00:02 - What's up Kern County?
00:06 It's Ryan Nelson and you are watching Kern Living.
00:09 On today's episode, we're sitting with our family
00:10 and our friends from Omni Family Health,
00:12 but we have a new face to the show,
00:14 so I'm gonna let her introduce herself.
00:15 - Hi, my name's Jenae Newman.
00:17 I'm a registered dental hygienist
00:18 and alternative practice for Omni Family Health.
00:20 - Awesome, so today we are talking about
00:22 National Healthcare Center Week.
00:25 Would you be able to talk to me about what that is?
00:26 - Health centers are safety nets
00:28 in the communities that we serve.
00:29 Our role is to decrease emergency room visits
00:32 and provide preventative care to our community.
00:34 So National Healthcare Center Week is an opportunity
00:37 for healthcare centers around the country
00:39 to do things and hold events, host events
00:42 in the communities that take place
00:44 outside of our clinic walls
00:45 and make an impact on those goals.
00:48 - So I do have to ask on behalf of the people,
00:50 what role do federally qualified health centers
00:52 play in the United States?
00:55 - Our role is that we decrease emergency room visits.
00:57 We do not deny services to anyone
01:01 based on their ability or inability to pay.
01:03 And in that way, we're reducing emergency room visits
01:06 and we're improving the health of the community
01:09 by providing preventative services to those who need it.
01:12 - What will Omni Family Health be doing during this week?
01:15 - We are offering so many valuable services
01:17 to the community this week.
01:19 So if your kindergartner needs an oral assessment,
01:21 which is required by the state of California for enrollment,
01:25 we're providing that for free.
01:26 If you have a lapse in coverage, you need coverage,
01:29 our entire insurance team will be there.
01:32 Also, anyone that comes to see us
01:34 is gonna get a free hygiene kit,
01:35 which includes toothbrush, paste, and floss.
01:38 Oral cancer has increased 50% in the last 20 years.
01:43 And so our device that we are bringing to this event
01:46 receives five layers beneath the surface.
01:49 So early detection is the most important part
01:52 and that's one of the services we'll be offering.
01:54 - Awesome, now if somebody wants to connect
01:55 with Omni Family Health, how can they do that?
01:58 - You could go to omnifamilyhealth.org,
02:00 you can go to our patient portal,
02:02 you can call our 1-800 number, I hope it's on the screen.
02:05 (laughing)
02:06 - It is on the screen, it's on the one right here,
02:08 so make sure you get in contact with Omni Family Health.
02:11 Thank you so much for coming
02:12 and bringing all this wonderful information.
