00:00:00 And go to first Chronicles chapter 19.
00:00:24 It's a fairly familiar passage of scripture, but it has been on my heart and I want to
00:00:29 go back into it today.
00:00:31 And I'm going to skip around a little bit because I really, I want you to have the whole
00:00:37 story.
00:00:38 And I don't know if I can trust you to go home and read it.
00:00:41 I know I can trust our FISM people to go home and read it.
00:00:45 Amen.
00:00:46 Amen.
00:00:47 Y'all signed up for FISM.
00:00:48 If you haven't, you ought to, because it will change your life.
00:00:51 And so I want you to, I want you to just take the story that I'm going to talk about today
00:00:56 and I want you to commit to going home and reading it through.
00:01:00 Cause I'm going to skip around and I'm going to begin in the, I'm going to begin in the
00:01:08 first verse.
00:01:09 If you haven't say amen.
00:01:12 And Satan stood up against Israel and he provoked David to number Israel.
00:01:20 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, go number Israel from Beersheba
00:01:28 even to Dan and bring the number of them to me that I may know it, that I may know it.
00:01:39 He's curious about all the men that he has fighting in his, on his team.
00:01:47 And go on to verse seven and, and God wasn't happy about that.
00:01:50 So God was displeased with this thing.
00:01:54 Therefore he smote Israel.
00:01:56 So Satan stood up against them.
00:01:59 They provoked their leader.
00:02:02 Now God is mad about it.
00:02:05 And God has smote Israel.
00:02:09 And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly.
00:02:14 See this is what I always love about David.
00:02:16 He knows how to quickly repent.
00:02:19 If you don't know how to repent real quick, you need to start practicing that.
00:02:23 I know you probably don't do anything to repent over, but every now and then, whenever we
00:02:27 mess up, it's a good time to just quickly say, Lord, I'm sorry.
00:02:33 I should have never done that.
00:02:35 And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly because I have done this thing, but now I
00:02:39 beseech thee do away the iniquity of thy servant for I have done very foolishly.
00:02:47 And the Lord spake unto God, David's seer or David's pastor saying to him, go and tell
00:02:55 David saying, thus sayeth the Lord that I offer thee three things, choose thee one of
00:03:04 them and I, and I may do it unto thee.
00:03:11 So on down there in verse 12, he said, you can have, you can have three years of famine.
00:03:16 This is your punishment, David, for messing up and doing foolishly.
00:03:19 You can have three years of famine or you can have three months to be destroyed before
00:03:25 thy foes while that the sword of thine enemies overtake thee or else three days with the
00:03:31 sword of the Lord, even the pestilence of the land.
00:03:35 This is, he's pretty ticked off right here.
00:03:37 Okay.
00:03:38 He's, he's just letting David have it.
00:03:41 And David then turns and says in verse 13 to, to God, he said, man, I'm in a great straight.
00:03:48 He said, let me fall.
00:03:49 If I got to pick between all of that, let me fall in the hands of the Lord.
00:03:54 You know what?
00:03:55 I'm going to do the very same thing because at least we know that the Lord is merciful.
00:04:03 You don't know about all these other options here.
00:04:06 David said, let me fall into the hands of the Lord for very great are his mercies, but
00:04:13 let me not fall into the hand of man.
00:04:17 Cause you know what?
00:04:18 That's not where you want to fall when you've messed up.
00:04:21 So the Lord sent pestilence upon Israel and there fell of Israel 70,000 men.
00:04:30 My God, I'm going to go on down to verse 17.
00:04:34 And David said unto God, after he's seen so many men falling, David said unto God, God,
00:04:42 is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered?
00:04:46 Even I, it is that have sinned and done evil indeed.
00:04:51 But as for these sheep, what have they done?
00:04:56 Let thine hand, I pray.
00:04:58 See, I love this right here because David has now started leading us in intercession.
00:05:06 Do y'all see that he messed up, but then he starts praying for the people.
00:05:12 He said, he said, I pray Lord, I pray the old Lord, my God, let, let your hand, let
00:05:20 it be on me and my father's house, but not on the people that they should be played.
00:05:26 And the angel of the Lord commanded that to say to David, that David should go up and
00:05:31 set up an altar unto the Lord in the threshing floor of Orn and the Jebusite.
00:05:36 And David went up at the saying of God, which he spoke in the name of the Lord.
00:05:43 I'm going to read a little bit more of that to you later, but I want to scoot down here
00:05:47 to verse 20, 26.
00:05:54 God told him to go to the threshing floor and he went, he purchased it.
00:06:00 The Bible said, and David built there an altar.
00:06:04 Because when you mess up, that's one of the first things you need to build is an altar.
00:06:12 So David built an altar unto the Lord.
00:06:17 And at that altar, he offered burnt offerings.
00:06:21 He offered peace offerings and there he called on the name of the Lord.
00:06:28 And he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offerings.
00:06:39 Turn to your neighbor on the right and say, neighbor, I'm about to worship and the fire
00:06:46 is about to fall.
00:06:47 Turn to your other neighbor, say neighbor, I am about to worship and the fire is about
00:06:57 to fall.
00:06:58 Spirit of God, I love you and I thank you.
00:07:02 I thank you for your mercies that I knew every morning.
00:07:06 Thank you for your faithfulness.
00:07:07 Thank you for your word that brings life to us.
00:07:12 I asked today that you would just leap off the pages like you want to leave.
00:07:17 Say what you want to say.
00:07:18 We need you desperately in this room today.
00:07:22 Somebody needs you at home.
00:07:23 Lord, we want to hear your voice.
00:07:24 So talk to us.
00:07:25 And we'll always give you the glory.
00:07:27 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of your mouth.
00:07:35 We are waiting.
00:07:36 We are reaching.
00:07:37 We are anticipating.
00:07:38 We are expecting, oh God, direction from heaven.
00:07:39 We are about to worship and the fire is about to fall.
00:07:49 We ask all of this now in the name of Jesus.
00:07:54 I holler amen.
00:07:55 On your way down, tell somebody I am about to worship and the fire is about to fall.
00:08:09 I have read that text so many times in my lifetime.
00:08:14 And it's amazing how much that I can glean out of it at different times as you, but that's
00:08:23 the word of the Lord.
00:08:25 That's the, that's the, uh, when the word comes alive, that's why you could read it
00:08:29 today and then read it tomorrow.
00:08:31 And even though it met what you needed yesterday, it'll re it'll also meet what you need today
00:08:37 and tomorrow.
00:08:38 And one of the things out of this, this text today, one of the great lessons out of this
00:08:43 text is that even great leaders have great failures.
00:08:50 I said, even great leaders have great failures.
00:08:54 However, in the time of failure, uh, if, if those failures are handled correctly, uh,
00:09:03 it presents us opportunities for some significant leadership lessons.
00:09:09 And so there are many lessons that you, if you go and delve into this text that you could
00:09:14 learn just by, uh, watching David, who was a great leader, take a great fall and then
00:09:21 cry out to a great God.
00:09:23 And we watched God began to restore.
00:09:26 One of the lessons that I want you to observe in this text is that, uh, sometimes major
00:09:33 mistakes are made on the heels of major victories, because once you have conquered the enemy
00:09:40 in an area, once you have had brought him down, put them under your feet, uh, there's
00:09:45 something in you that thinks you can just pause for a minute and take a breath.
00:09:51 But it is in those moments, you just watch your life.
00:09:55 Almost every major, uh, a mistake that we make comes because we have become at ease
00:10:04 in Zion or we become at ease in the kingdom of God.
00:10:08 Uh, David's pride, uh, he, he was, uh, he was so proud of the victory that his army
00:10:17 had performed and how that they had defeated the Philistines.
00:10:21 And because of that, now he is blindsided, uh, with, with this judgment and it has cost
00:10:29 him a very high price.
00:10:30 He is came, he came back, they had defeated the Philistines and he is like, now I know
00:10:36 we are bad, we are bad.
00:10:38 I want to know how many there are of us.
00:10:41 Now, first of all, he should have never done that.
00:10:45 He should have always paused and said, Lord, whatever victory I've won, I give you the
00:10:49 glory for it.
00:10:50 I give you the credit for it.
00:10:52 Uh, but that doesn't make him not God's man anymore because David was God's man.
00:10:57 David was God's leader.
00:10:59 David knew the voice of God and he knew, he knew the God behind the voice.
00:11:05 But when his army, uh, won that victory over their enemy, he let his guard down.
00:11:12 And when he let his guard down, he misplaced his confidence for a brief moment.
00:11:17 Uh, and he put his confidence rather than praising the God, uh, whose right hand and
00:11:23 whose Holy arm had gotten him the victory.
00:11:26 Instead he placed his pride in the strength of his military power.
00:11:31 Now there is a very thin line.
00:11:34 Somebody say a thin line.
00:11:37 There is a thin line between confidently relying on God's power and then becoming proud because
00:11:46 you have been used by God for a great purpose.
00:11:50 There is a thin line right there.
00:11:52 Amen.
00:11:53 So in this particular situation, David made the mistake of crossing the line.
00:11:59 And when the enemy came and tempted him to start taking that census and to number how
00:12:06 large or how big that his military had grown, David fell for the temptation and he made
00:12:14 a decision that devastated the life of 70,000 men.
00:12:21 God had tried.
00:12:23 Here's where the problem comes in because God, all of David's life, if you think back
00:12:28 over David's childhood, if you think back over everything that he went through in life,
00:12:32 you will discover that that all of his life, God tried to stop David from putting his confidence
00:12:41 in people.
00:12:42 He, he tried to stop David from counting on those that were around him.
00:12:48 He let his own father leave him out in the field when they had come to the house.
00:12:54 When they came to the house to anoint the next King, they, he left his own son out in
00:12:59 the field.
00:13:00 His father left him out there, gave all of his brothers two chances before he ever gave
00:13:05 David his first chance.
00:13:07 And he might not have given David his chance had the prophet of God not said, do you have
00:13:12 any more sons around here?
00:13:14 He let his own father forgive him.
00:13:17 He let his brothers hate him.
00:13:19 He let David be rejected.
00:13:21 He let David be ignored.
00:13:23 He let David be overlooked.
00:13:25 He let David be under appreciated.
00:13:27 He let David be undervalued his entire life.
00:13:31 And he did that to David.
00:13:33 Sometimes we want to blame the enemy, but sometimes because God knows your future, he
00:13:38 knows how to build a, he knows how to build a shelter around you because he knows how
00:13:45 easily you might fall into that or fall into this.
00:13:49 And so God, he would not let David fall into those traps because he had a plan for David's
00:13:55 life.
00:13:56 And so he would not let David become dependent upon people.
00:14:01 All David ever had to depend on was God.
00:14:07 That's all that David ever had.
00:14:10 And now God, he preserves him.
00:14:13 God blesses him.
00:14:15 God raises him up in spite of the people that didn't want him to be raised up.
00:14:20 And he brings a, he works with David until he brings a leader out of him.
00:14:25 And he gave him a following that was made up of great people, of people that believed
00:14:30 in him.
00:14:31 A leader cannot ask for anything better than that.
00:14:36 Those that are following them, believe in them.
00:14:40 And that is what they did.
00:14:42 They believed in David.
00:14:44 They loved David and they adored him.
00:14:48 I mean, from the very first time that they saw this kid, they loved him.
00:14:57 Moses, they respected.
00:15:00 Abraham, they admired.
00:15:03 God, they feared.
00:15:06 But David, they loved.
00:15:09 They loved David.
00:15:10 God, he did all of this for him.
00:15:14 And now all of a sudden he's got this somewhat measure of success.
00:15:20 And David is sitting back with his feet up and he falls into some kind of stupid stage
00:15:29 in his life.
00:15:30 And he starts counting the people.
00:15:35 And when David began to count on people immediately, that sent God a sign that David was misplacing
00:15:46 his confidence.
00:15:47 And now the God that had brought David through his entire life, brought him through rejection,
00:15:56 brought him through isolation, brought him through alienation, brought him through a
00:16:01 distress and put him in a place of leadership without the help of anybody.
00:16:09 That God is mad.
00:16:12 Now we don't want to talk about that side of God.
00:16:15 We want to tell me about the love of God, how rich, how pure, how much he loves us.
00:16:20 Well, we can talk about that, but you also have to understand that God is a jealous God.
00:16:26 I said, God is a jealous God.
00:16:29 And so now God has had it.
00:16:32 He is mad.
00:16:34 And one of the worst mistakes that you can make in your lifetime is to get where you're
00:16:40 going and then start counting on the people that God brought you there without.
00:16:50 He brought you there without them.
00:16:52 The worst thing you can do now is get there and start counting on them.
00:16:57 Look at somebody, tell them, don't do it.
00:16:59 Don't do it.
00:17:00 Tell him, don't get it twisted.
00:17:03 Don't, don't get confused because it was nobody that, but Jesus that has done what he has
00:17:08 done in your life.
00:17:12 David never had anybody on his side, but God.
00:17:17 So what in the world would make this man think that now he needs more?
00:17:23 What would make him think that in his weaknesses?
00:17:27 He depended on the Lord, but now he's got a little strength and he has started depending
00:17:33 on numbers.
00:17:35 He's depending on numbers.
00:17:37 And whenever, whenever, let's say whenever and whatever, uh, when we get to a point in
00:17:44 our life that we lean on something other than God, God will work every time to break down
00:17:52 the very thing that you are leaning on.
00:17:55 Does anybody know what I'm talking about?
00:17:58 The minute you put your weight on it, God will say, Oh, let me, let me cut the legs
00:18:02 out from underneath this thing.
00:18:05 Sometimes you'll be really getting it all together, leaning on something.
00:18:08 And here comes God from behind you and your legs are cut out from underneath you before
00:18:12 you can even give it a second thought.
00:18:15 He will cause it to break because anytime that we lean on the flesh, the flesh will
00:18:21 always disappoint us every time.
00:18:25 And because one man has counted on flesh, tens of thousands of men are now dead because
00:18:34 sin doesn't stop with the center.
00:18:37 It's effects are far, far reaching.
00:18:44 Tens of thousands of men are dead.
00:18:46 The angel of the Lord has raised his sword in judgment all because David had a lapse
00:18:55 of judgment because when you are a real leader chosen by God, and when you are a daughter
00:19:03 of God, when you are a son of God, you cannot just make choices and think that you can get
00:19:11 by with them.
00:19:12 You cannot just do whatever you want, whenever you want, anytime that you want to do it.
00:19:20 And just think because you have a title that you are the leader, that God will not come
00:19:26 after you because the Bible clearly tells us that when you are a real child of God,
00:19:34 he will chase you.
00:19:38 That means he will instruct you.
00:19:40 He will educate you.
00:19:42 He will discipline you.
00:19:44 He'll bring discipline to you.
00:19:46 Why?
00:19:47 Because he loves you.
00:19:48 So God will change us like we do our children.
00:19:52 We're crossing the street and they're about, they'll take off running and we run and grab
00:19:57 them and we pull them back and we give them a good talking to.
00:20:01 Why do we do that?
00:20:02 Because we love them and we want to move them out of harm's way.
00:20:07 The chastisement of the Lord, it is what legitimizes your place in the family of God.
00:20:14 And if God cannot chastise you, guess what?
00:20:18 You are not his son.
00:20:20 You are not his daughter.
00:20:22 You are not his child.
00:20:24 The Bible says you are a bastard, but you're not a son.
00:20:31 David was his son, however.
00:20:35 And the way that we know that is that when he failed and he failed miserably, here's
00:20:41 how we know he's a son though, because he didn't run away from God, but he ran straight
00:20:48 to God.
00:20:50 God help us when we fail not to have so much pride that we run away and we try to justify
00:20:57 everything that we did.
00:20:59 It doesn't work like that.
00:21:01 He, David said, I'm not running from you.
00:21:04 I'm going to run to you.
00:21:06 He didn't try to hide his failure from God.
00:21:10 He didn't.
00:21:11 And this is what I really love about him.
00:21:12 He did not try to project the blame on other people either.
00:21:18 David said, no, I own this.
00:21:20 I did this and I own it.
00:21:22 How easy is it for us to start saying, well, if they would have done this and if they,
00:21:27 I didn't say it like that.
00:21:29 And if we try all of these ways to, to, to take the blame and cast it on other people.
00:21:36 But David said, nope, not this time.
00:21:38 He said, I am owning this.
00:21:39 And so what did he do?
00:21:41 He admitted his failure.
00:21:42 He repented and I, this is what I respect about him.
00:21:46 He immediately went back to trying to restore his relationship with God.
00:21:52 I got a lot of respect for David for a few reasons, but that one in particular, one,
00:21:58 that, that blesses me because David knew that he knew that there was a breach between him
00:22:06 and God and David wanted to make that thing right.
00:22:11 See that the fact that he knew there was a breach blesses me because some people can
00:22:17 be on the outs with God and they still have no idea that they're even out with him because
00:22:23 God is not their daily bread.
00:22:26 God is not there with him in the more.
00:22:27 He doesn't, they don't talk to him.
00:22:29 They don't worship him.
00:22:30 He's not part of their daily life.
00:22:33 And so you can be out of fellowship with God and not even know it.
00:22:37 David said, wait a minute, something is very wrong here.
00:22:40 I cannot be out of fellowship with God.
00:22:43 Saul could do that and it was okay, but I cannot do that.
00:22:48 And he said, as a matter of fact, I want things to be right.
00:22:53 Somebody holler, right?
00:22:55 He didn't want things to just get better.
00:22:57 He wanted things to get right.
00:22:59 We have got to be that kind of a person that says, God, I'm not just asking that it would
00:23:05 get better between us, but I want things to be exactly like they are supposed to be between
00:23:12 me and you.
00:23:14 And if you have ever really walked with God, talked with God, been friends with God, if
00:23:21 you have ever tasted and seen that the Lord is good, you cannot be content being separated
00:23:31 from him.
00:23:32 Oh, if for some crazy reason you wander away from him, you have a memory that will drive
00:23:40 you insane and it'll have you getting up seeking for him.
00:23:46 Lord, I don't know.
00:23:47 I don't, I don't feel what I'm used to feeling.
00:23:50 Lord, I don't, I'm having problems here.
00:23:53 I can't see your hand moving in my life.
00:23:55 And I remember the day God that all I had to do was think Jesus and you were right there
00:24:01 to help me.
00:24:02 His memory, your memory will drive you crazy.
00:24:05 The minute you'll try to run away from God, your memory will say, no, I got to find him.
00:24:12 I got to find the one I love.
00:24:15 The prodigal son did that.
00:24:18 He left home, but the Bible said that his memory was so strong that it pulled him out
00:24:25 of the pig's pen and it pulled him out of the pit of pride that he found his self in
00:24:31 because a good memory will make you search after God.
00:24:35 It'll make you worship.
00:24:37 It'll make you praise.
00:24:38 It'll make you cry.
00:24:40 And when I think of the goodness of Jesus and all, when I remember all that he's done
00:24:47 for me, my soul, what my soul begins to worship.
00:24:53 And I thank God for saving.
00:24:56 When I remember where I was, when he found me, I have to worship.
00:25:03 When I remember what my life was like, I have to worship.
00:25:08 When I remember how he lifted me, how his love lifted me, when I remember how he delivered
00:25:16 me and he touched me and he salvaged my life, I have got to worship because worship gets
00:25:24 me back home.
00:25:27 Worship gets me back in his presence.
00:25:29 Worship gets me back to him.
00:25:32 Worship causes me to find myself in his warm embrace.
00:25:37 So whenever I have misplaced my confidence or when I counted on people and I really should
00:25:44 have counted on God, worship helps me to make things right.
00:25:54 When I've compromised my relationship with him, worship helps me to make things right.
00:26:01 When I failed him, when I've disappointed him, when I've turned a deaf ear to his voice,
00:26:07 when I've turned a deaf ear to his warnings, then worship is what helps make me right.
00:26:16 Let me tell you for me that it is not an option that I be right.
00:26:20 I have got to be right because I can't live separated from him.
00:26:25 I can't live without him.
00:26:28 I can't move without him.
00:26:30 There's just no me without him.
00:26:32 You would not like me without him.
00:26:36 I got to have him because in him I live and I have my being.
00:26:46 Tell somebody I got to have him.
00:26:49 You're nice and everything but I got to have him.
00:26:54 David had lost a level of connection that he had with God and he couldn't live like
00:27:02 that.
00:27:03 He was out of fellowship but he wanted back in.
00:27:07 Have you ever been out and wanted in?
00:27:12 When you're out and you want back in, you got to be careful who you talk to.
00:27:19 You got to be careful who you allow to advise you.
00:27:24 You got to be careful who you allow to counsel you when you're out if you really want back
00:27:29 in because some people will tell you, "You're okay.
00:27:34 It's all right."
00:27:36 The truth is, no, it's not all right.
00:27:39 It's all wrong and no, you are not okay.
00:27:42 Some people will tell you, "Don't worry about it," when you really do need to worry about
00:27:46 it.
00:27:47 They'll try to help you, make you feel better but look at somebody and say, "Please don't
00:27:53 help me.
00:27:54 Don't help me.
00:27:55 Don't help me.
00:27:56 I got to have God.
00:27:57 I can't listen to you.
00:27:58 I've got to listen to him."
00:28:04 The Bible says that David clothed himself in sackcloth and ashes and he fell on his
00:28:11 face because when you mess up, that's the best thing you can do.
00:28:15 I don't care what your title is.
00:28:17 I don't care if you are the king.
00:28:19 I don't care if all the power is in your hand.
00:28:22 When you mess up, fall on your face before God.
00:28:28 David fell on his face and David was saying, he said that God, as the death toll began
00:28:35 to climb, David, there were 5,000 men that have died.
00:28:40 There are 7,000.
00:28:42 There are 15,000.
00:28:43 David, there's 20,000.
00:28:45 As the death toll begins to climb, David cries out to God and he said, "Was it not I who
00:28:54 commanded the people to be numbered?
00:28:57 I am the one who sinned.
00:29:00 I am the one who has done evil.
00:29:03 But these sheep here, what have they done?
00:29:08 Let your hand, I pray, be upon and be against me, O God.
00:29:14 Be against my father's house, but don't let your hand be against the people."
00:29:22 David loved the people.
00:29:25 God, I love that he's a leader.
00:29:29 That's another lesson in his life.
00:29:31 He's a leader that really loves people.
00:29:34 You know, people that are, it's not always the ones that are, "Oh, how are you?
00:29:40 I love you, sweetheart.
00:29:41 I'm so glad to see you today."
00:29:42 That don't always mean that they love you.
00:29:49 So when you find somebody that really loves you, they may not flatter you, but they care
00:29:55 about you enough to call your name out before God.
00:30:03 That's the kind of friend that you need in your life.
00:30:07 David loved the people for real.
00:30:09 He wasn't phony about it.
00:30:12 He said, "God, look, if you're going to get mad at anybody, get mad at me.
00:30:17 I'm the one that did it.
00:30:20 They didn't do it.
00:30:21 I did it."
00:30:22 Oh, and that's another reason that I love David, because he gave us a leader's lesson
00:30:28 on intercession.
00:30:29 I said, he gave us a leader's lesson on, and he didn't just want things to be right between
00:30:35 him and God.
00:30:36 He wanted now to stand up for the people, and he interceded to God on behalf of the
00:30:42 people.
00:30:43 He not only went to work on making things better between him and God, he went to work
00:30:49 on doing whatever he could do to minimize the consequences of his failure in the lives
00:30:56 of other people.
00:30:58 Lord, help us.
00:30:59 Do you hear what I just said?
00:31:02 Everybody is affected by sin's reach.
00:31:06 I know he said, "Lord, against thee only have I sinned," but the truth of the matter is
00:31:12 there are 70,000 men who are dead because of David's sin.
00:31:18 David said, "I can't let you kill anymore.
00:31:21 I got to stop and intercede and ask you, God, please stop this plague."
00:31:28 Somebody holler, "Stop it!"
00:31:31 He said, "God, I need you to stop it."
00:31:35 And when he did, the angel with a drawn sword, drawn, it was already on, is what I'm trying
00:31:46 to tell you.
00:31:47 The angel with the drawn sword that was standing over Jerusalem between heaven and earth, now
00:31:54 his sword is suspended.
00:31:57 When I think of what could have ... See, some people can only praise God for what has happened,
00:32:13 but when I think of what could have happened, what almost happened, what should have happened,
00:32:23 and what would have happened, when I look back and I see how close that we came to near
00:32:32 destruction, it'll make you stop complaining.
00:32:37 It'll make you stop crying.
00:32:40 It'll make you lift up your hands and start worshiping because God, who is rich in mercy,
00:32:48 held back death until you could get your life together.
00:32:55 Look at your neighbor and tell them, "He gave me grace to get it together."
00:33:02 You better look at somebody and tell them, "He gave me grace.
00:33:11 He gave me grace so I could get my heart right, so I kept my family, preserved my marriage,
00:33:20 watched over my children, watched over my mind, gave me good sense enough to know I
00:33:28 need to fall on my face and repent."
00:33:32 Every person that knows God gave you the grace so you could get it together or to open your
00:33:39 mouth and put a praise at this moment at 1009.
00:33:46 "He gave me grace to get it together."
00:33:55 Woo!
00:34:00 Oh, now thank you for grace.
00:34:03 Thank you for your grace.
00:34:06 You held back death.
00:34:11 Death was ready to dive in and destroy Israel, but God held it back.
00:34:22 The Bible says, let's go, let's read this, let's read this in 1 Chronicles 21, verse
00:34:32 18, let's read this together and let you pull it up.
00:34:37 Let's read it together.
00:34:38 1 Chronicles 21 and let's begin at the 18th, the 18th verse.
00:34:47 Do you have it on the screen?
00:34:48 Okay.
00:34:49 I want to read it out of my Bible.
00:34:52 Verse 21, I mean chapter 21, verse 18.
00:34:55 "Then the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up,
00:35:03 set up an altar unto the Lord."
00:35:06 Where?
00:35:07 "In the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
00:35:10 And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the Lord.
00:35:17 And Ornan turned back and he saw the angel and his four sons with him.
00:35:23 They hid themselves.
00:35:24 But now Ornan was threshing wheat.
00:35:27 And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David and went down, I'm sorry, and he
00:35:34 went out of the threshing floor and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
00:35:40 Then David said to Ornan, grant me this place of the threshing floor that I may build an
00:35:47 altar therein unto the Lord.
00:35:49 Thou shalt grant it to me for what?
00:35:55 He said, I am not even asking you to put it on sale.
00:36:00 This ain't, I'm not here to bargain with you.
00:36:03 He said, I want to pay the full price.
00:36:06 Why David?
00:36:07 So that the plague may be stayed from the people.
00:36:11 And Ornan said unto David, take it to thee and let my Lord, the King do what, do that
00:36:19 which is good in his eyes.
00:36:22 Lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings and the threshing instruments for wood and
00:36:29 the wheat for the meat offering.
00:36:32 I give it all.
00:36:34 And King David said to Ornan, Nay, but I will verily buy it for the full price for
00:36:42 I will not take that which is thine and for the Lord, nor I will not offer burnt offerings
00:36:50 without cost.
00:36:55 David said, I cannot take what is yours and give it to God.
00:37:02 That's crazy.
00:37:03 It's yours.
00:37:04 This is no, he said, I can't do that.
00:37:09 Let me stop right here and say, do you know what the threshing floor is?
00:37:13 In case you don't know that the threshing floor is the place of sifting.
00:37:20 It is the place of separation.
00:37:22 It is the place where the wheat and the tear and the chaff are all separated.
00:37:30 All of the wheat was not usable.
00:37:33 You understand that it's like a stock of corn.
00:37:37 The corn is the usable part, but the stock is not.
00:37:41 So you have to separate it from the stock.
00:37:44 So that is what happened at the threshing floor.
00:37:48 There was a separation that took place.
00:37:51 The usable was separated from the unusable.
00:37:56 And the way that would happen is through a process of beating.
00:38:02 It's through a process of crushing.
00:38:05 It's through a process of sifting.
00:38:08 It's through a process of pounding.
00:38:11 So why would God want David to go to the threshing floor?
00:38:18 Because what the wheat goes through at the threshing floor is exactly what David was
00:38:26 going through in his life.
00:38:29 God was beating things off of him.
00:38:32 He was crushing things in him.
00:38:35 He was sifting things in David.
00:38:37 He was pounding on David's life.
00:38:41 And David said, just like they beat the chaff away from the wheat, I know God that that
00:38:50 is what you are doing in me.
00:38:53 You are beating my flesh.
00:38:55 You are beating my attitude.
00:38:57 You are beating down my carnality.
00:39:00 You are beating my nature.
00:39:02 You are beating the shadiness out of me.
00:39:06 You are beating the manipulator out of me.
00:39:09 You are beating the Jacob out of me.
00:39:11 You're beating everything deceptive out of me.
00:39:15 You're beating the hypocrite out of me.
00:39:18 Anything that would make me mislead anybody, I feel you shaking that out of me.
00:39:25 There's a hill catcher in me, but you're sifting it out.
00:39:30 There's a supplanter in me, but you're sifting it out and you're doing it because there is
00:39:37 fruit somewhere down inside of me.
00:39:41 There is productivity inside of me.
00:39:44 There is effectiveness inside of me.
00:39:47 There is potential that is inside of me.
00:39:51 There's creativity and capacity that is inside of me that I have not even tapped into yet.
00:40:00 And that's why you're beating me like you're beating me.
00:40:03 That's why you're taking me through what you're taking me through.
00:40:06 That's why I can't get away with nothing and everybody else can get away with everything.
00:40:15 I love somebody, I can't do it because I got too much fruit inside of me.
00:40:22 I got too much.
00:40:23 There's too much potential.
00:40:24 There's a plan of God underneath my old man.
00:40:25 There's a plan of God underneath my old nature.
00:40:26 So God will stop me, catch me, delay me, trip me every time because of my own nature.
00:40:27 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:28 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:29 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:30 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:31 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:32 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:33 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:34 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:35 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:36 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:37 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:40:58 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:41:20 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:41:43 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:08 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:36 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:38 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:39 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:40 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:41 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:42 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:43 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:44 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:45 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:46 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:47 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:48 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:49 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:50 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:51 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:52 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:42:53 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:18 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:25 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:26 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:27 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:28 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:29 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:30 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:31 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:32 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:33 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:34 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:35 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:36 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:37 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:38 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:39 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:43:40 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:44:03 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:44:28 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:44:56 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:44:59 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:00 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:01 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:02 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:03 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:04 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:05 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:06 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:07 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:08 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:09 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:10 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:11 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:12 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:13 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:14 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:38 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:45 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:46 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:47 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:48 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:49 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:50 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:51 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:52 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:53 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:54 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:55 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:56 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:57 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:58 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:45:59 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:00 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:28 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:31 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:32 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:33 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:34 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:35 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:36 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:37 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:38 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:39 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:40 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:41 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:42 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:43 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:44 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:45 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:46:46 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:47:10 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:47:31 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:47:59 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:00 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:01 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:02 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:03 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:04 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:05 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:06 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:07 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:08 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:09 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:10 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:11 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:12 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:13 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:14 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:15 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:48:39 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:05 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:34 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:35 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:36 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:37 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:38 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:39 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:40 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:41 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:42 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:43 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:44 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:45 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:46 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:47 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:48 I'm not going to be able to do it.
00:49:49 I'm not going to be able to do it.

01:01:47 I'm not going to be able to do it.
01:01:48 I'm not going to be able to do it.
01:02:13 Some of you today are at the threshing floor.
01:02:18 It's making you pray.
01:02:22 It's making you get things right.
01:02:25 It's making you deal with your issues.
01:02:28 You're not worried about everybody else's issues.
01:02:30 Why don't you do what David did and say, "God, this ain't about anybody but me."
01:02:39 The threshing floor will make you walk the halls of your house.
01:02:46 It'll cause a whole 'nother level of trust in God because it's where God removes the
01:02:55 things from your life that are stopping you from being fruitful.
01:03:01 And while it may be painful, I do want to encourage you today by telling you that producing
01:03:10 fruit is really not a problem once you have submitted to the threshing floor.
01:03:21 I am the vine.
01:03:24 You are the branches.
01:03:26 He that abideth in me and I in him, the same shall bring forth much fruit.
01:03:38 You don't walk through an apple orchard and hearing the trees.
01:03:44 You don't hear the trees groaning like, "Oh, I need to produce these apples.
01:03:52 I have to produce these apples."
01:03:57 They just stay planted.
01:04:02 They soak up the nutrients.
01:04:05 Look at somebody say, "You better soak it up."
01:04:07 Every time we gather together, soak it up.
01:04:08 Soak it up.
01:04:09 Soak up everything that would bring life to you.
01:04:10 And you will, if you abide, abide, abide, abide, tell somebody, "Stay there, stay there,
01:04:30 stay there, stay there."
01:04:31 Abide.
01:04:32 I don't want you to just spend the weekend.
01:04:35 Abide.
01:04:36 Abide.
01:04:37 Abide.
01:04:38 Abide.
01:04:39 Abide.
01:04:40 Stop running here, there, and everywhere and expect to be fruitful because it does not
01:04:47 work that way.
01:04:51 Abide.
01:04:54 David knew that the key to overcoming the crisis that he was in, number one, he had
01:05:00 to admit his mistake.
01:05:03 Number two, he had to accept the consequences of his sin.
01:05:07 The third thing that he had to do was he had to line himself back up with the purpose of
01:05:11 God.
01:05:12 The fourth thing he had to do was agree to pay the full price.
01:05:19 And the fifth thing that he had to do was he had to abide in the presence of Jehovah.
01:05:25 David said, "God, I want you more than I want friends, more than I want influence, more
01:05:31 than I want power, more than I want money, more than I want my career, more than I want
01:05:36 the accolades of people, more than my own pride.
01:05:40 I want you because I am absolutely nothing without you.
01:05:46 So I'm sorry I'm submitted.
01:05:49 I'm humble and I'm broken.
01:05:51 But here's the good thing is I know that a broken and a contrite spirit, thou, oh Lord,
01:05:57 will not despise."
01:06:01 Here's what I want you to just remember.
01:06:04 Always remember that effective sacrifices are always costly, but they also will cause
01:06:15 fire to fall in your life.
01:06:22 Effective sacrifices, that wasn't cheap.
01:06:28 Effective sacrifices are always costly, but they will also cause the fire of God to fall
01:06:38 in your life.
01:06:41 Today I want to challenge, if you'll stand with me all over the building, I want to challenge
01:06:46 somebody to do what David did.
01:06:50 Pay it.
01:06:52 Pay the full price.
01:06:55 So you can get on with your purpose.
01:06:58 David had more battles to win.
01:07:01 He had a few more enemies to fight, but he needed to get out of that moment.
01:07:05 He was stuck in that moment and it kept growing worse.
01:07:09 I don't know who I'm talking to today.
01:07:12 You might feel like you're stuck in a moment and you're ready to get out of it.
01:07:19 Whoever you are, if that's you, why don't you just come down here to the altar for just
01:07:23 a moment.
01:07:24 I need to make a move.
01:07:25 I need to make a move.
01:07:27 I've got some stuff.
01:07:28 I need to just get right with God.
01:07:30 Don't wait a minute.
01:07:31 Just come right now.
01:07:32 If you're coming, come on.
01:07:33 Here I come, Jesus.
01:07:34 Here I come to you.
01:07:35 Come on, come on.
01:07:36 Where are you?
01:07:37 Come, come, come.
01:07:38 Here I come to you.
01:07:40 Come on, come on.
01:07:42 Where are you?
01:07:44 Come, come, come.
