCabe, who went viral, joins us live.
00:50 Jessica, good morning to ya.
00:51 Good morning.
00:52 Good morning.
00:53 I understand in the aftermath,
00:56 you've been slammed by a lot of Gen Xers
00:59 who thought that the comments were inappropriate,
01:01 but your son, who read some of the comments,
01:04 actually feels like he's less alone.
01:06 There are a lot of people in the same boat.
01:08 Yes, and I think that's one thing
01:10 that we need to take away from
01:11 is that it's not 1988 anymore.
01:13 We have to, as parents, realize that the economy has changed.
01:17 I understand inflation, prices always go up,
01:20 but I think that lately the wages are not keeping up
01:22 with how big the inflation has gotten
01:24 and we have to listen to our children.
01:27 We're looking at these beautiful pictures.
01:29 Gosh, you have gorgeous kids
01:30 and it looks like a grandchild there too.
01:33 What was your reaction to 11 million people
01:36 can relate to this and viewed this?
01:38 That was a little unexpected
01:41 because honestly the reason why I made the video
01:43 is 'cause I was so frustrated.
01:44 I went out yet again with my son
01:46 to go try to find an apartment he can afford
01:48 and we just kept getting backdrops.
01:51 Half the places I felt like should have been condemned
01:53 that he could afford and the other half,
01:56 they were wanting four times your rent.
01:57 They wanted you to show that you can make four times that.
02:01 So it was getting frustrated,
02:02 but I hear all the other Gen Zs and millennials
02:04 in my comments saying that they finally feel seen
02:07 because I think us as Gen X,
02:09 we forget that it's not the same as it is now for our kids
02:14 and we think what we did is they should be able to too
02:16 and we need to be their advocate.
02:17 I didn't have kids to watch them suffer their entire life.
02:20 Right, and real quick,
02:22 are your kids gonna change careers?
02:24 What's your advice to them?
02:26 What have they learned from this, Jessica?
02:28 It is frustrating 'cause he went to college
02:30 and I understand that most places won't experience EO
02:33 even though you had a college degree.
02:35 So the first job that he got right out of college
02:37 was only paying $19 an hour.
02:38 Now that's better than minimum wage,
02:41 but even since being there,
02:42 he's gotten a raise, another $22 an hour.
02:45 That used to be a good amount when I was growing up.
02:49 Yeah, me too.
02:49 Each dollar of promotion lets you live
02:51 and how come it doesn't?
02:51 Well, we've got your video on foxandfriends.com.
02:56 Jessica, thank you very much for joining us live.
