00:00 The current dance alliance is wrapping up their seventh annual books in motion program. It's made to improve literacy in Kern County through dance

00:14 Yeah guys within the past month Kern County dancers have been performing in
00:19 Libraries with the hopes of inspiring kids to embrace reading books in motion is almost coming to an end
00:25 But we still have a few more dance groups to shine a light on and this week. We are bringing the spotlight to spotlight
00:31 We are a an arts academy here in Bakersfield
00:37 We're actually a 501c3 nonprofit organization
00:41 And what we do is we focus on providing training for the kids in our community and all areas of the arts like we can
00:48 We do dance we do theater music choir all kinds of classes for spotlights books in motion performances
00:54 They have two groups the dance department which performs cinder gorilla and the musical theater department

01:02 Shreda Rahone Rodriguez the director of spotlight dance says that their yearly books in motion performances are an Academy favorite

01:15 You know the first time that we were a part of it
01:18 We fell in love with the program like our kids
01:20 Love to bring these like books to life and we love seeing the interaction with the kids in the audience
01:26 It's a great program to be a part of and interacting with the kids during the books in motion
01:30 Performance was actually what brought one performer from the audience to the stage. I just like dancing and
01:37 When I saw them I just liked starting the dance and now my now
01:42 I like signing up to do dance and stuff and hip-hop and musical theater by performing the books through fun
01:49 choreography and characters the audience watching can better understand the book without the boundary of having to read the words on paper and the
01:57 Performers can continue to do what they love dancing
02:00 I love dancing so much that actually became a teacher at spotlight dance Academy and these are two of my students
02:06 You get to show kids how you dance bring the books to life and also about books in motion
02:11 I love the stuff. I love the crafts and I love dancing
02:16 I love mostly everything about books in motion. And of course in every books in motion spotlight. We've got to get in on the action
02:23 Now books in motion has had 29 performances so far and they aren't done yet
