Senior NFL Reporter Albert Breer shares his five biggest takeaways from Falcons training camp in Flowery Branch, GA.
Transcript
00:00 All right, we're here in Atlanta, the final stop in the driving portion of my training
00:04 camp trip.
00:05 I've driven through nine states, I've been to 10 states, I've seen nine teams.
00:08 I got five takeaways from the Falcons.
00:10 Takeaway number one, Drake London's having a really nice summer.
00:14 He came back playing faster, which is to be expected because he knows more, but he also
00:19 is playing very well away from the ball, which has gotten a lot of people's attention and
00:22 is indicative of the way the Falcons have built that receiver room.
00:26 If you look, they're more versatile now than they were a couple of years ago.
00:29 They have better blockers in there than they did a couple of years ago, and all of that's
00:32 very indicative of the way Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith have built out their receiver
00:37 group.
00:38 Takeaway number two, the competition in the secondary has been fierce.
00:40 The Falcons are deeper at corner, they're deeper at safety.
00:43 The one open spot they got to figure out is the nickel corner position.
00:47 Inside, they've got Mike Hughes, Dee Alford, and rookie Clark Phillips competing for playing
00:52 time.
00:53 And another name that could figure in there is a safety named Jalen Hawkins, who can play
00:57 this slot and has had a fantastic camp, looks like a real playmaker out there in the practice
01:02 field.
01:03 Takeaway number three, the offensive line has a chance to grow into a strength as well
01:06 with so much continuity coming back.
01:08 Four of five starters return.
01:10 Caleb McGarry, the right tackle who they paid, has had a really good camp.
01:14 And the left guard spot seems to be taking shape.
01:17 Matt Hennessey was the starter to start camp, but he got hurt and Matthew Bergeron, the
01:21 rookie from Syracuse, has stepped in and he's already earned the respect of his teammates
01:26 on the offensive and defensive lines with his strength and toughness.
01:30 Takeaway number four, I know you want to hear about B. John Robinson, and he's as advertised,
01:33 a guy who can run inside, a guy who can catch the ball out of the backfield.
01:36 But it's the athletic traits that have really impressed his teammates and coaches.
01:41 He's got a unique ability to stop and start.
01:43 He's also got unique balance out there, and he's going to be a big factor in the Falcons
01:47 offense and looks like he'd be a problem when you pair him with guys like Kyle Pitts and
01:52 of course London.
01:53 And finally, takeaway number five, if you want a camp sleeper, keep an eye on Nate Landman.
01:58 A linebacker, was an undrafted free agent a year ago, made the team out of camp, spent
02:02 some time in the practice squad, has had a really nice summer.
02:06 That's it for us from Atlanta.
02:08 Next stop, all the way out in Seattle.
