00:00 A West African bloc gives Niger`s coup leaders an ultimatum - restore the president or face
00:07 the consequences.
00:10 Ukraine`s President Volodymyr Zelensky warns that war is coming back to Moscow following
00:16 the attempted drone attack in the Russian capital.
00:20 Waving Russian flags and chanting "Down with France", thousands of people staged a protest
00:26 outside the French embassy in Niamey on Sunday in support of the junta that took over Niger
00:31 earlier this week.
00:32 Niger`s former colonial ruler, France, has condemned the coup with President Macron warning
00:37 that he would not tolerate any threats to France and its interests.
00:41 The French government has also suspended aid and security cooperation to Niger, demanding
00:46 the return of ousted leader Mohamed Bazoum.
00:49 The situation in Niger remains delicate, with some hostile to any foreign attempts to influence
00:55 affairs.
00:56 I would like also to say to the European Union, African Union and ECOWAS, please, please stay
01:07 out of our business.
01:09 Meanwhile, the West African regional group ECOWAS has warned the junta to cede power
01:13 within a week or face extreme sanctions and possible use of force.
01:22 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that war is coming to Moscow following
01:27 an attempted drone attack in the Russian capital.
01:31 Russia`s defense ministry reported that three Ukrainian drones were downed on Sunday, with
01:36 two crashing into Moscow`s business district.
01:41 At least one person was injured in what the Kremlin described as an attempted terrorist
01:46 attack by the Kiev regime.
01:48 Russian aggression has suffered bankruptcy on the battlefield.
01:53 Today is 522nd day of the so-called special military operation, which the Russian leadership
02:01 has been planning for two weeks.
02:04 Ukraine is getting stronger.
02:06 The war is gradually returning to the territory of Russia, to its symbolic centers and military
02:11 bases.
02:12 And this is an inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process.
02:17 Meanwhile, images of Russia`s latest strike show extensive damage in the city of Sumy
02:22 in northeastern Ukraine.
02:24 Two people were killed and 20 wounded after a Russian missile struck a four-story building
02:30 belonging to a vocational college.
02:32 Zelensky has told government officials he expects Russia to resume its attacks on Ukraine`s
02:37 energy system when the weather gets colder in the autumn.
02:45 The U.K. has announced they will grant hundreds of new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea,
02:51 ignoring calls from environmental campaigners and the United Nations to stop developing
02:55 new fossil fuel projects.
02:57 The country`s prime minister, Rishi Sunak, justified the move by saying the U.K. will
03:00 still need fossil fuels even after it reaches its net zero target.
03:05 And that`s better to rely on domestic production of oil and natural gas rather than relying
03:09 on other countries.
03:11 He further justified the move on Twitter by pointing to the global consequences of Russia`s
03:16 war in Ukraine on the energy sector.
03:19 The new plan also includes a pledge to invest 20 billion pounds in carbon capture and storage
03:23 projects as Sunak maintains his country is still committed to its energy goals.
03:29 The U.K. has pledged to reduce its net carbon emissions by 68 percent by the end of the
03:33 decade and to reach net zero by 2050.
03:39 The government`s climate advisors say the pace of the country`s progress is worryingly
03:43 slow.
03:49 Eastern Poland`s ancient forests, a traditional tourist destination now bristling with military
03:55 hardware.
03:57 Tensions have been ramped up since Russia`s mercenary Wagner Group moved into neighboring
04:02 Belarus.
04:03 "The Polish state has decided to build a barrier along the entire border with Belarus.
04:09 This barrier is constantly being expanded and strengthened.
04:10 Our border is being strengthened in this way.
04:11 We also have an increased Polish-Polish border and a border guard to demonstrate our efficiency
04:12 and readiness for possible defense.
04:13 But I hope it won`t happen.
04:14 We are a member of the North Atlantic Pact.
04:15 We also have allied forces in the country."
04:27 The Ministry of Defense says in addition to the newly organized military unit in Kolno,
04:31 Poland is also reinforcing Gryewo, Szymatysze and Czewonibór.
04:36 While Poland is arming itself against possible provocations from Wagner`s side, tourists are
04:41 changing their holiday plans as a precaution, with some tourism businesses saying visitor
04:46 numbers have halved.
04:47 "It`s not a force that can generate any real danger in this area.
04:48 However, it`s very strongly created by the authorities, which ended the threat from the
04:49 refugees.
04:50 The Wagnerians just appeared as a new threat.

06:55 The EU is to relaunch negotiations with the Philippines on an ambitious free trade deal.
07:02 Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Manila.
07:08 Trade talks with the bloc stalled under his predecessor.
07:12 Our teams will get to work right now on setting the right conditions
07:17 so that we can get back to the negotiations.
07:21 The free trade agreement has huge potential for both of us in terms of growth and in terms of jobs.
07:29 I welcome the conduct this year of the scoping exercises between the European Commission and the Philippines
07:36 towards negotiations for a Philippines-EU free trade agreement.
07:44 The two leaders also signed an agreement on promoting a greener economy in the Philippines.
07:49 It comes under the EU's Team Europe initiative,
07:52 which helps partner countries' infrastructure needs in fighting climate change.
07:56 The focus in this case is on tackling plastic waste in the sea.
08:05 Firefighters have been able to calm the flames of various wildfires
08:09 that broke out on the Greek peninsula of Peloponnese on Saturday.
08:16 The fires that started in four villages in the region of Ilia,
08:20 as well as in the municipality of Ancient Olympia,
08:23 have been contained, according to the Greek Fire Brigade.
08:28 On the island of Rhodes, the devastation caused by the flames is all too clear from the air.
08:34 30,000 people had to be evacuated in recent days.
08:38 Authorities now say it is safe to return, although the risk of further fires remains high due to weeks of drought.
08:47 Meanwhile, violent thunderstorms accompanied by strong gusts of wind
08:51 hit several areas in the Alto Adige region in north-east Italy,
08:56 causing widespread damage but no injuries or deaths.
09:01 The Fire Brigade carried out rescues as overflowing mountain turrents
09:05 wiped away wooden bridges, destroyed roads and triggered mudslides.
09:15 Pilgrims are beginning to arrive in Lisbon ahead of the Roman Catholic Church's World Youth Day.
09:22 Pope Francis will be in Portugal to attend one of the main events
09:25 that brings him into close contact with youngsters from around the world.
09:32 This year it will take place from the 1st to the 6th of August.
09:35 One million churchgoers are expected.
09:38 The week revolves around a series of cultural, spiritual and festive events,
09:43 from concerts and debates to prayer sessions.
09:50 Will we see Russian and Belarusian athletes in neutral uniforms at the Paris Olympics?
09:55 The International Olympic Committee has still not made a decision on this issue,
09:59 and in the meantime qualifications for many Olympic disciplines are already in full swing.
10:04 So what awaits the athletes?
10:07 Since 1992 the age of boycotts has been over,
10:11 but now it's a new situation with the Russian invasion in Ukraine
10:15 and the IOC tries to find middle ground by permitting athletes from Russia and Belarus as neutral athletes.
10:23 But since there's so much resistance by many federations and national Olympic committees,
10:27 I think we will just see a very limited presence of athletes from those two countries.
10:32 In March, the IOC recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes
10:36 who did not publicly support the war in Ukraine be allowed exclusively in a neutral status.
10:41 But many Olympic sporting bodies have not yet developed criteria
10:44 for the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in their competitions.
10:49 And the IOC made it clear that nobody who was in the army,
10:53 who publicly supported the war would be permitted at the Olympics.
10:58 So this sets the bar already quite high.
11:01 This week, a year before the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris,
11:05 the IOC carried out the traditional distribution of invitations to the Games' national Olympic committees.
11:11 203 countries are invited, except for Russia and Belarus.
11:15 With the Ukraine war ongoing, the IOC will most likely make a decision as late as spring 2024.
11:22 It's a very critical decision and situation, and it's not the only conflict in the world.
11:27 And we should also not forget that many Russian and Belarusian athletes are not in favor with the war.
11:35 So it's very difficult to answer the question where to draw the line.
11:39 So the IOC tries here to find a compromise that suits everybody.
