This poor nyala is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either it faces a pack of wild dogs on land or retreats to the water where hippos and crocodiles lurk beneath the surface! Which would you take your chances with? This unbelievable sighting played out at Royal Malewane in the Greater Kruger.

Field guide, Wayne Myburgh was lucky enough to witness this action-filled moment and shared the story with LatestSightings.com:

"It was a usual morning drive and we heard the wild dogs had just chased a nyala bull into Quelea Dam. Knowing about the presence of a crocodile and about 12 hippos that live there we knew it could get interesting and made our way there."

"Obviously, on the way my adrenaline was pumping, because I knew the potential of all the outcomes this sighting could have."

The nyala bull got chased by the wild dogs and retreated to the water deciding that this was the safest spot to avoid becoming a meal. However, whilst trying to defend itself from the dogs, a hippo attacked it from behind to defend its territory. Luckily for the nyala, it managed to scare the huge hippo off with its pointy horns, but just as the battle with the hippo was won, this helpless nyala had a crocodile to contend with! What a difficult day to be this nyala!

"After guiding for 13 years it was so awesome to experience something you have never witnessed before. Definitely always try to get some footage - but don't forget to put the camera down and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
